RobA
How do I make the backlight stay on all the time without having to hit a button for it to turn on? I'm using the 600d with it. Edited December 25, 2005 by RobA

I'm using the 600d with it.I heard that you can upgrade your firmware (using the north american firmware) to make the backlight permanently on, but no idea how to do this without taking it to a engineer. I know this is the case with the RH10 so I would guess the same is true for the 600d.Hope you all had a good christmas!
tommypeters
RH10 and 600D doesn't have similar firmwares. It it works, it will anyway eat batteries...
The Low Volta
the NH900 has this option...but it comes with a backlit remote itself, so it could be logical that models that come without a backlit remote do not offer the option

Does it offer a menu for backlighting on the remote?
bland10000
yes, Japan rh10 has the option to keep the remote light on. The steps to do it on the 10 is to press the clickwheel for a few seconds and the menu will say "Edit, Mainplaymode, option". Click option and on next screen scroll down four lines to "backlight". Click it and choose "on". I think TLV is right, the unit has to have a backlit remote as part of it's standard package.
mrsoul
If your RH10 can do that why shouldn't others be able to do the same thing with a change to the firmware/settings?
bland10000
no idea if they can or if they can't... Edited December 26, 2005 by bland10000
mercury_in_flames
why would there be an option to have the remote on all the time?? Or am i lost here and u mean an option to have the remote light up when u press a button..
bland10000
There are three options with the remote; "auto" is what you describe, it lights up when you push a button, "on" is on at all times for whatever the reason, "off" is the remote won't light up if you push a button. The Low Volta
I have used the 'always on'-setting for recording a concert in a dark venue to check levels whenever I wanted without risking to compromise the recording by accidentally pressing the wrong buttonlater I found out that one click of the scroll-wheel will light up the screen while set on 'auto' without changing levels, but be careful, two clicks changes them!! So it is a bit more risky than 'always on' but better on the battery and also a bit more stealthy
mercury_in_flames
oh, does that chew up battery power big time?? I havent got that option on my hd5 with the remote.
tommypeters
Maybe not "big time", but the difference is noticeable. And the large, nice 40ELK MAY use up more batteries than the smaller remotes (haven't tested that, though...)
The Low Volta
the 'always on' recordings lasted for 6x1hour (so 6 hours ) in HiSP with fully charged gumstick (1400mAh) and AA add-on (2300mAh)... on the way home (45min) I listened to the recordings and afterwards I still had (quite) some juice left...so perhaps it uses more b-life, but I wasn't really 'limited' by thatwhen recording longer periods in PCM (which uses more b-power I guess) I have been careful not to use the always on function, better safe than sorry
KrazyIvan
Unfortunately I don't believe you will have the option on the NH600D, at least I don't have the option on the NHF800.
RobA
This stinks that it can't just stay on all the time. I just want to glance at it from time to time to see what song is playing at night. Is there atleast a button I can press to see whats playing without changing screens or anything?
KrazyIvan
I usually just press the volume +/- once. It activates the backlight without actually changing the volume.
rei-gouki
TLV also mentioned pressing down on the jog roller once to light it up without changing settings. Having no experience with them, I can say the volume buttons will be the more benign option.
The Low Volta
not pressing, just scrolling one click... but indeed, the volume buttons might be safer
pauljones52
Does anyone know if you can get the remote backlight permanently on for a European RH10, i.e. service menu hack?
