    Buying LIP-4WM

There is always the option of getting the Macally IP-A481 which packs about 10 times the power at half the list price of the SONY LIon battery but is outboard. I just got mine, was referred to a Dutch review of one which shows huge increases in playing/recording time at half price. Seems pretty simple to me. Miy Macally is charging now. I will let you all know how it is working for me in a week or so. Cheers.
  2. Hey, thanks! I have an old pillow which could be shaped and stitched to do the job just fine. Spray paint it black and bingo! another fluff head to run for office. No, another fluff head to record music. New project. Thanks again.
  3. My Dutch is quite limited. Actually all I can say applies here: kan nit verstan! My IP-A481 arrived today with a small scratch across the top. No big deal. I am charging it now. I was going to put together an article about how long it plays with the IP-481 alone and with the LIon battery together but our Dutch friend has beaten me. I do not think I will be needing that much power to record with, but, I will never be worried I will run out of juice, either. And, look how much power you get for about half the price of the SONY proprietary LIon battery. Kind of a no-brainer. Oh, the US packaging is different. Cheers
  4. A440 - You are a bad boy! To suggest that someone in the White House even has a head is a very optimistic statement. I do not think we have any proof to demonstrate that the old Yale cheerleader has a brain or a head devoid of a brain. I was thinking maybe a hairdresser or wig shop, something local. I will call around. Hey, this live "taping" is fun. Looks like it will be "just another addiction." Oh, well, it is legal and not health-threatening. Yessir!
  5. Further on the recording: I have made CD's from the three sets and they are pretty good, especially for a first try. Probably not be that lucky again for a long while. OK, I will also record binaural along with stereo next time. I will use my old MZ-N1 for binaural in SP mode. I have some SoundMan (www.soundman.de) in-ear mics which have been good in the past. Rather than wear them I hope to mount them in a styrofoam dummy's head. Anyone know where they are found??? Thanks
  6. Bose is good if you can find no other brand. If you are "Kanajin" you have the wonderful Paradigm speakers. Canada makes some wonderful products and these are one.
  7. "Reanimation" is probably a literal translation from the German. I would think "revive", "rebuild" or "resurrect" would be more appropriate in English in this usage. Just a thought.
  8. Thanks for the quick reply! The sizes of the OMA and the WAV files are the same, so I kind of thought they were identical. But getting it from someone who knows is a good thing. Thank you!
  9. Followed A440's advice and got a good, clean recording of two amped guitarists doing folk-rock in a bar. It sounds pretty good, limited by the quality of one guitar amp/pa and the crowd noise. Otherwise amazingly good. Just found a good spot, turned on the ECM-MS957 and the RH1 and let it go. Oh, and I switched HiMD's between sets.
  10. I ordered the Macally IP-A481 and it is "in the mail" arriving here around the 29th. I recorded about two hours on the LIon battery alone last night at PCM and it went well. No problemo. But I do like the idea of the back-up of a large power source. I will let you know, all of you, when the Macally arrives and how it works. It is only a battery so I guess it will work just fine. BTW, it is way cheaper than a LIon battery from SONY. The SONY marketing department seems to be staffed by ninnies and fools.
  11. A440 - thanks for the info; problem solved. I tried to send GBP10 to Marcnet but was refused by the board. I will try again.
  12. Hi, I did my first live recording and it sounds pretty good! Imagine that. RH1 + ECM-MS957. Not the world's best mic, I have heard, but it did alright last night. Except for the audience sounds. Oh, well. I uploaded it no sweat and it was saved in SS as an OMA file. This was then converted to a WAV file which I saved on my desktop. Questions: do I have to have the OMA file as an intermediate step and what are the losses going from PCM to OMA to WAV. I'll take my answer off the air.
  13. I have an RH1 and would there for have no need for either a car or home player. I just upload, burn to CD-RW and the deed is done with the hardware I have. Why would I want more to end up with no greater functionality??
  14. Hi, I am new here and am quite confused with the SS and HiMDRenderer threads. Will SS 4.2 trash HiMD files on the upload making HiMDRenderer neccessary or not? Waiting anxiously in Oregon!
  15. Hi - The list price for a new Lithium Ion battery is US$10 higher than this remote source (Macally IP-A481) which is also Lithium Ion and more powerful. These are the Minidisco prices. Seems a no-brainer to me. And it is USB charged, too, so that problem is eliminated: losing the charger. Has anyone had experience with this unit??
  16. Hi - I just got the RH1 and like it a lot. I did a test recording in PCM of music off my stereo and it seemed pretty accurate. I plan to record some local bar bands and to record some local symphonic groups. Who can offer advice on mic placement? How far from the performers? Mic sensitivity would be "Low" and I guess the gain would be 15/30. I can do it over and over again until I get something to work right. It is a learning experience. My guess is to get in as close as possible but not in their laps. What say you? Thanks.
  17. Hi - I am curious about how far the mic was from the musicians. I am trying to get an idea of what would be optimum. Thanks
  18. Thanks, you are right, there is no need for pause. Thanks for the help.
  19. Hi, first post, so I will try to get it right. I have a pretty new RH1 and just love it. SONY did do it right this time. The problem is that when I hit pause, and leave it in pause for an hour or more, it will sometimes start up, play for a minute or two and then give a read error. The tracks are MP3's on Hi-MD discs, and it has failed on four different discs. I talked to SONY customer support and their suggestion was to not use this feature. Dumbest support answer I have ever gotten. Like it is my fault that "pause" does not perform as it should. OK, 1) Has anyone else had this problem? 2) If you have, what was the fix?? Thanks!
