Jim is a beast.. I think i should ask him to take a look at a dead NH900 ..could be worth a check.AS i can´t get further with it than i am now. Great posting btw.. and most of all very good work by Jim

Afaik every Soundcard works internally in 48khz. So downsampling it to 44,1khz to match something is afaik not always the best if it can´t be changed it don´t matter that much, does it ? Type-S should improve Playback on LP tracks.Nothing more.Otherwise its the same as Type-r

i got some of that type.why can´t you use another one.. it should make no difference i think.

Stationary ATRAC vs. portable ATRAC - differences?
punkrockaddict replied to MDietrich's topic in Minidisc
if a Hi-md Deck would behave the same way it would only affect Hi-Md modes ( Hi-Sp, Hi-LP) And i never recorded something in these codecs.Only PCM of course. So that wouldn´t be that important, at least to me. And i lack a Hi-Md Deck too Did anybody try to listen to the difference Deck type-r and portable type-r ? I didn´t have the time till now.Think i´ll check at the weekend. Afaik not. But you could get any remote from sony minidisc decks and use instead of the roiginal one. they do work.. just not the special featured buttons as theyx were only on the original remotes. -
Stationary ATRAC vs. portable ATRAC - differences?
punkrockaddict replied to MDietrich's topic in Minidisc
Should i be surprised? Although i didn´t ever notice the note in the manual ( because i don´t read them ) i did not think this would have happen. But one thing is unclear to me. If i record with the DR580 connected to its ac power adapter is the recording also worse compared to the Deck? I like playing with these stationary portables and i think i did record some albums this way. But most of all i record PCM when using portables.. But this is as exciting as it seems .. nice to know there´s so much difference. Thanks for your great job -
iam not sure wether we will or won´t be surprised by the result- I could guess a small advantage by the Deck. Anybody else thinks so ? But if the were on the same performance line.. wouldn´t that be fantastic too.? I send the Test recording out so in a couple of days I`ll probably know more ;-)

punkrockaddict replied to qualia017's topic in Minidisc
Wth you actually got a Qualia Minidisc in that Picture.I can´t believe it.. this si the firtst time i see its package I dissasembled my E10 too... it didn´t worlk anymore.. no charge nothing. To my shame i didn´t fix it and its not put together too since some 6 months or so :X I think i ned help by rearranging the parts. I think you could give me advice, don´t you ? -
HI.. Just send me the file and i´ll be glad to record it with a JB930QS. The Soundcard iam currently uisng in my HTPC is an Audigy4.. so 24 bit is no problem at all. I already recorded a file to test the DAC´s between the JB930 and the JB980. Same way as you described..It was a 24/48 file from Yello.Oh yeah Is that a good choice to test with ? I send you a PM with Email if youo like

I edited my drivers the first time some years ago to match my recorders. I remember that i tried a couple of times to get the Aiwa unit working but it doesn´t. Alright i got it. Now it **does** work You should edit the .inf filr in the win7 and 64 bits section with that line %NETMDUSB.DeviceDesc%=NETMDUSB.Dev, USBVID_054C&PID_014C ; AM-NX9 It was simply missing all the time. Although been fitted to win2k and so on it couldn´t work until this line is inserted in the Win7 64 bit section. See it didn´t work before.I told you So just edit teh .inf before you push it into the download section. I´ll see if i can get some more sharp VID .. greet Yea i read that and i tested ´em too. The Ids are the same in all these versions so the will work on either 32 and 64 bits... for sure. What is different from mine -> - Sony DN430/NF520 - 054c:00ca same as NE410 - Sony MZ-RH710; 054C 0186 same as NH600 is typed DH710 for whatever reasons. To have the List complete some could edit the names.Of course this won´t add any devices for sure.I just saw the .inf looks different from mine

this Kenwood will work for sure as it uses the same driver as the DR 80 and so on. Hey Stephen were these the files i posted u fitted in ? I didn´t try on my sys (win7 64) but i will be testing in a couple of days. Last time i used these Sharp´s to record via Usb is very long ago.Think these were the days when i was iusing xp Greetings to all of you edit i assume they will work on both 32 and 64 bit versions. Alright DR580 and DR410 do work. What bothers me is that i can´t use the Aiwa AM-NX9. I tried to figure out why it don´t work a long time ago.Now that i´ve updated again it still don´t work. I assume its the wrong Vid for the Unit.Anybody out there who could check ?

They should work with SS . I did not test all of them as i don´t have all these machines. In the German MInidisc forum there´s a thread about the usb vid´s. I think the RH1 survives quite a lot. I don´t know how many stage diving attempts i did wirth the recorder clipped on my belt in that hi-md pocket.it recorded without any flaws. that´s what i experienced at least

imho the sb x-fi crystalizer enhances the sound a bit.Ok you need the x-fi card for that but i don´t think this is any worse to the sound. Marlene can you say something about it ? i used to use this on a x-fi xtreme gamer proi version that i don´t use atm. sadly the card in my htpc is an audigy 4 in whose drivers respective hardware that can´t be enabled. I thought the only good way way to get better sound through hardware, isn´t it ?

Sony MDS-JE780 C13 Read Error - Disc not spinning
punkrockaddict replied to zokuchou's topic in Minidisc
Doesn´t it make any sound ?Mine did make some squirrling sounds.. i once repaired a C13 failure on a JE^480 Deck. It was not easy to locate the failure. Fortunately i had a 2nd JE480 to compare to.It was nothing more than the position of the plate where the disc sits on and gets driven from. It was a little bit too low compared to the other Deck.I took it some mm up and it spinned the disc again and works flawlessly till now. From the Motor there goes the pin up and on top is the plate.Maybe this could fix your C13 too but i am unsure as i can´t hear any comparable noises in your video. just try.. btw this ain´t a JE470.It has the "netMd" on the front so this must be a JE780. -
Transferring MDs to PC via USB 2.0 (?) port
punkrockaddict replied to ville900's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Hi there´s a cheap but time intensive way in playing them back with a player and record them onto your Pc. And there´s the elegant but expensive way in buying a RH1 and transfer the Mds via upload. This can only be done with exact that model. What amount of Mds you´re talking about? Maybe somewbody would do you a favour and upload em for you. I could do this but not with very many discs.. -
What is a top notch remote with backlight?
punkrockaddict replied to Happy Hopping's topic in Minidisc
the answer is jut : no the 40EL is the top of the line remote. Maybe you want to get me yours? i could give you a good 38EL for it.. -
nobody should keep theirs just for transfering in my opinion.it´s my concert recorder .. that´s what it was meant to be. ok i got 4 of them but its a recorder as i whished i had in the early nineties.. so why just keep them for transfering? i don´t get this^^ i suppose there´s not half as much ppl as you think that want to transfer SP recorded Mds to their library..

What is a top notch remote with backlight?
punkrockaddict replied to Happy Hopping's topic in Minidisc
as far as i know there are no 3rd party devices. good luck on buying a 4oEL they will be pretty expensive as i think- try cleaning the socket with contact spray ..afterwards you can use a cottonbud to get out the dirt. -
What is a top notch remote with backlight?
punkrockaddict replied to Happy Hopping's topic in Minidisc
Although i do not often use remotes i usually use the 38EL. But the 40EL from the NH1 4 ex is also pretty nice. That´s the 3 line u mean. I could sell a 38EL .. i got many of these -
Sony MZ-RH1 Jog Lever Problem Solved?
punkrockaddict replied to jim.hoggarth's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Hi JIm. great to read that news,I was always lucky with "tuner 600" spray until now.I onve had a RH1 with that problem where a small copper plate, possibly from the isolation on the back? went inside the switch.I could get it out and it was still unusable. After some spraying with tuner 600 and up-downs it is fine till now. btw did you ever manage to get out the display itself? i tried but gave up and iam still searching for a battery door for one of my RH1´s -
Best MD Unit to buy with Optical in and takes AA HI-MD
punkrockaddict replied to oroville's topic in Minidisc
of course you can directly drop mp3 files onto 2nd gen himd portables. All you have to do is to change the import settings to "as is" and you´re off. as for the sound quality i cannot say that much because i am used to listen to atrac more than mp3. i would recommend the NH600 for that purpose. I just got my 3rd and hacked all stuff you can get in the service menu.- 15 replies

i once bought a used NH600 where the head was missing at all. I had to laugh what was going on before that expensive? what amount were talking about o.O?

in case you didn´t know... i recommend using a dishwasher for cleaning. i´ve tried many times and it works very well.it even removes some sticky residue from old Mds. don´t try this @ home if your washer has no eco programm.think its 35°C. afterwards i dry them with a micro towel and let them dry on a shelf in the sun. strange to imagine but its all good.
