Closer examination of the manual indicates that NoCOPY denotes an SCMS issue. The source cd I am trying to record is from live recordings shared over a Bittorent site that I downloaded and converted from FLAC to WAV and then burned to cd. Is there any work around for this?

Today I have been trying to copy a cdr to minidsic using an optical cable from my cd player. I am following the directions but once I start the cd I get the message NoCopy on the minidisc unit. Any suggestions?

Sad to say the Sony store at the Providence Place Mall here in RI closed a couple of months ago.

I have discs with no cases. Anyone have any they would part with? Has anyone picked any of the flipster cases, how are they?

Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. I have an MZ-M100 (same unit). The very 1st thing I did after unwrapping it was to detach the battery cover, evidently much like you did. After a few (maybe 20) minutes I figured out how to reattach. My first panicked thought, though, was I have broken this thing before even getting a chance to use it.

I have the MZ-NF610 and have been completely underwhelmed by the radio. Of the portable options I own it is the worst without question. In addition, I think I read that the radio drains the battery faster than md play. The two other portable radios I own are a Zune 80 and 120 and the Sony SRF-M37W (this is the best unit I have for radio). Before I bought the MZ-NF610 I thought the idea of a radio in the md unit was pretty cool, but reception, for me, hasn't been good and it is very easy to inadvertently hit buttons on the remote while walking. My advice would be to grab a Sony SRF-M37W for portable radio and not let that limit your choice of md unit.

I seem to automatically gravitate to the Sony product. I have read reviews of several brands, not sure who to trust. Has anyone here used this item and were you happy with it? Sorry for the topic title, I don't have an Ipod and plan on using this with minidisc and a Zune.

The Ultimate MD unit sale: The Blue Raja collection

PM sent (earlier today). -
In a perfect world I would have gotten one of the newer Sony DAP's, but, I wanted more capacity. And, with one child in college and another in a private high school I need to dramatically curtail frivolous expense. Zunes with hard drives are, relatively, cheap and likely to get cheaper.

Guilty as charged, I recently (last week) picked an 80 gig Zune. Much easier to get music onto it, although I haven't done anything other than rip cd's to 256K mp3 using the Zune software. Zunes come with pretty much no user manual but it has been pretty straight forward so far. I have just about 12 gigs or 1300 songs from 140 cd's loaded so far. I have not listened to the same piece of music consecutively with any MD vs. the Zune but I don't think I need to, the Zune seems not quite as satisfying soundwise, but not so much as to negate the ability to have so much music in the palm of my hand. I am 53 years old so my hearing is not at all what it was as a teenager. I can be happy with LP2 on the non HiMD units (obviously excluding the Mz-R70). I find it a little frustrating that the NH600D can't play mp3 which must be transcoded via Sonic Stage. I am sure I will continue to use my MD's but right now I am busy with the "new" toy. (One of the reasons I got the Zune 80 was it was cheap since its a discontinued model).

The machine I have that takes the gumstick is the MZ-M100. I bought a GP charger shortly after I got the unit but I had no luck with the two batteries that came with the charger (also GP's). So I charge the battery, put it in the unit and play until discharge. I don't think I'll ever get the 20 or 30 hours of playback that I think was the expectation of the battery when the player was new but I can live with anything over 5-6 hours of battery life.

I purchased 3 GP gumsticks from BatteriesandButter.com a couple of weeks ago. One drawback here is that you have to order a minimum of $20 (which is why I ordered 3 instead of two). It took 3 cycles of charge and discharge to get the battery I opened to hold a charge for a reasonable time. Any suggestions on how to best handle the other two, should I charge and discharge them also or leave them in the packaging until the first battery gives out?

This seems a better deal: http://www.minidiscaccess.com/fc101.html

It took 6 weeks but I got my package from Geordie Kid yesterday. It would have come sooner but I opted for surface mail from the UK to the USA. Thanks Geordie Kid, everything is cleaning up nicely.

Hi Soundbox and welcome. I am sure people with a much deeper background than me will be offering their insights shortly. Like you I started with what I think is now referred to as legacy MD. In the last couple of years I have moved up to HiMD. The biggest advantage to me is the ability to put so much more music onto a single disc, either regular or 1 gig. As you read here at the forum about the different bit rates available you may, like me, get a bit of a headache. I think if you study the list of md equipment here (http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-R50.html) you will find there are quite a few options to replace your r50, and I think you will be able to do so pretty cheaply. I don't have a deck so I can't comment on that at all. I think the biggest frustration you will find is that Sony was so close to having a great product but they purposefully kept it proprietary and needlessly quirky. If you are looking simply to replace your r50n it will be pretty easy. If you are thinking of getting a HiMD or netMD, get ready for a Sonic Stage headache. There's a little bit of a learning curve but there is a lot of info and lot of people who will help.

Hope you find what you are looking for. Myself, I have a hard enough time with gumstick batteries, wouldn't want to be dealing with the built in battery here.

I have had a pair of Sennheiser PXC 250's that I have been pretty happy with, although the extra cord due to the battery pack can be annoying. But since I am often using the phones in public I do use the noise canceling quite a bit. For my home system I just got Grado 325i's, the first piece of home equipment I have sprung for in quite awhile.

Live Recording Using MD and Transferring To CD
Tom in RI replied to Samantha D.'s topic in Live Recording
If you ever see one cheap you might consider an HHB Burnit which has the primary advantage of accepting both music and data cdr's. I've had the HHB Burnit 830 for quite awhile and have been very happy with it. -
That's pretty cool.

When MZ-N10's pop up on ebay is it reasonable to assume that the built in battery is dead or on its last legs? Are replacements available?
-
As I mentioned in another thread, I have been listening mostly to a Sharp IM-DR420 which I picked up reasonably cheap on ebay last year (one went for $81 as a new in box unit last week on ebay). I prefer it's sound to the MZ-R700 that I own.

Sent a pm, thanks for your consideration.

I have been listening lately to a Sharp IM-DR420H which I snagged on ebay last year for pretty cheap. Maybe I am just a sucker for marketing hype but I do like the sound as compared to my Sony units. I see there is an MD-DS33-A on ebay now I am considering. Does anyone here have any experience with this unit?
