Fat Tires
This is the place for all discussion of American Idol here at the MDCF. Did you watch the show? Are you a fan? Who do you think has the chops to make it to the finals?
Syrius
I'm not watching it. I'm not watching it.I'm not watching it.I'm not watching it.I'm not watching it.Reality shows have become the scourge of television. They dilute the quality of the entertainment, and degrade your intelligence. And Simon must not have gotten enough love from his parents when he was a child.Sorry for the rant. You can tell I don't like it.
MZ-NH1
Don’t you get sick or reality shows that always keep coming back? Like BIG BROTHER 5!!! OMG get over it already! ..... and like "Australian Idol 3" down in Australia . We have other ones as well. I like some of the US reality shows... like Wife Swap, coz that is just plain funny watching those idiots who sign up to it! What else is there….I hear there is a “Sports Illustrated” show coming in the US, where chicks try and win themselves to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated… that is one show I WILL be watching
Fat Tires
The only reality shows that I like are The Amazing Race and American Idol. I can't stand the rest.
dex Otaku
American Idol [or the equivalent wherever you are] is the penultimate expression of how the entertainment industry prostitutes artists. It is, quite simply, wrong.I find the entire concept deplorable.
Fat Tires
Aside from Simon, what's wrong with the show?
dex Otaku
Well, how about the idea of humiliating groups of people, falsely convincing many of them that they have talent when they clearly do not, pushing them along some artificially competitive line that has nothing to do with art or being an artist, and then rewarding one of them at the end of it all by perpetuating all of the absolute worst qualities of an industry based on whoring the ignorant and the naive? MZ-NH1
Yeh when I do watch it, it is normally because my sisters love to watch it and I love how Simon pays out everyone, because it is so true! The 1st 2 or 3 episodes are normally the ones for the best laugh, because you hear the really really shit singers
Fat Tires
Well, you've got a point. I never thought of it in that way. I was thinking of the competiveness in the final weeks of the show.
MZ-NH1
Ahaha. Just my POV Final weeks can be good when there are good singers featuring

bland10000
have winners gone on to success in the music industry?
Fat Tires
Moderate success at best so far.
dex Otaku
I would like to point out that: Success in the music industry != talent, artistic merit or integrityYou can get just as far in far less time by being good at fellatio as you can by investing years of energy into your art or ability. And I think this is what these shows exemplify. They encourage people to take an "easy way out" by selling out to the media and the industry, putting the focus on their look and persona while in the spotlight in front of a camera - rather than on developing their art and themselves as a person. It has absolutely no merit in my eyes, even if these naive younglings think they're giving it a shot for the gold. What they're really doing is selling their soul to the devil, metaphorically speaking.I wouldn't be surprised if the RIAA came up with the concept themselves in order to try and stir interest and perpetuate the industry's current marketing model that they know will eventually fail. yamagatacamille
bah, american idol. i think the only one who got "moderate success" was kelly clarkson; hell, i dont even know who won american idol 3. less said about AI 2, the better. there was this guy on AI 4 who held this terrible note for more than 15 seconds, simply unbearable.i'm really picky on reality shows; i'm happy 'the apprentice3' started (hah, those college grads got what they deserved!), and amazing race6 is just getting better and better. Syrius
I have been watching this other reality show, called "There's a real life out there" and let me assure you it beats any show or game you can think of. Sure, rent, bills and taxes can suck, but actually getting off the couch and walking and talking to people and helping strangers who can't pay you back and slowing down to smell the roses just can't be beat. *Gets ready to be pelted with tomatoes*
Fat Tires
Every time I see my family I feel the same way Syrius. TV is just a distraction from them.
