  1. LR44 SR44 , L44 are basically the same thing , just different ma. voltage is the same , no prob. go ahead and use it . The LR44 is a Maganese based battery , the SR44 is a Silver Oxide with better performance
  2. Currently Raining ,........ an cold .
  3. NIB will be tough to find bu I will look when I get back out this week . I will take a few pics if I see anything . New will also mean New price ........... unless it is on a closeout or something , but I will take a look. Wow , suddenly a Weird Al Yankovik song just hit me ............ " I bought in on EBay .... tell me Whyyy, .......""
  4. You didnt read his post . He IS running Windows ......... Parrallels lets you Run Windows on a Mac . Please read more carefully . @ the Mac problem . I am on a Macbook Pro C2D , what I have noticed from other Mac users ( Not on this forum ) is that Leopard , isnt playing nice . Tiger was fine and was still compatable . When you tried the different versions of SS did you make sure to completely uninstall the previous version ( including cleaning the registry?) I think you will have to clean all traces of it from the Windows side . What you should try , is first clean everything Sony out of the registry on the windows side, as well as all folders . Then (if your using XP ) ....DO NOT USE 4.3 ,........ you should use 4.2 , ......4.3 is Vista only and doesnt work well at all , everyone is having probs with it . What I do , is use Audacity or Final Vinyl , and just record my Legacy discs directly in , but recently I have purchased a Tascam Dr1 , and I am going to try a Line recording with it today ( I have been testing it out for the forums , and have a review up already) With the Mac OS changes that have occured recently , The API and Core Kernel has changed quite a bit , and it just might not be able to agree with Sonic Stage . Have you tried MD Transfer 2.0 on the Mac side yet? I would like to know how it works , that is one thing holding me back from getting Leopard . I use my RH1 with my Mac as well , But I only use HiMd mode , and upload thru MD Transfer 2.0 . MP3 transfers also work very well to MP3 capable MD's
  5. Update , I recorded a Meeting with the Tascam today , using just the internal mics , gain at Low setting , and Input level at 6 Limiter on , MP3 192 kbs I have to say I was quite impressed with the results Very clear , very solid , crispy and round at the same time. Battery level didnt move , 1 hour long recording . Listening to playback now , and ................ I in NO way regret , letting go of the Zoom H2 . The Tascam is giving me at LEAST 90 % of what I needed and the other 10 % is negotiable , there are workarounds. I have my recorder . Between it and the RH1 ,............... Portability has in fact been solved.
  6. You are not going to like that sound . The sound of an unprocessed pickup is going to nasty and harsh. If you use an effects processor like the Line 6 Pocket pod , you go from the headphone out of the effect to the line input of the RH1 , and adjust levels accordingly . Korgs Pandoras Box or Zoom , or any effector that has headphone out will let you do that , but the quality will vary by processor. The Korgs sound pretty good for having a Jam box in your guitar case , I used one all the time , and when I was teaching back in the US I would bring it and a Stereo Cable , and just plug into their stereo system instead of dragging an Amp around . Right now I have the Line 6 Pocket Pod , and it is pretty cool , but price wise , I would take the Korg PXD4 http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?a_prod_n...p;category_id=6
  7. not bad for 39 bucks , send me one I will promote it !!
  8. Montgomery's Finest Won't Pay Fines By Ernesto Londoño Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, March 8, 2008; A01 Among the thousands of drivers who have been issued $40 fines after being nabbed by Montgomery County's new speed cameras are scores of county police officers. The difference is, many of the officers are refusing to pay. The officers are following the advice of their union, which says the citations are issued not to the driver but to the vehicle's owner -- in this case, the county. That view has rankled Police Chief J. Thomas Manger and County Council Member Phil Andrews (D-Gaithersburg-Rockville), who chairs the Public Safety Committee. "You can't have one set of laws for police officers and another one for the rest of the world," Andrews said. In recent weeks, officers have twice been photographed speeding past a camera and extending a middle finger, an act that police supervisors interpreted as a gesture of defiance. "There is no excuse for that kind of behavior," said Andrews, who was briefed on the incidents. During the last eight months of 2007, the department's cameras recorded 224 instances in which county police vehicles were nabbed traveling more than 10 mph over the speed limit, the department disclosed this week in response to an inquiry from The Washington Post. Of those citations, 76 were dismissed after supervisors determined that officers were responding to calls or had other valid reasons to exceed the speed limit. Nearly two-thirds of the remaining 148 fines have not been paid, including an unspecified number that remain under investigation, said Lt. Paul Starks, a police spokesman. He said the number of citations issued to police employees this year is not yet available. Officer Mark Zifcak, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 35, did not respond to an e-mail and two phone messages this week seeking comment. In a notice posted on its Web site, the union advises that "members should not pay or set court dates for speed camera citations that are issued to the employer." Manger is demanding that officers pay the fines, a request that has met stiff opposition from union leaders and has been ignored by some sergeants who were asked to investigate whether officers nabbed by the cameras had a valid reason to speed. "We are not above the law," Manger said in an interview. "It is imperative that the police department hold itself to the same standards that we're holding the public to." Officials at the county's fire department, sheriff's office and four municipal police departments said employees who have been caught speeding in government vehicles have paid the fines. "The only time we don't make them pay the fine is if they're on an emergency call," Sheriff Raymond M. Kight said. "We haven't had any resistance at all." The dispute over the citations is the latest in a series of confrontations between county police commanders and the union, which has become increasingly powerful in recent years. Leaders of the police union recently filed a grievance arguing that the citations constitute a change in labor conditions that the department must negotiate with the union before implementing. Some sergeants, who are covered by the union, have refused to investigate whether infractions occurred when officers were responding to calls, forcing commanders to turn to lieutenants, who are not represented by the union, according to two law enforcement sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because the cases are being investigated as personnel matters. The sources said the cruiser in one of the incidents in which a vulgar gesture was made was assigned to Michael Simpson, an officer in Wheaton. One of the sources said Simpson appears to have been responding to a call in January when he was traveling at more than 80 mph on Randolph Road. Simpson received speed camera citations in November and December, according to a database of citations obtained under a public records request. Simpson did not respond to an e-mail message seeking comment, and efforts to contact him through the department's media office were unsuccessful. Supervisors at the three municipal police departments in the county that operate speed cameras -- Gaithersburg, Rockville and Chevy Chase Village -- said employees have not resisted paying fines. "We hold them responsible," said Rockville Police Capt. Bob Rappoport, whose department has received about a half-dozen citations. "Our officers have paid out of their own pockets." Gaithersburg and Rockville officers are not represented by the same union as county police officers, and the Chevy Chase Village police do not have a union. County Executive Isiah Leggett (D), who said he received and paid for a speed camera citation recently, said that he disagrees with the county police union's position but that he is confident that Manger will hold his officers accountable. Under the law, owners of vehicles, not drivers, are punished for failure to pay fines. Manger said, however, that officers who continue to ignore citations might be disciplined. Montgomery is the only county in Maryland that is authorized to use cameras to enforce speed limits, but legislation is moving through the General Assembly this year to allow speed cameras statewide. A bill introduced by Gov. Martin O'Malley's administration would allow local jurisdictions to use speed cameras in residential neighborhoods, near schools and on highways with construction work. The Senate could vote on the measure as early as next week.
  9. Do you have Level adjustment on your box ? Or can you build that into it with a stereo Linear taper volume potentiometer , then it would probably work . The Caveat is , that the Line input has to be pushed a little so I dont know if it would be sensitive enough , I dont have one of those boxes . It works VERY well from a Mixer output , ( which is why I listed Master Recorder in my list of can do's ) The Sound quality is Fat Analougish without the Noise . The More I play with this thing the more I like it , just have to work around a few quirks , but what doesnt have its quirks , I havent seen a Perfect machine yet in the digital realm . I think my Sony WM-D6C was as close to perfect as a small recorder could get , but that was in the "days gone by "
  10. Crap ......... I dont have Paypal , I used to but the US paypal account wouldnt integrate with my Japanese Bank .I talked to both of them . Maybe it is different now , I dont know , will have to look into that .
  11. Wow i sooooo want that , dag and no money right now AGGHHHHH Trades???????
  12. wow , good one dude . Hot water , disolves sugar , the Chemicals you mention might damage the disc , this would be the test , and I would like to see pics . A "Dutch Oven " pot under , Pot inside water in both slow cook the discs in the top pot , over an hour or so ( Maybe more ???) but not hot enough to boil or warp the plastic . Or running under warm water while carefully holding the the shutter open , and rinsing the disc.
  13. Actually I think you have inspired me to build a Proper mount for this thing .................... We will see what hapens.
  14. Indeed , the RH1 . " Several Hundred Hours " he will get it down to about 60 cents an Hour in value if he buys the RH1 Time saved .......... Is money and stress saved as well .
  15. LOL ........ " Necessity ,... The Mother of Invention " Yah mon , I would be treetin dat , like baby cobra gentle mon .! I went to your Myspace , " Video Killed the Radio Star " ............. Right ON dude , I love it , I have the original Video of the Song from way back it the 80's It is in Divx format but I could send it to you . I am very "Stuck" in the 70's 80's time period .......... Your band sounds good by the way.
  16. wow nobody has jabbed me about my bad guitar playing !
  17. In my first post , I made mention of the Zoom , and in the first recording I also mentioned the Zoom . Although the internal mics were a little quieter on the H2 , I did NOT like the sound , the Sound quality of the Tascam is impressive , very punchy , very wide spectrum . The Limiter that is in the Tascam is of FAR BETTER quality than the Zoom ( I had the H2 so I know) The Limiter in the Tascam is Beautiful if you know how to set levels properly . Very clean . I prefer a Good Stereo recording to a Not so good 3d image any day . The accessories with the Zoom are indeed cool , this is a Prob for the Tascam , there are no mounts at all , there are four tiny silicon feet on the back of the unit so you can lay it down on a Table . but the is a little Bar across the top of the Mic assembly , and Hanging it from that is not out of the question use something soft , ( shoestrings , cloth , rubber bands , etc ) and it will dampen vibrations . Also in a Louder situation like you describe , you can easily get away with using the stereo Mic Input with an external Mic on a Stand,( in fact that is what I would recommend ) and use the Limit , and Low mic gain settings with the Input level down low . You will get a Noise free recording.
  18. For Field and Nature sounds ( with the exception of thunder that is close ) , I will still recommend the RH1 , and an AT 822 mic I have recorded ambient with the Tascam , and with a proper windscreen , it could be usable , but there would be a minimal after processing, of noise removal , with a tool like Sound Soap , from Bias Peak , Not much noise but it is there , The Zoom H4 is not in the same class, I wont even go there , The Roland/Edirol R-09 would be a better bet . The Mic preamp that is in the Sony MD far out classes any portable recorder in its price range , just the lack of a proper limiter in it creates an issue for sudden jumps in dynamics, especially large jumps ( Big Thunder ) but with good level watching and manual level control , it cant be beat .......yet. If you know how to use Noise removal tools ( delicately , and a little at a time ) you can get away with the Tascam . I think if you take a Good pair of headphones , and go to different hi end shops and just listen to different units first , The Sony PCM D50 might be a better option , I havent had a chance to A/B it yet , there is one in a store close to me , I just have to get the time to actually hear it . I am a Musician so I was looking for a different purpose from the Tascam ( which it does quite well) for Field work , I think I will still use my Sony MZ-R50 , or the RH1 , I havent found better yet ,at least not under a huge price tag .
  19. Absolutely going to have to make a Scrunchy for it , I took it out today on a Tour of a Building inside and out , and I used Auto Level for the first Half , and Limiter for the second half . I really do not like the auto level control when in motion , any slight movement of air triggers a way to strong response of the Auto Gain , it acts like clipping . Limiter was much better but Wind noise from air moving across the mics , will make outdoor recording impossible , You will have to make a GOOd scrunchy for this to use it outside . Also the Mics seem a LOT more sensitive in an Ambient area, walking down a hallway of a Factory was interesting , hard walls high ceilings , forklifts , etc , cargo elevators , it seems that the noise of the quiet room isnt so much preamp related as it is software related , the Dynamics and sensitivity of the mics image jumped considerable amounts over the quiet room . When in a room where the ambience is dampened ( Carpets , insulation , etc ) a QUIET room , there is a lot of white noise to be heard . I think the Edirol R-09 wind shield might fit this, I will have to order one. http://www.edirol.net/products/en/OP-R09WS/ In an Ambient environment , the white noise isnt masked , by the ambience , it actually goes down , you can hear it drop , I tried it at home , by using the AT 822 , walking around in the house quiet , no one home , then while still recording went outside the front door in the street down the road around the block and back inside , the noise levels actually dropped when I went outside . So I am thoroughly convinced it is a algorithim , or in other words a Software issue . Somekind of a Noise reduction or gain control system or subroutine that gets overly cramped in a quiet room , and then lets go in an ambient area , outside it was MUCH quieter in terms of white noise , and the mic gain seem WAY more sensitive than in a closed soft room . The AT 822 even sounded a lot better outside . ( Mic setting Low , and input level at 8 ) it could definitely do any concert without a problem .

That is a Great Idea Tunings , stored on MD for All your Instruments , I LIKE THAT one ! Ok here is another one When I was a Teenager , I worked as a Clown for Nursing Homes , and Preschools , ....... It involved also telling stories , so the MD could be used for Backing Tracks , and Cues , for the Stories , and Musical scenarios for the entertainment. I wish I would have had an MD then , I did use Tape for it . But MD would have been WAY cooler .

Older Md's that dont upload , but you want a CD ........ Record from the line out of the MD , to the Computer Line input , with a Program like Audacity or Final Vinyl , then separate the parts you want to be tracks , and burn them to CD !
  23. Playback of the CD was spotless , totally Gapless , and it sounded very good . The only thing I noticed was , the Auto Track Mark function didnt seem to work , I will have to play with that . Final Vinyl for mac ,............ Cool Prog.
  24. testing it right now , Recording , an older MD from the RH1 line out to the Mac input , It doesnt use very much processing power at all when recording . On editing it might be a little more involved , but it seems to be pretty quick . Update : Recording done , playing back the file now , Sound is nice and clean , This was recorded the R50 sometime ago from LP (Vinyl) so I couldnt upload it, Audacity didnt do Track marks per say ( you could cut /paste/ copy ) but this has track markers and Very nice VU meters. Track marked , files separated , and in the process of burning to CD . very easy , I used , Final to mark and separate ( Control klik the track , a window pops up Save as , Name the file tell it where to go) from that folder I use "Burn " for Mac ( very cool prog) import the files in the order I wanted them and Burn an Audio CD . Painless
  25. I just downloaded Final , from Apple downloads . No iMic or anyother Griffin Device needed . It Has in the Preferences pane Selection for input, WITH GAIN CONTROL ...+/- 20 db I had my AT 822 connected directly to the line in on the Macbook Pro , increased the Gain 20 db , and hit the record button . YES IT WORKS !!! a litlle noisy cranked AL THE way up. but this means real time transfers from MD , or any other device with a line out will work directly connected to your Computer. That means the Track Marking function in Final Vinyl is now yours for the taking . FREE The layout is simple and clean and looks good . The list of effects are short and to the point . Auto Mark Clear Marks Insert silence Normalize that is it , plus there is an effect view pane so the when you apply something you can see it in a separate window .
