The TOC error that you get when you combine tracks on the unit and then attempt an upload. I think this has to happen with the auto tracking on with line input recordings. There is a thread around these parts that list the steps necessary to replicate. It did the same on the RH10 and the RH910 for me. I will try and get a thread link.

Here's the post from back in July....

For anyone interested, SS 3.2 does not solve the bug which prevents the uploading of files that have been edited on the minidisc.  I encourage everyone to try this test.  Make a recording from an analog source with auto track marking on.  Get at least 3 or 4 tracks.  After the recorder has updated the TOC go back and remove a track mark.  Let the TOC update again and then try to upload the combined track.  There is a good chance you will get the omgbox error.  If you don't, try playing the uploaded track in SS.  It will hang where the original track mark was, i.e where you combined two tracks into one.  If you convert to wav, the conversion will stop at the same point.  I reported this problem to Sony over two months ago in multiple phone and e-mail sessions.  I haven't heard a peep since.

While you can work around this bug by only editing on the computer, it's just too ironic that you can't use the only recording medium that was designed from the ground up to be easily edited to edit!  Until Sony fixes this, I see no rationale for keeping my Hi MD unit other than longer playback time.  I'll stick to my JB 980 deck and my Sharp DR7 portable.  They actually work, and the quality of the recording from the deck can't be matched with the current crop of Hi MD portables.

Please summarize current issues with Hi-MD units so I can make sure they're nullified in the third generation. MP3 playback woes is not applicable to this topic, so please do not speak of them. If you cite a bug, please also report how to replicate it.

1) NH1 ====> None as far as I can see

2) 2nd Gen stuff No "Native" support of LP2 / LP4 / SP -- whether or not this is important in future generations I don't know but while there are people still using high quality MDLP decks and MDLP or even original SP car radios then this is still important -- especially as there aren't any easily obtainablel replacements in H-MD format for these yet. In fact I think there's only 1 HI-MD shelf unit currently on offer (No Optical Out either) and no HI-MD car units.

3) SS 3.2 STILL has very occasional glitch of preventing access to your files (Track is protected etc etc), but a re-restore fixes this.

4) Drag 'n Drop for .WAV (PCM) files so no messing about / transcoding in SS.

Otherwise I'm reasonably happy -- SS 3.2 has fixed most of the real grievances I had with copying MY OWN legally obtained music.

Cheers

also not really a replicable bug... but

please Sony, test the buttons before shipping the recorders out

- I had problems with funny button behaviour (stop would skip track and menu wouldn't work at all) with my NH900 (which they fixed)

- now I read about ppl having troubles with the RH10 buttons

otherwise I've had no troubles at all... knock on wood

Mznh900 has a bug when editing (divide and combine) some short tracks (htere's a post about that). Another thing: The other day I recorded a cd using optical input in Hi-sp mode. Then I edited the tracks in the recorder (dividing). After that , I connected my recorder to the pc. In Sonicstage I change the order of the folders (nothing else!) with SS. Then when I tried to edit the songs in my recorder (recorded through optical input) it gives the message "cannot edit".

Please if anybody could test this make me know.

(I use a 1gb disc)

(SonicStage ver 3.2)

Well, you've had your chance... tongue.gif.

I personally do not feel so strongly about MP3 as the 'standard' MD formats, ie. SP and LP2. Quite frankly if they ditched MP3 and brought back the legacy formats (for recording - plus perhaps uploading thereof) in the third generation, there would, I'm sure be many happy bunnies.....

Though yes, I agree - for the sake of fairness, they really should do something about the MP3 playback 'bug'.. dont know if it's too late to tell them....?

I am very satisfied with my MZ-NH1, I rather have some new features on Software and especially SimpleBurner, like having the SP option for MD disc and all codec available for HiMD like why all bitrates and atrac3/Atrac3+ are available to download from SonicStage but only Hi-SP and Hi-LP are available for SimpleBurner with Hi-MD disc, just a though coz all I care is PCM and SP hehe so the big break is to finally have SP download for me smile.gif

There are features that existed on the 1st gen, but overlooked/absent on the 2nd gen units.

1. Fully utilize the 3 line display of the 40ELK. C'mon, is this so hard to do?

2. Again, on 40ELK. When browsing using the scroll wheel (without going to the Navi menu), the tracks are listed without the parent group's name. This makes navigating somewhat difficult, since you can't tell on which group you're on.

3. Have the unit remembered the last display setting. Currently, simply stopping playback on the unit will revert the display to the default.

Sony seems to not doing things "right" at the start, but trickling "fixes/features" on the consecutive new lineups. So maybe the HiMD units we "wanted" are probably the 5th or 6th gen, if the format can survive that long.

Kurisu, I know the Mp3 roll off thingy is not counted as a bug, but if we don't tell Sony about it, how will they get it right for a possible 3rd Gen? I am positive all our collective cries (FREEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! tongue.gif ) had something to do with the unlimited upload feature and the non-drm Atrac options on SS 3.2

Sony, please. Get it right. You know that good MP3+Minidisc is a safe bet. Who cares what format is played, as long as you are selling the machines and the media to play those formats?

Not sure if this really qualifies as a bug, but since I never had this problem with my old R910 or R55, I figured I'd mention it.

This past weekend, while recording a live concert, my unit reacted to interference from my cell phone while recording, and actually put unwanted sound into the recording. The sound is similar to the noise your computer speakers will make when your cell phone goes off nearby. I don't know how close to the unit a cell phone needs to be in order to cause this... honestly I don't even remember using my cell phone or taking it out at all during the show... but I DO know that my cell phone and the recorder were never side by side.
