Called and they really couldn't provide prices. Interesting on the value perception of "new old stock"

Thanks will look into this

Hello, I enjoyed reading your article. I downloaded the two wav files and listened to each wav file with the 3 samples on each one. I was surprised they pretty much sounded the same. Could you just clarify when you listen to them you are noticing a big improvement?

I was very curious what the blogger had to say. Perhaps some new pertinent info was awaiting so I spent a few seconds using the translator. However after a few readings it becomes quiet clear - hard media formats are hard to sell let alone a minidisc format in 2013. Perhaps the media division is going all out to increase sales. The blogger starts of by mentioning a new product is kicked off for 2013 then goes on to explain this was the format commonly used circa. 1990 to mid 2000s before mp3 players took over. Finally the virtues of the format, re-recordability, smaller than CD, enclosed casing and listening environment are mentioned. How long will physical media be around? Vinyl seems to be reborn...I saw new vinyl records at HMV a few months ago???. Cassette Tapes still used around the world. You are correct a manufactuer needs to repackage minidisc and come out with a new player/recorder to accompany these shiny new blanks.

A staff member posted the new production introduction here https://shop.victor-media.co.jp/blog/know_how/3411 here is translation Hello, this is Em . This time , our Victor Advanced Media was launched ( June 2013 ) last month , I will introduce a mini disk (MD) new products . MD new products this time , Cassette shell is clear orthodox type simple . · Putting in and out is easy one side is turned to the opening in the sleeve type of case to protect the cassette shell . Index seal in write recorded content such as song title, is attached to the cassette shell is attached. Product Image of MD-80RX5, MD-80RX10 It is a mini disk new products launched in June 2013 . ☆ Introduction of new products page ( site of Victor Advanced Media Co., Ltd. ) http://victor-media.co.jp/media/audio/md-80rx/index.html Digital audio player to record music data such as MP3 format in semiconductor memory has become the mainstream of portable music players in recent years , but before that , MD, of the main portable music player through the mid- 2000s from the 1990s was one . And there is a convenience not found in digital audio player to make use of semiconductor memory to MD, MD users are woven quite a few today. By the way , convenience general MD, think of the author , - Easy to carry because it is thin small . Also space-saving storage than on the CD. And convenience to be able to record and store and organize on separate disks for each theme genre , and artists . · Can be played on MD players or portable stationary , mini disc recorded . • After recording , you can easily erase in the music unit , recording of hours of songs that can be erased again . ( . Can be recorded repeatedly ) - Recording and reproduction is performed in a state where the shutter closure is opened to have been sealed cartridge made of resin material harder (the cassette shell) , and is set to MD players to use the disk . Cassette shell disk storage , the shutter is protected without the disk is exposed to are closed when the carry handle is convenient . · It is also possible that it is possible to put the index seal write characters such as title to identify and differentiate inside the cassette shell MD, Changing applier its seal. · MD recording and playback equipment can be used alone , connection and operation of a PC is not required . Portable audio player is popular is intended to be used as storage media semiconductor memory now. It is a situation that is used as an audio player of mechanism such as smartphones like this often . Some of them to record and playback using the semiconductor memory of a detachable small , such as a micro SD card , but you can use it to transfer music data from a PC to a semiconductor memory built into the player many . These are the feature that useful as a portable small , but fill space of character has not been secured almost so small , recorded content is difficult to understand from the appearance . Or alternatively , try listening to actually Therefore, If you want to know what you have recorded , if there is such as a liquid crystal display for display on the player , you will be able to display the contents , but the computer can be connected to the PC otherwise I do not know the contents if you do not display on the monitor display . In addition , there is a CD player that can be used as a portable (CD-R, CD-RW) a CD of the recording , you are eligible for comparison , but it is slightly inconvenient because a little big in size as portable . On the other hand , can be written and the text title and it is convenient label side of the CD recording disk is a broader space . Finally , I try to compare differences in each method of recording " sound quality " . In a format audio player of semiconductor memory type and MD also encode the data on the CD of the sound source in general , to compress the playback data amount per unit time record to ( recording ) . The amount of data per second is the biggest in music playback Among these it becomes the CD. If you do so , it is looks good think most high-quality sound simply the CD , but it can not be said is unlikely . Because , at the time of ( compression of the amount of audio data ) encoding of the sound source , the sound quality will vary depending on environment to play also , depending on the performance of the equipment to be encoded and the encoding method , and sensitivity of the listener also different above all decide categorically relative merits of sound quality by recording method is difficult because it is . It is thought that the difference will become as can be seen in many listeners when compared to the playback environment more ideal for each recording method . Stay tuned for next time . the blogger summarizes quite nicely, md users are woven

http://victor-media.co.jp/media/audio/md-80rx/index.html found text from another forum john 7 Years have passed since the last MD release back in 2006. Now in 2013 Victor (Jvc japan) release this This is also the first MD from Victor since Taiyo yuden acquired the company. Would have been nice if it was a That's (taiyo yuden) labeled MD but is still made under Victor-taiyo yuden era.

With frequent use, it is not going to last long although it is built well, due to miniturization it really is more fragile. It is recommended to use a lower end model for playback only and use the rh1 sparingly.

I was thinking it also works the other way - the usb cable with the clip on would perform better than with it off for SS transfers with other electrical devices laying around such as wifi and cell phones.
-
This unit in addition to the usb output also has rca audio jacks so it is geared for someone who wants to play vinyl and listen on a stereo - it is a regular turntable and the reviews say it is well built. Does anyone have one of these? My head spun when I saw this. Sony would only make something if there was a market for it. I guess there is a market for vinyl. I have not seen any marketing for this to me it is an obscure piece - what other obsure devices does Sony make? What kind of audio to digital converters are in these types of usb turntables? Or is the conversion to digital done in the PC?

I have audio flac at 24 bits. To burn these to cd I had to convert to 16 bit wav. I chose not to use dither. Was reading about dithering and it can produce tape hiss however by not dithering I have simply created a 16 bit cd truncated. To compare to 24 bit audio, if I convert these to 24 bit wav and burn to a dvd, use dvd to play and then record to md using optical input from the dvd player what will happen? Does the MD optical input convert 24 bit to 16 bit?

I checked the version i have from here http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17552 it is v1.4 some out there are v1.3

Could be doc errata but then again it could not lets think of the chances of this: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/MZS1.pdf 3-239-099-13(1) 2002 this doc says TYPE-R http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/3239099411.pdf 3-239-099-41(1) 2003 note the later doc rev. and later copyright year. This doc says TYPE-S. From listening some S1s sound much better than 505. I can mostly tell handhelds which are type-r and which are type-s. Type-r can sound crackily on lp2. Decks on the other hand are a different matter. This wasn't a straight copy and paste when they upped the doc rev. The doc. was updated for some reason to reflect new information. Well this is why I think some S1s could be TYPE-S.
-
I recommend you buy it seems there are two versions of it out there so the latter version. A quick listening should help you decide. I have both the 505 and S1 and the S1 sounds much better. I remember in the manual that I received it stated it had Type-S. It could be documentation errata but why the great sound? The 505 drive is noisy the S1 drive is not.
-
No. Not that I can hear it change. I only see bass off, 1, 2. Found an old post about type-s on this unit possibly.
-
No treble controls. Sounds fine though without it. I remember from reading the manual it has an upgraded drive unit, if you notice when running it is the smoothest and quietest. Inexpensive is good.

You can try the following. 1.Install double A piggyback power source with fresh/rechargeables 2.install problem gumstick 3.Use the MD so that the AA drains. You may need to repeat a full battery drain cycle a few times. 4.The gumstick after a few cycles of #3 should start to charge again.

Y'all should read this before using this software RMAA http://nwavguy.blogs...lyzer-rmaa.html An interesting test is the loopback test - take line out analog or optical to your minidisc recorder and let it go through the DAC to lineout and loopback

MDietrich It would be great if you can explain how to do the analysis and the software you use. No doubt you have the skills and knowledge. A suggested analysis is to take a wav file from a cd, the same wav file can be used for SP, lp2, lp4 and do your analysis. It would be interesting to see the comparisons. lp4 is the joint stereo encoding version of lp2. lp2 sounds almost the same as SP, so lp4 really should sound great but it needs a good source to begin with to help with its strong encoding. I think today some of us appreciate lp4 more than when it was first introduced with mdlp, it's such a convenience to store 5 hr 20 min of music on a single disc. Don't use mp3 as source that seems to be the culprit for bad sounding tracks. Use only wav / pcm from highband sources. If you really need to use mp3 make sure its 256+ and convert it to wav outside of SS.

I think the ATRAC version of the Sharp is a few genarations behind the Sony even though the development time seems to indicate the direct opposite. The reason for this is I believe previously the version of ATRAC wasn't as important as the sound tuning of the whole device. So Sharp felt it could make a good sounding unit with a not so recent ATRAC DSP by tuning the overall unit. Sony however took a different approach by reducing / almost eliminating the quantization noise TYPE-R and -S. Also you mentioned LP4 isn't useful to you. But you need to explain how you did your analysis for LP4.

I'm looking towards you as the expert. Did the mdlp version change?
-
Previously the IC handling type-r and mdlp were separate. Type-S just combines them into one IC and results in lower noise. This is what you are hearing for lp2/4. This is more apparant on portables where the circuitry is cost reduced for portability. On home decks it sounds like this did not occur. Remember this costs less to manufacture so I wouldnt say having them seprate is inferior especially in a home deck with type-r only or a portable.

Im listening to lp4 (over 3 hours of chilled house from 320 mp3 to wav) on a line out md player. Sounds very good for the source as sfbp stated it depends on the source
