The Low Volta Posted June 24, 2006 Report Share Posted June 24, 2006 in Europe stores like Mediamarkt (I guess something like your radioshack) sells those 'sponges' really cheap, by the dozen a pack so you never have to worry about ripping one ever again still... why not invest some $25 in better headphones? this would 'cure' your everlaaaaaasting 'lack of bass'-disease as well perhaps (read the 'best headphones under $100 thread' as there are quite a few mentioned that would please bass-heads Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They had this dome shape to deliver more bass. Guess what? No bass at all, and I had to raise the volume way up to hear the music. Sorry, but i don't think Sony knows what bass is. I only know the Sony stockbuds, but those do not give me any faith in their ability to produce headphones why not another brand? (panasonic, ATH, Sennheiser, koss,... as I said, read the thread I mentioned as it reviews a lot of makes/models)besides there are options besides Megabass to get a lot of (well enough for music-loving ppl) bass out of the Sony HiMDs (for ppl interested, see greenmachines thread on eq-settings for bass gain) but you do not seem to believe in them (I've given up that discussion) AND more importantly... there is more to music than bass! Or sponge?Anyway, in-ear canal phones will usually have better bass than regular earbuds. However, there are NO earbuds that can compare to a full fledge headphone. So it has no power either.Then you definitely don't have a good seal. Change the silicone tip to one that fit you ear canal so they are snug fit, not loose. Canal phones with good fit blocks outside noise, so you don't actually have to up the volume. Either that or you got a defective bud. But also bear in mind the ex71 / 51 are fairly high impedance so they will sound a bit quiter compared to other lower impedance phones at the same volume. Damage Posted June 26, 2006 Report Share Posted June 26, 2006 The EX71/51s definiately packs a punch even with the underwhelming 5mW+5mW Sony Amps. Trust me, he's not getting a good seal or using undersized tips. And 16 ohms is not high impedance, not at all, considering that even the V6 (60 ohms) can pump out decent volume with portable Sony gear. In this case, the problem is getting a good seal.
