I'm glad I waited to buy the MZ-NH900, because apparently there's a big regional difference to the tune of:

Excellent news. Not only does this promise an upgraded firmware over the other NH900 models, but also guarentees this NH900 will have full 3-line capability with the supplied 40ELK remote, whereas plugging in such remote with other versions of the NH900 would only give you one line of display.

Also, the same goes for the MZ-NH700:

These Japan Edition units will come with Sonicstage 2.1.

..both units are "live" and available internationally @ one of our favorite e-tailers, Audiocubes. More info here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?p...ighlight=#28273

Not sure which firmware upgrades you are referring to, but I bought a NH1 yesterday and the 40EL remote works perfectly in the NH600D. 3-line display, and fully functional. The only thing that doesn't work is that you can't get to the "Menu" from the remote.

If it works with the 600D, I would be betting that it's almost guaranteed to work with other Hi-MD models.

I just ordered an MZ-NH900 and I should get it tomorrow  However, I would love to have the japan edition... Oh well. I'm moving to Japan during mid September, so maybe i'll decide to upgrade or something sometime while i'm there. I swear, if Sharp releases a Hi-MD Auvi player, i'm getting one the second they are released!!! Still, wish I could get this Japan edition... but I can't wait any longer since i'm leaving soon...

Well, didn't take them long for Audiocubes to have these in stock after the release; one of the fastest turn around times I've seen from them, actually.

On to the goods:

As you can see, Audiocubes has made an error with the supplied picture. Do not worry - this unit does indeed come with a 3-line MC40ELK remote. I've already e-mailed them to assure they correct this error. There's also another strange twist; apparently in the description it lists the unit as having a magnesium body. This is a farce and AFAIK it's the same construction as all other NH900's.

While the tourister model is cool and all, I can't spend $400 on just a player... Still gotta buy batteries, decent headphones, microphone, some blanks, a case... I would love the Japanese language ability. But I can just use romaji if i need to. Heck, I still need to order a laptop...

So is this model Eurocrippled?

I have the Japanese nh700 and I absolutely love it!!! I bought mine off ebay about a month ago. The guy who sold it to me told me he was getting a bunch of 40elk's in stock and would be posting them on ebay. Plus, he has all the japanese modles available. The seller is ebay user sell2ppl and he is awsome to deal with. Check him out on ebay. I was quite plealsed with the product and service.

OHHHHHHH!!!!,

new observation!!!! My japanese nh700 has the connecter for the radio tuner remote!!! I don't have one, so I can't test if it works or not, but i bet it will. Now I just have to get over the fact that I paid what I would have paid if i'd just waited to get an nh900....shrug.

upgrade/change the firmware huh.. sounds impressive.. but what if all they did was change some settings to make the units capable of displaying all 3 lines on the remote or make the NH700 compatable with the 3line remote.. just like how someone came up with the hack to add R900 features to other MD models.. there's still time to hack..

Erm, no.

The radio tuner remotes (RM-MC34LT and RM-MC37LT) have a remote plug that is of a slightly different shape than non-tuner remote plugs. They physically will not fit into the remote ports of units without the tuner module.

Even if you modified the plug to fit, the radio would not work.

I saw the 900 and 700 for the first time a few days ago at the Tokyo (Narita) airport, described as "world" or "export" models. I'm not sure if these are in the shops in town, perhaps the 900 but most likely not the 700. The airport shops sometimes have different ones.

What's strange is that as far as I could tell, the 900 had an all magnesium body, not plastic. The 700 had a plastic back, no questions. So are some 900's plastic on the back? The ones I saw (two different units at different shops) seemed to be all metal.

If I am wrong, I am sorry. I never mean to mislead or misinform. I am simply saying what I thought I saw. (I'm a little sensitive at the moment)

Ah, excuse me, but I'm not stupid. I know the difference between the hardware of the 700 and the 800 and I'm saying that MY 700 has a connector that HAS THE EXTRA NOTCHES, resembling that of an Mz-nf800 series HI-MD. So, physically, one of those remotes would, infact, fit into MY mz-nh700. I don't appreciate your tone in response to my observation, especailly when I realize in full competitency what i am saying. If you will read the previous post, I stated that I wasn't even sure if it would work, simply observing the shape of the plug in is the same as the radio plug on the nf series.

I just got my MZNH1 in UK and can honestly say its a sleek looking and sounding piece of kit! The remote is great and the Hi-SP and PCM options are superb. The battery life is equally good and when the unit is on charge, it tells you in minutes how long is left for a full charge. I work for a local sony dealership so if you live in uk (west mids) let me know and I will keep you one by

... my tone? How could you possibly know my tone when it's words on a screen?

I didn't call you stupid. And I surely wasn't intending the remark as a slight against you, merely a method of preventing false information from causing people to go out and buy those insanely expensive remotes for use in units that wouldn't support it.

I wasn't aware that the NH700 had the two small notches in the remote port; all the photos I've seen of the unit show a standard remote port.

Try thinking a little bit before you assume that I'm patronizing you. I'm not, and I don't appreciate being snapped at. :whatever:

Tone is implicit. Tone is also a writing technique. What you say has a connotation and a denotation. When you type "erm, no" it has a connotation of "duh, you are stupid". I would not have made the original post if i diddn't know what I was talking about. Plus, there was expreess emphasis placed upon the word MY. Again MY mz-nh700 has the notches. Enough of this conversation. It has grown silly.

The connector on the NH800 has the extra notches, according to the promo pictures the connector on the NH700 doesn't have them. My NH700 has the connector with the notches. Hmm, could the radio remote work?

I believe there are changes to the main circuit board that allow the radio to actually function in the NHF800. It's much the same with the N610/N510 and the R700/G750.

So, while the remote would probably work, the radio function probably would not.
