Modernaire
... ON eBay! Whats going on?! I've been watching MD auctions especially a few pre-recorded as I need a few titles to fillout my collection and sellers are just going banana's over greedy over pricing and Buy It Now prices! Ever since Michael Jackson passed away and his memorabilia skyrocketing in price which includes his pre-recorded MiniDiscs they've been going higher and staying there but across other titles. I mean Sade, as much as I love her albums, 30, 40 dollars?! C'mon. Its compressed music you know... Pink Floyd MDs always commanded a lot, but $200US or $80 with NO chance to do an actual proper bid? Ridiculous. 20 to 30 dollars for Michael Bolton!!! Christ! Even $6 dollars is crazy...! http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Michael-Bolton-TIMELESS-classics-MiniDisc-Sealed_W0QQitemZ320456058409 http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Michael-Bolton-TIMELESS-classics-MiniDisc-Sealed_W0QQitemZ360212856638 I realize later these links will be invalid but do a search. I tell ya... some people.
PsychoPimpKiller
I know what you mean. I've been slowly but surely building up a collection of pre-recorded MD's and the prices that some people have been asking are ridiculous. I bought Michael Jackson's Thriller late last year for around $20 give or take. I loved it when I was a kid and it's probably one of his best (if not his best) album. The most I paid for an MD album was around $25 and I don't even remember which one it was cause I have about 15 pre-recorded MD's right now. Some of them I have on CD but I thought it would cool to have them on MD as well. The least I paid was around $3 and it didn't have a case. I actually put a bid on a car MD player (MDX-C150, I think) on Ebay and won it $.99 and it cost me $11 for shipping and it had a Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run MD in it. And the radio works pretty good too. Some people are just trying to cash in whatever they can even if it is Michael Bolton. I've been slowly but surely building up a collection of pre-recorded MD's and the prices that some people have been asking are ridiculous. Surely things are worth what people are prepared to pay for them. I presume that these vendors are fairly confident they will get the asking price sooner or later; if they don't they will eventually have to lower their prices. Modernaire
The highest I paid was about 46 r so for Pink Floyds the Wall with Box complete. The second highest was about $30 for The Best Of The Doors which has translucent/iced MD holder inside, you can see through it with graphics, its also very rare and just a beautiful Pre-Rec MiniDisc. But thats just for real rare and special MDs. I can see big prices for the Japanese Michael Jackson MDs which are fantastic, here's a photo: But an auction is best when it starts low and collectors demand determine prices, I dislike it when sellers instantly demand $200 for Thriller MD for example or the History Greatest Hits package with no chance at bidding so it reaches what it actaully is worth. Bob Dylans MDs I'd pay about $14 or so. ELO double MD set of greatest hits - rare I'd pay maybe upto 30 US. Rolling Stones around 15 to 20, but thats it! Even sealed... okay well maybe sealed a little but when sealed Stones go for $40 - $60, 80, Im out. I can get the remastered CDs and transfer. PsychoPimpKiller
I only bought a couple of albums on MD just for the heck of it. Some of the stuff I have on MD, I already have on CD. I just thought it would be cool to also have them on MD. I listen to them too, they sound pretty damn good to my ears. I just like MD, what can I say. Giant_Rick
I agree that sometimes prices are too high; how many times I've saw a MD sold for more than 50 USD? Too many times. But I saw also some bargains. On ebay.co.uk there is (at least last night there was) a copy of Ten by Pearl Jam at
Juan22
I will go up to $40 US for a prerecorded MD if its one of my favorite artists. I own prerecorded MDs by Miles Davis, Iron Maiden, Queen, Moby and Radiohead, I've always wanted to get my hands on 'Judas Priest - Stained Class' but the prices for that one go up to $94...no way im paying that amount, specially since I have the remastered CD with bonus tracks (missing on the MD release)
Jimma
At the other end of the scale, I was recently very surprised to discover that n5md.com still had three of their releases available to buy from their website. The MDs cost $1 each and the postage to England from the US was $4.33. Roughly £4.46 for three brand new pre-recorded MiniDiscs, still fresh in their wrappers, straight from the record label, in 2011, what a bargain! As a matter of fact, for anyone who likes electronic music I've just checked and two of the three albums are still available (Punctuated by Quench and Distal by Portland). Just look under discography on the n5md website then click the album covers. I also bought a great ambient/dance album (Are You Shpongled? by Shpongle) straight from the Twisted Records website in the UK about five months ago. I think that was about £9 so not too bad. Again I was surprised I could but original MDs from the labels but what a pleasure it was when they came through the post. I doubt I'll ever come across anything like this again. Juan22
Congratulations Jimma on your purchase! I wish there was a website like n5md.com but for hard rock/metal prerecorded MDs, perhaps you know one?...some prices on ebay are crazy high. I see what you mean. I have watched some of these high priced prerecorded MDs on eBay from time to time. I have seen quite a few of them end with no takers and then re-listed at the same price over and over. They seem to never sell then the seller just stops re-listing them. It's crazy. PhilippeC
Make your own MD with beautiful printed labels both on the MD and on the jewel case...
