We have the same deck The smart space feature is a cool feature man, I've yet to use it Daibe 123: With your himd recorder, to edit it after is the only way.

Be aware, that no portable md recorder can record from its own radio. You either have md playback on or the radio on. HIMD have different bit rates and so on, so if you do want to record with himd, be prepared not to be able to play that stuff back on your regular md. Once you go to himd, there really isnt much point in owning regular md units, except for the longer battery life of 'regular md only' players. Thats the big reason I am holding back from himd. The reasons for against are as follows: Still usb 1.1 speed transfers, Lesser battery life, The current designs of himd portable recorders, is not really to my liking, although design aesthetics are subjective, and you might like them. Not being able to use the newer format with older devices. I've bought a 'regular' md deck, so to actually enjoy himd, at home, i would need a himd deck, which i cant afford right now. Pros: The amount of recording time really is staggering, you can upload the stuff you record as wav files, you can get units with removable battery's. Although i dont own a himd unit, i am positive you can still change recording levels on the fly. Oh, and if md IS going to die, you are better off with himd, as sony supposedly have to honour your warranty, so, if you did get a himd portable now, you would enjoy the new technology, without fear of sony dropping u like a poopie if something went wrong while the unit was under warranty. There really are two sides to it, people who dont use net md are very lucky that they wont miss any new technology they never had, and their units were never dependent on computers. On the other side of it, those who use HIMD for concerts etc, are lucky because they are enjoying the latest. There is the thought that 1 gig discs will stop being produced, but i doubt that by the time you need more discs, sony will be anywhere near stopping producing them. An example being the MD View discs, I thought i saw audio cubes had them at some point? and that technology was 'discontinued' ages ago. Its really up to what your needs are. I would say go for it if you have the money. The only real reasons i am holding back is that i spent 280 pounds on a top of the line md deck, and an extra two years warranty, and getting himd would just make my deck redundent, unless i forked out for another deck, a himd one, as well as a himd player.

It would be best to delete the registry entries before you try to re-install sonic stage. In case you havent used 'regedit' before, go to your start menu, click 'run', type 'regedit', hit the 'enter' key, a window opens up. At the top, where there are various options, click 'Edit', then click 'find' and try typing SonicStage, then delete whatever comes up in the window on the right. Remember that re-installing sonic stage or otherwise, might give you $h!t with transfer OMG/atrac files that you saved to your computer. Although if the program is crashing, theres not much else you can do, me thinks. Did it start crashing at any particular time? After installing any other programs etc.? You could try doing a system restore to an earlier date, if so. -Greg

are you recording with an md deck? Are you recording via analogue or optical? If are recording optically, then you can use SYNC(hronised) REC(ording), otherwise, you have to edit it yourself. If my thinking is correct, if you are recording optically, it should create a separate track of the silence, if it more than 2 seconds long, so you can simply delete the extra 'space' after. Hope this helped.

good to hear he had a happy ending.

haha, Thats if you can rip your wav files to an audio cd FIRST, otherwise, you can't record like this: playing:original cd via optical out , recorded by mds-jb980 playing: optically recorded md from original cd attemt to record: optical out of mds-jb980 sent to another optical in of another recorder, ...message: 'NO COPY' thanks SCMS (Serial copy management system). But yeah, with the jb980, you cant tell the difference between an optical connection and analogue its that good, at least i cant, and im using $200 earphones. Hopefully, those that have registered wont become 'one-time-posters'. -

he is giving his n510 as an example dude. What bit rate mp3's are you converting for your n710?? If you are transfering MP3 files that are anything less than 128kb/s in quality, to lp2 then you might get some crappy background noise. If you are using lp4, then no matter what bit rate mp3 you are using, the sound will be pretty shoddy. Are you putting the songs on the disc in lp2 or lp4? If its not the high compression making the songs sound bad, then it must be something with the actual headphone jack itself. Other than, e.q settings, headphones, lp2 or lp4 compression, or the actual headphone jack, I cant really think of what else it could be.

Well, Where to start, Layout: First up, if you havent owned any other md deck, theres no way you will be doing fade in/fade out edits, splitting tracks by 10th's of seconds, and so on, without having read the manual, that is for sure, as I found out. Design: Again, the brushed aluminium design, has captured me. It really is a looker. *edit* The remote that it comes with is black. Although i wonder what it would have been like with a grey remote im not that bothered. Features/Functions: This thing can do just about anything you can think of. Some editing may be take a while, but it can do it. Some nifty features include; 'start recording with 6 seconds of pre-recorded data': i.e If you are recording from the radio, DAB or otherwise, this feature is a no brainer. No more wishing you knew that song was coming, you can simply edit the song and remove whatever excess you have before the song started. Fade in/Fade out playback: cool for if you have recorded a concert and want to turn the disc you recorded into something closer to a real 'live' album. Splitting songs/excess recorded parts: you can split songs by tenths of a second, now THAT is cool. You choose where you want it to split it, the deck plays back a few seconds, you choose no and fix it again or yes and your all set. AMS: First time i've had this feature - excellent if you cant remember exactly which track you are looking for out of 35 tracks, turn the dial and you;re there. Not really a feature, in fact i cant see why its there, but there is the option to eject the disc using the remote . Titling: With a keyboard: Yes, despite this md deck being a net md, I use the keyboard. I think it feels better because you just type the title in, let the title scroll by once, and then edit the next track. Being used to things happening so fast on a computer makes titling using net md, seem sluggish. Then there is the option to title use the AMS dial. This works on the same principle as titling with any regular MDR jog wheel, like that of the mz-r909 mdr. And finally, if you are a real couch audio listener you can title with the remote. SMCS: This deck has SMCS, which is a real bummer if you want to record a dvd via optical or coaxial. In fact it is this decks achilles heel, big time. In the end i ripped the dvd using a copying program, and re-burned the dvd without smcs. It didnt effect the sound, as only the image quality is compressed when ripping. You also cant play an md recorded optically-from an original cd, and record that via optical out signal , to another mdr. If the cd was burnt with your own music files, you can get past SMCS. The fact that i spent 24 pounds on a high grade coaxial cable to record that dvd and then only after buying, i realised the smcs issue, is in the past i guess. This deck is brilliant for anyone with a DAP. You can turn the input analogue signal up to 12 DB higher than the source, turning you hifi system into a 1200 track (in my case) juke box, Or make any other source, loud enough for proper listening through speakers, another example being my computer. The Net md feature really is a must have if you do compilation discs using lp2. With the net md feature, you can do your 35 track, 3 album lp2 disc, easily. I use the deck's net md function as my net md, mz-n910, is starting to fail on me, and i forked out for an extra two years warranty on this puppie. I use it all the time, so im sure the extended warraty was a wise investment. And without further ado, the piccies: *added three more macro shots*

First off, I created the following review when the micro system arrived , I have simply edited with more recent thoughts. I posted the original review at another forum. This review was done before i purchased my md deck, the sony Mds-JB980/s. Sound quality: 9/10, as i am sure there is better out there, i just havent experienced it yet. i find that when using my md's (portable: mz-r909) line out, and using a mindisc that was recorded via analogue, you lose A LOT of sound volume. However, if you play a mindisc that was recorded optically, then the sound quality is excellent and the volume is no different to playing a cd. this hifi is one that sounds great at all volumes, which obviously makes you want to pump it up to the max. the speakers have "Soft dome tweeters and Glass fibre woofers". *added to original review* When playing cd's, the sound lacks the warmth i want with the DBDF feature off, although if i have the volume and bass set to the highest, on a very bassy track, the speakers do NOT cope well with the feature on, and are on bass overload. I recently acquired the an md deck. Well, what can i say, the MDS-JB980 are a match made in heaven. I can hardly discern between minidisc's recorded via optical in LP2, with source played cd's. Features: Well , I'm sure its clear to you from the Thread description, that I didnt buy this micro for its 'amount' of features, I bought it because it plays cd's, radio, and for its power output (80 watts RMS per channel), line in/out, optical out, for my mindisc recording/playback, and the s-master amp. It plays cd-r, cd-rw audio cd's. It is extremely intuitive to use, it is only radio and cd The radio does fm/mw and has 30 presets, and is meant for use n europe (not world band). During playback of cd's it can display: track time remaining, whole cd remaining, the usuals. It will also display CD-TEXT from burnt cd-r's and commercially avaiable cd's that feature cd -text. The micro system has a slot loading cd player. Since i bought it, it has worked fine, although i do suspect someone having tampered with it , as their cd was on my desk and when i load a cd, it doesnt feed as well as i remembering it when i bought it. A cool feature though. Finish and design: As for design , it is very minimalist, (not cluttered at all, very well spaced out, aesthetically pleasing)and has a front panel that drops down, with a smooth action, to display the other functions, i.e. sonys sound enhancer thing (DBDF in this case), function (cd/line in/radio), trebble, and bass settings. The finish is one of the things i feel really give this micro system a sense of class - brushed aluminium. Everything is well spaced out on the main unit itself. Not as well on the remote itself. size : well, the speakers are a good size, regular bookshelf speaker size. speaker depth: 137 mm speaker width: 212 mm speaker height: 256 mm as for the unit. wel..the unit is very compact as height and width go, but because of how compact the front is, it LOOKS long, but it isnt really that much deeper than the speakers. width: 293 mm height: 246 mm depth: 131 mm Overall Cost: Well, for 280RRP pounds (230 pounds if bought on line)you would think this thing should sound fan fricking tastic, and yes it does, frankly. Everyone I show it to just says it sounds amazing, for its size. It isnt in the league of speakers that are 3 foot tall, but for the size of the speakers, it really is brilliant. Many may say you paying for the brand, and finish. I can certainly see that having an effect on what I paid for it, but in all fairness, it doesnt dissapoint. Honestly, you tell me, although taste is subjective, which would you prefer, a bass junkies sony 'i dont know how many' cd changer, lights flashing on the display, play station linked, mini system with a plastic finish? pics: ** http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/gre...-SE1/front2.jpg ** http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/gre...-SE1/front3.jpg ** http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/gre...Hifismaller.jpg ** http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/gre...E1/speaker1.jpg ** http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/gre...E1/speaker2.jpg ** on top of mds-jb980

i cant believe i just said that, ALL md except sony md 2000 are plastic ROFL I think i meant that these look like they are made of rubber or something due to the colour scheme.

hope its ok that i added a few shots of my biancas To complement the existing pictorial, please visit my latest Sony Bianca album --> click here.
-
I dont know why, but i never really found the colour series ones that much of a turn on, mostly because the regular colour series ones are so easy to get hold of in europe Aside from the shutter, i cant see much difference to the regular colour series md;s

Those discs actually look plastic!! are they???

Thought i'd add a few piccies To complement the existing pictorial, please visit my latest Sony ES album --> click here.

Well after buying a pair of mdr-q55sl's, which hurt like hell and sounded very harsh and tinny, i went on to sony ex81's, I;ve had them for a year now, and they are still intact, although the wires are quite frayed I invested in a $200 pair of audio technica ATH-A900's about a month ago, just because i was tired of fraying wires etc, and i had just bought an MDS-JB980 md deck, and wanted something to listen to my music with, at night, that sounded as good as listening through speakers. Ive just gone and ordered a pair of audio technica ath-fc7's , about $59, for outdoor use, the blue ones, as i wanted something that sounded a bit better, im hoping, than my ex81's, i;ll review them when they arrive.
-
Anyone know/can say how these compare sound wise, to the audio technica ATH-A900's?

hmm, i will be mucho bummed if the new software cant be used with my HD5, i mean i dont really mind sonic stage 3.2, but it would be cool to at least have the OPTION to use the new software with it. -
