  1. That wont sit for long , ..........and its BLACK AGGGHHHHHHHHHH ,........ me wants but no dough !!!!!( wanna trade sumfin?)
  2. I bought the Sony furby , and it fits , took it out for a Windy day walk ( I mean Flag moving , Hair breezing Windy ..) On The Mid Gain setting , I had to bring the levels down quite a bit to keep from clipping , but on Low gain , I was riding a low 8 and not clipping very much at all . only on really strong gusts . The Sony Furby also fits the head of the AT-822 with the back of the mic heads just barely exposed so I will try a AT-822 Furby on it , into the DR1 , tomorrow to see what I get . I just got thru making a Mono 26db preamp with 88 db S/N ,unbalanced I/O and Any one who owns a Multitrack recorder will need one of these . I spent all afternoon in the headphones , and putting it together with all kinds of equipment and am quite pleased with the results . A stereo version is forthcoming , ........ that being said , It would make a nice pairup with the DR1 as that it works off 9 volts batts . I have ordered nice slide in Batt boxes for it , this one has the batt inside so I have to open the casing to get to it , but it with the Mic 2 input of the DR1 , and the levels brought down , was Almost ( not quite)Noiseless , and absolutely HUGE sound , 3 feet away from the mic and Peaking levels beautifully . Gorgeous. Sorry about the abrupt ending on this recording , I was in a hurry . No editing at all , uploaded directly from the DR1 , This preramp is intended for Multitrackers with weak inputs ( Tape or Digital , make the Zoom 4 tracks , or Boss sound WAY better. And an MP3 of the Preamp with the DR1 , mic 2 input . The Mic pre specs are as follows ( in case any are interested in one ) 9 Volts supply @ 2.2ma consumption Gain : 26 db S/N : 88db ( 1khz) Freq Response : 60 hz- 40 khz input Impedance 30Kohms Max out : 1.6 volts rms Min input : 80 milli V rms THd @ Max out : 0.1% A stereo version , would be perfect for the AT-822 , The Mono and Stereo, versions will also be able to be setup to power the small capsule condensers ( Specify mic use)
  3. Well , if you read the entire review , youwill notice I mentioned that noise , and that I know how to get around it . The Low gain setting at Input level 8 , for close ( 2 feet ) micing is ok for my guitar . but that noise is a combination of Preamp and software issues.
  4. With the RH1 yes , M100 yes , M200(same thing as RH1 ) yes , I am on a Mac and use MD Transfer 2.0 , and an RH1 , transfers are fast and come in as wav so you can go directly to edit.

    About the RH1

It is faster on a Mac !! ,........... sorry I just had to .
  6. I just got news that the Tabla player , I spoke of will be coming back to Japan for three months , so I will get some time with him , and will get some recording with him as well YIPEEE !!! I have a Sony Furby on hold , and am taking my DR1 with me tomorrow to look at it , I think it will fit , so I might be buying it .
  7. For everyone on windows , as far as AVSW goes , use AVG from Grisoft and you probably wont have that problem , a lot of AV invades the whole system (Norton , Macaflea ,etc) AVG works on per package level instead , you can assign which progs to watch and which ones to not watch. Plus the fact that AVG is just plain better .
  8. on your NH1 , go into the menu , look at Record Settings ( get your manual out ,and read about Recording and Record Settings) , on the NH1 you have three Record modes SP, LP2,LP4 When you record on the NH1 set it to SP mode for recording , after recording , that disc should play in the MZ1 as is .
  9. The MZ 1 is the very first version of Atrac , and there have been MANY upgrades , and the equipment has kept pace with the changes. So if you record something in SP mode , on say an R50 , it will play fine , if you record something in SP mode on an RH1 it might not play very well , and that is because the ATRAC version of the RH1 , and the R50 are several stages apart . The MZ1 , also will NOT play any LP , LP2 , LP4 mode discs , it must be in SP mode . It would be better if your Recorded , what you want on disc , TO the MZ1 , then it will be completely compatible. Any of the Atrac modes , of MZ-r50 and prior , will play on the MZ-1 , and that with differing results , believe me I have tried. I cant say about Sonic Stage , because I am on a Mac , I am just saying from being an Owner of all the above noted units . stuff I recorded on a Kenwood DCM-F5R seemed to play quite well on the MZ1 but Stuff I recorded on my RH1 , would tend to skip , and the MZ1 would take a lot longer to read and allocate the files.
  10. I might have an extra Batt pack , and yes the 6 volt charger you have will work , the Battery that is in it is an LIP8 and you will have to order it . There are replacements that are NOT the original SONY parts , but are also NOT , .....dare I say it , the original SONY price either . I am using one of those now , I will update this post with a link to those batts later today . BTW ,......... Welcome to the R50 club , The best built MD ever made .
  11. I Make , and Play Flutes as well , and I could see the Shakuhachi player liking it , The reverb built in and the space of the mics , he could set it down , and back away 5 feet or more from it and get a great sound . As for walking around with it , You WILL need a Furby on it , ( fur type windscreen ) also there will be handling noise fro it being in your hand , and if your not very careful static sounds from movement of the mic wires( they are VERY thin) I love Tabla , and had a very good Tabla player with me for a time , it was a lot of fun. The Tascam has a charging circuit built it , so if you are where there is no power a 6 or 9 volt , 800 ma solar panel will do the trick nicely ( I have already tried this). as long as your close to the 5 volts input ( not under) .........the DC jack is very flexible ,................ the USB input MUST be USB 5 Volts . I saw the Sony Furby for the PCM D50 yesterday , 4,900 yen , and it looks like it will fit
  12. Well , I downloaded the driver from the website , instead of using the CD rom , and My Macbook instantly recognized it , Print quality is very nice . I Havent tried Photo Paper yet , I haver some somewhere but have to find it , I did print two Web Pix that I snagged off a website , on Plain Paper , And not to shabby if I do say so myself . The printer is fairly quiet , and pretty quick ( depending on what your printing .)
  13. Are you coming to Japan ????? do We get to meet ?????? Yokohama area !!!!
  14. Well , Stuge , I have a freind who isnt of this forum , he is a Tabla Player , of extraordinary nature , and we used to perform here in Japan but he moved away , to Australia Shen Flindell , is his name . and he has some videos on you tube somewhere .But he studies in India . He was there .
  15. Bought a Canon Pixus , iP90V printer for my Macbook Pro I had asked for a printer 8 months ago , the wife said NO ! ..... She decides ...... SHE,..... needs to print something , and says Go buy a printer for the Computer So , I finally got my iP90V! YAY! http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controll...p;modelid=14723
  16. @440 , I have no probs with freindship , but I believe in respecting someones wishes , when they say they dont want something , and gives specific reasons why they dont want it ............ who are we , to OVER emphasize our OWN value , to you the Batt box isnt cumbersome , or excessive , because you have a specific purpose , and a certain level of audio requirement from your gear , in other words ,.. YOU , Know exactly , what you want from your gear . But that doesnt mean it will fit with what he is after ,That is all I was trying to present . I will be recording an Irish group in a Recording studio on the 12 of april . So let me use this as an example . I .... am the Engineer , .... They , Have NO recording experience , I , CAN say how I think it should go , and do the RECORDING aspect of everything , but when it comes down to the Final mix , ......... who's opinion is going to matter ? Yes I can tell them , what I think sounds good , but as a group they are going to listen as well , and might want something sonically COMPLETELY different that what I have going on in my head . And ........... It is THEIR CD . they are paying for it . I am VERY sensitive to when someone says " That isn't what I want ", It is a Very important part of communication . Just my 2 cents worth .
  17. I guess the words " I Dont want " really doesnt have a meaning then. hmmm I guess I need to relearn the english language .
  18. the 1411 IS CD standard as I mentioned before , ( I corrected the numbers )
  19. awww man , sorry dude , it used to work , it seems like servers are changing faster than Mikkey D's financial strategies
  20. @440 man it seems like no one actually reads a post before they reply anymore , we are getting way out of form on communication here guys . QUOTE(David B @ Mar 25 2008, 02:08 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I wish I had found this board sooner! . I don't want to go down the route of battery boxes and pre-amps, partly due to the expense and partly due to the complexity.
  21. 128 kbs , is NOT cd quality ....... 16bit , 44.1 Khz sample rate , 1411 kbs Wave or Aiff is CD quality the adverts that state 128 is CD , are Misleading and an outright lie . I am an Audio engineer , ( semi retired) so when you select a format to record to select WAV,16 bit , 44.1 khz, which will eat up drive space , but will be More easily burned to CD (Since that IS what CD is in the first place) If you want a little better quality WAV 24 bit , 44.1 Khz , will still burn to CD nicely without having to be resampled . You can go higher (48 khz sample rate ) but when it goes to CD it gets resampled to 44.1. to Save drive space , and a slightly lesser quality , the VBR 320 is as low as I would ever go . and that would ONLY be for a Demo , never a production.
  22. there is an Overdub feature in the DR1 , but the original File has to be in WAV format not MP3 . then you can make adjustments and do a voice over , On a different note , You can use Mic 2 input and a nice mono mic , Turn the "Monitor " feature on , use the Line out to a different recording device or straight into the computer , with a Program like Audacity . Adjust the level of the Mic , and the overall volume of the unit , then it wont matter what format it is in . ( I do this with MD , Playback the file , and record to another MD while mixing in some guitar or flute) as per Updates , Tascam , has a small problem of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing , The USA site , doesnt have the Update , but the German site does ........... And no notices were given , if it weren't for MR. Jeigermeister28 , posting about the update , I wouldn't have known. so that is something I believ you just have to check once in awhile on your own .
  23. when you format the card you erase everything BUT the OS , or system files . The Manual is available online from Tascam . The update is available from the Germany site ( they have english version ) 1.02 to update you download the file , unzip it , put the version file onto the Tascam via USB , into the System folder then unhook it and power off , hold down two buttons while powering on It asks if you want to update , klik the Play button (=Yes) and one more time , then the update begins . Version 1.02 adds some sensitivity to the mics , the Low Gain setting sounds a lot better . http://www.tascam.de/en/index.html follow the links for the DR1
  24. the Cymbals are nice and crisp , and the drums dont sound like they overpower anything , fair balance (exept for the vocalist LOL) for just catching the rehearsal , it is about as good as you can get , The only level up from that is to run everything to a Mixing board , using a Peak Limiter on the Master out of the mixer , then into the line in on the Tascam .
