To transfer your recorded tracks and export them as WAV, you {i]have to use the proprietary software sony provides called Sonic Stage. The latest version can be downloaded here. A HiMD unit can store data. However, this cannot be used relating to any of the audio functions of HiMD, all audio must be moved by Sonic Stage (if you want to play on the unit...you can put audio files on there, but you won't be able to play them from the unit).

Reminds me of when I bought that neuros...what a nightmare. Small time company, that to their credit did everything they could, and I had the "CEO" on my AIM buddylist, but just failed to make an effective product that didn't keep running into one product or anouther.

The units described will do what you need. The are not illegal, and they exist. The people to which you spoke don't know what they are talking about. Any Hi-MD unit with a mic-input will suit your needs.

Thanks a lot Viv, that sounds nice...too bad I'm not in the UK. For anyone else who is interested in the subject, with a google search I found a good tutorial that uses a provided Photoshop template and avery sticker sheets. Its at: http://scottishot.rkone.org/minidisclabels.php

Welcome to MDCF! No reason to be sad! There is a (relatively) inexpensive unit that can do all you want. That would be the Sony MZ-NH700. It can record just about 94 minutes of Linear PCM audio from its mic input (or line-in/optical-in) and it can upload that to your PC. I'd suggest look on ebay since you can usually can find a lower than retail price there. Oops...sorry Chris, your replay came in while I was typing mine!

Ah, that is interesting. Thank you very much

I don't need to know how, I've already got Ishii's wonderful guide. If I also change my RH10 region code to Japan under service mode then I can display Japanese titles on my unit, correct? If I do this, will it change the way that Roman Character titles are displayed on the unit? What about on the remote (rm-mc40elk and/or rm-mc55elk)? Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide...and of course feel free to provide other pertinent info that I didn't ask about.

Minidisc.org has a variety of information regarding MD, MDLP, NetMD Hi-MD formats. Some Starting points I suggest for you. The Minidisc.org MD Beginner FAQ. By 610 you most likely mean the MZ-NF610 (NetMD/MDLP Recorder/Player) That link is to the Minidisc.org Equipment Browswer Page with information on that unit. Also has the User's Manual in PDF if you didn't get one with yours. There are also FAQs on Minidisc.org regarding MDLP, NetMD, and if you want to learn about Hi-MD they have one for that too. Happy learning. EDIT: The last thing I'd point out is that to use the NetMD functions of your NF610, you have to use Sony's Sonic Stage software. DON'T install the software on this disc. Go to the download section here (upper-right) and download the latest version (3.3).

You have to edit every track individually

If all you need is optical out, MDLP Decks can be found on eBay for under 50 bucks sometimes.

For help reguarding Sonic Stage with non-MD devices, please see the ATRAC Life Colloquium's Software Discussion Forum.

The Blank Disc Debate, What did u have, plan to get..
akijikan replied to mercury_in_flames's topic in Minidisc
I heart bianca discs. I love simple-looking disks. Usually I am very atracted to the solid colors. That's why I loved the look of the Hi-MDs. I hate tranlucent discs though. They always look cheap. -
I noticed this label on my RH10: "Warning! Use of this product may result in loss of life due to face-melting awesome-ness."

RM-MC55ELK White for $85 Shipped.

The latest version of SS is in fact available from the downloads section on this site (in the upper-right, there)

I myself have not heard of the artifacts from using an adapter while recording. There is a manual track mark button and then there is a auto track mark that you can set. You can have it place a track mark every x minutes and x can equal 1-99. Not only can you make your uploads wav, you record in linear PCM with no compression.

I'd disagree, a battery lasts longer with regular use. It deteriorates faster when it sits unused for long times (Months).
-
Lithium batteries do not suffer from memory effect, but when new, are best conditioned by fully draining and charging the battery a few times. The memory effect is something that was common with old Ni-Cad batteries. For more information regarding types of batteries and the memory effect, see here

I've done pretty much all the shopping there is for this thing and what's available seems to be: Partstore.com - 82.95 + free shipping til Dec. 31 (Silver Color) WHSLE.BIZ.STORE on eBay - $65 + $25 Shipping (White Color) I went to the above seller's online store here and even though he didn't show it as available in his store, I e-mailed him about availability. He quoted me 85 Shipped (White Color) If you don't need Japanese/Chinese/Korean support you can go for the RM-MC53EL. Exactly the same minus Asian character display. Partstore.com - 34.95 plus shipping (Silver Color, Black Available for 76.95 with free shipping til Dec. 31) WHSLE.BIZ.STORE on eBay $59.99 + $25 Shipping (Silver Color) (Like above, this isn't listed in the online store, but if you e-mail he'll probably quote you a lower price) Hope this helps.

I converted 1130 tracks (64:57:03 total time, 5.5 Gigs) to AtracPlus 256 Kbps. The operation took Aproximately 6 hours. I did use my computer at times through out the conversion. The Tracks were mixed qualities and formats (WMA and MP3). My specs are: AMD Athlon XP 2900 512 MB Ram Don't know about the harddrive Windows XP SP2. Hey I know my collection is small, but I'm growing it thanks to Napster + Tunebite.

If they replace with a lower model, raise some hell!
