Christopher
I just recieved an e-mail from David Karon of Minidisco. This e-mail was also sent to the webmaster/owner of this site, and the webmaster of minidisct.com. The contents are as follows: I just received an update from our Sony rep and it is not good. See below: "As you may be aware, we just started shipping our first HiMD model, the MZNH600D. We were planning on shipping initial quantities of the MZNH800 very shortly, and unfortunately have been advised by the factory that these units have been delayed until mid to late July. In addition, the MZNH900 and MZNH1, which we intended to have available in June, are now also going to be delayed until the end of July." Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Sincerely, David Karon – Minidisco  Most disappointing news indeed.

The_Stamp
ya, it being held back 3-4 months is amazing. maybe their 605/805/905 model may be out a couple months before the these models come out. man, i was holding out for the next years' models, but with the depressing news, i might just get this years' if they plan to release next years' in next june/july. wow. way to make the deadline sony! On the other hand, sony may be taking another direction. perhaps they held back the models and disks until they got most of the bugs out. if this is true, then i say "good for you!" (or they could have secretly implemented mp3 capability. or a sneaky engineer put it in, and they had to recall them, taking it out) another that really ticks me off the the "strategy" of the release of the hi-mds! "LIMITED SUPPLY?" thats BS for "we don't have enough". "online strategy?" whats that? are they going to be using to be restricting people to using their website? Only stocking few disks in store? i bet they don't know if this new HI-MD will fly, so they will do the old "we'll make it if we need it" crap technique. One things for sure tho. if i DO end up purchasing this years' model (900 or 800) i would wait a while to see if the bugginess is worth it. my 2 cents (and hard earned too)
efenili
Is there even talk about the models after these ones? I am in the Clie world as well and Sony releasing new models in 5-6 months was not uncommon. My Brand new Clies got outdated so fast it wasn't even funny. But if the Hi-MD does what it says it does, there will be no need for me to update just like there was no need for me to update my NX70. But with 1GB discs and only 20groups, if a new one came out with larger discs and unlimited or many more groups I would be butt hurt
PDOG58
Is there even talk about the models after these ones?I am praying for a car deck to be released so there after. If they do, I am ALL over it. It would just top out my dream. I am getting the 800 once it is released and I want a car deck to go with it. It sure would make driving to Iowa from Chicago easier. Happy Hopping
On the good side, I have no money right now so I am happy to wait. Now, is it just this guy at minidisco or whatever his co. is, affect by this? Or has this been confirm that it will affect all retailers? As I want my NH1 soon. And what about these sites who claim the pre-order status? How can they be pre-ordering when there is a delay?
Christopher
Is there even talk about the models after these ones?None at all. Sony and the other big brands keep their information pretty tight.. But with 1GB discs and only 20groups, if a new one came out with larger discs and unlimited or many more groups..We're not so sure on the twenty groups yet. Just doesn't seem right to me.. Now, is it just this guy at minidisco or whatever his co. is, affect by this? Or has this been confirm that it will affect all retailers? As I want my NH1 soon. And what about these sites who claim the pre-order status? How can they be pre-ordering when there is a delay?I believe we can safely take his word, as he represents one of the largest specialty Minidisc distributors in the US. As for the pre-order status on the other sites? It's called b.s.
lsainsbury
What's going on with Hi-MD!!! Come on Sony - pull your ****** out...!! We are all awaiting the next revolution of MD!
konrad
any word about the europe release date? specificily the mznh700? cheers
mp3fan
Maybe listening to initial consumer reaction, Sony is re-doing the firmware to support native MP3 playback. (dreaming on...) Seriously, if Hi-MD units have direct mp3 playback (without transcoding or messy software), I'll order one today.
The_Stamp
here here! me too. that would eliminate having multiple databases of your songs (mp3 and atrac3) as well. if the clie can do it, why not the minidisc?

JD24
Maybe listening to initial consumer reaction, Sony is re-doing the firmware to support native MP3 playback. That would never happen... JD
[StrangeByte]
Yes.. Sony wouldn't spend years and years to develop an own codec (atrac, atrac3, atrac3+) and then just waste it all and add mp3 support.... sony and mp3... well.. maybe on cd-players but not on md. Ivich
Hello, this is in response to what the forum administrator said: "I believe we can safely take his word, as he represents one of the largest specialty minidisc distributors in the US. As for the pre-order status on the other sites? It's called b.s." Why is it that the pre-order of "other sites" is "b.s." compared with the pre-order of Minidisco? Can you be more specific? I was not aware that any other company in the U.S has a greater or lesser ability to supply the product than Minidico, and I don't understand how minidico has the ability to pre-order while the "other sites" are "b.s." I guess I would like you to explain this opinion.
ekiekitabaang
Hmm.. My dream: I hope they will change the copy protection system for self recorded material. (the delayed minidiscs are recording minidiscs) So that if one records an interview, a gig or samples from nature, one could actually been allowed them to be exported out of SonicStage to wavs or something that can actually be used. Otherways these units are completely useless for musicians like me. I would rather buy an Iriver iHP120 which has good recording abilities, no limits whatsoever and can be used like normal USB storage. Anyway this delay will make it very difficult for me to wait anymore for these things to appear somewhere to be tested and this exporting thing to be clarified once and for all. Happy Hopping
I got a wise idea: Let's all go buy the Qualia MD as a temporary soln. while we are waiting for all these delay
