mgdimo
Just curious,How long do you spend here? Whether...browsing or postingat home or at workposting 10 or 100 words per minuteon average by day or by weekjust here. Forget any[internet]where elseThis is just for fun. But be honest. I've been meaning to ask this for a while. When my wife wanted to know what the hell has been keeping me up so late, I showed her the picture in Shermy's avatar...Oooooh BABY...NH900!! I figure I average about an hour a day here. Obviously, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. Not as torrid an afair as some of you, I hope. Adds up over the course of the workday.
sony_man
it really depends for me. i might be really lazy to read something one day and go nuts and answer or help like 20 threads the next.
Christopher
Nice thread..You really don't want to know, but it's different in my case, being admin. [likely excuse! ]One of the main reasons why I'm around so much is that I work at a Cable ISP. What can we do inbetween calls? Surf the 'net. So of course, where do I go? mgdimo
Uh...P.S. I think I'm approaching 3 hours for today alone. Maybe I wasn't being honest with myself beforeOh, and Kurisu, I didn't want to bust your chops too much on another thread because I don't know you well enough.....well..at all. BUT, I hope your new job [in GA?] allows you as much time here, for OUR sake! All meant in good fun, of course. Fat Tires
hmmm... I spend most of my day at my desk when I'm not travelling, so I spend at least 3-4 hours total checking out the site and reading threads. I answer a couple here and there too. And this Georgia endeavor will not be new employment, but rather college. I dunno if I'll be around as much by then. Only time will tell, but to be honest, I deserve a long break. Plus, with this new forum software, I actually can chill out alot on worrying about things in the backend as everything is pretty much self-sufficient. Fat Tires
^ skmetal, Greg has seemd to calm down a lot recently. I can handle his constant posting, really, am I any better? At least he's not always trying to get into a fight like someone else who posts there too.
aeriyn
I used to spend a long time here back when I was an MD user. When I sold it all for something more flexible, I just didn't come back as much because I didn't think my ambivalence toward MD would really help the community.Nowadays, I just lurk in the phones forum and try to keep people from buying Koss the plug. Christopher
Something I would like to ask y'all is what keeps people coming back to a forum? Sheer popularity, diverse topics, dynamic content, etc?
Fat Tires
I like the dancing girls. Seriously though, I orignally came to the MDCF board for help with knowing how to use my MD recorder. After learning a lot about the format I wanted to help others with their newbie questions, so I got a job here.
MZ-NH1
kurisu, there isn't a timer kinda thing which you can add to this forum is there? Which will track and log how many hours a day and week someone spends on the forums is there?Since I am on holidays, I tend to visit this place every morning for about 30-40 mins reading all the new threads, then come back later on at night time and check for the new threads Edited January 16, 2005 by MZ-NH1
aeriyn
Something I would like to ask y'all is what keeps people coming back to a forum? Sheer popularity, diverse topics, dynamic content, etc?←For me, it is content that's fresh all the time and many different topics of content. Although, I think my attention is pretty much rooted to the DIY forum at head-fi as long as they aren't talking about Dynahis. -.-' Even if I could afford to build one *coughfivehundredusdollarscough* matching all those transistors... cutting angle aluminum... heatsinks, worrying about heat, insane DC offset issues...Meh. I'm a DIY noob. =P

mgdimo
Something I would like to ask y'all is what keeps people coming back to a forum? Sheer popularity, diverse topics, dynamic content, etc?←How I found it was1. curiosity about my impending investment and wanting to make informed choices with my couple o' bucks.2. Google search. A very good thing.3. minidisc.org product reviews and everything else minidisc.orgWhat got me hooked was1. members like Dex Otaku, A440, Kurisu et al who are so sincere and forthcoming with information and who just do it because it moves them. I mean, this is a hobby/recreational activity for most of us. To have such knowlwdgeable people offer unbiased information and relentless (often redundant) support kinda makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy because you know they're doing it because they love it.I can only imagine that when these forums started, there were not such diverse topics and dynamic content and stuff. It was most likely the people involved who were diverse and dynamic and made this place worth while. From there it grew to be a pretty diverse and informative hang. Then you add folks like...well...me who are learning as they go, having no prior MD experience, but sharing questions and concerns so as to elicit the expertise of y'all. By the way, I must be going on five fucking hours on these here minidisc community forums and I think I'm starting to get a little stupid. So goodnight. It's midnight, 1/16/05 in NY. GREG←Interesting that you put it this way. When I came here [only last summer] I knew very little about MD or HiMD. I came to learn about them. I'd used MD equipment before, I was around and knew about its existence when it was released. [side note: at that time I argued fiercely against both it and DCC's using lossy compression. I actually wrote an essay/speech about when I was in high school. No one else knew wtf I was talking about, of course.]Point being - I came here for the same reason you did. I've been on the net one way or another since about 1988. I've seen it go from being a tight-knit community in many areas to being an overpopulated, overrated, commercialised pile of junk. Still - there is such a thing as community out here. It's tended to become more insular, sure. But it's still here. And it's here. I know that.Incidentally, I spend a great deal of time here. On a busy day, probably 5-6 hours. And I'm not even a mod or admin. The truth is that contributing to this place [even if I am sometimes a snarky bastard] is one of the only things I actually still do in my life. Bananatree
I wouldn't take the money from you. Bananatree
Make sure if you send drugs, be sure to send some Bob Marley and twinkies to go along with it. Munchies are the last things us over-worked mods need.
