  1. Yes. I almost forgot to mention that in addition to the supplied Hi-MD that 5 NIP (new, sealed) Hi-MDs are also included with both the RH1 and the NH1 which are also up for sale.
  2. Well, I have to say that while I am not necessarily leaving the MD/Hi-MD community, I do need to unload some of my arsenal and I start this with the incomparable Made In Japan MZ-NH1 Hi-MD Walkman. You already know how it works, with everything in the pics the supplied RM-MC40ELK LCD remote) Comes complete with everything it came with here as shown in the pics down below, SOLD.. BTW, it also has on the face of it the Sun Microsystens icon on it, and that is partly the reason for the price reduction. PayPal only please.
  3. Well, I have to say that while I am not necessarily leaving the MD/Hi-MD community, I do need to unload some of my arsenal and I start this with the incomparable MZ-RH1 Hi-MD Walkman. You already know how it works, but also to sweeten the deal, I am also throwing in an extra RM-MC21 non-LCD remote (to go with the supplied RM-MC38EL LCD remote) and also a pair of unused Sony MDR-E888SP earphones. Comes complete with everything it came with here as shown in the pics down below, for only SOLD, and this price also includes CONUS/Canada shipping. You'll never find it at a lower price anywhee, not even on eBay. PayPal only please.
  4. I already have done 64kbps Atrac3plus and I agree, in fact, I did do a head-to-head iPod vs. Hi-MD comparison a few weeks ago, and indeed 64kbps Atrac3plus sounds so much better than 64kbps MP3. The only reason I even got a damn iPod nano 6G in the first place was a mere matter of convenience, I can clip 16GB worth of files onto my shirt collar, hook up a FiiO L3 LOD-to-mini jack to a FiiO E5 headphone amp and have it all at my disposal and all on my shirt collar to use any IEM's or cans of any impedence up to 300 ohms that I want instead of having a 20GB brick with my RM-MC40ELK remote and being able to only use either IEM's or buds becuase it only generates a very weak 5 mW from its internal amp. I even tried to use the E5 amp with my 40ELK and the remote sets the unit to the default headphone out instead on line out, you can't use both a remote and line out together on the HD5, and since the nano is the same size as the 40ELK remote, and can handle 16GB on its own in its tiny form factor, it made an even more attractive draw. Don't get me wrong Steve, I still use good-old MiniDisc SP stereo for everything else, including in both my rides, in HMW Studio One, recording LIVE shows, and at home as well. I would never trade any of that in for having to rely exclusively on an iPod for being the "be-all-end-all which does everything" as opposed to a mere matter of portability, something that would be compromised if I had to use Hi-MD or an HD5 and be called "being behind the times" or "hick" by my friends.
  5. Thanks Steve, in that case, would I be able to eventually convert my master MD's (after uploading them straight and unconverted to SS CP 4.2 using my MZ-RH1, like I used to do to eventually use them on my NW-HD5) to 64kbps MP3 to use on my nano through iTunes? It would save me the headache and wasted time of having to burn CDs of all of my MD mixdiscs (over 100 of them, either 75+ minute super-compilations or vinyl recorded onto MD, all in SP mode of course) In other words, I don't want to finish recording my final 75+ minute mixdisc only to then have to waste yet another 75+ minutes burning a CD of it afterwards, I just want to know if there is some software I can use to convert from ATRAC SP in SS to 64kbps MP3 to eventually use on iTunes and still not have any compatibility issues. My idea: MD ATRAC SP > rip to SS CP 4.2 straight > covert to 64kbps MP3 in SS > transfer to iTunes > drag and drop on to my nano Thanks
  6. Hey guys, I own both Sony and Apple players, and I was wondering if it is possible (through SonicStage CP 4.2) to transfer files from my collection of Hi-MDs, all cnverted to 64k ATRAC3plus, and convert them all to 64k MP3 files after uploading the Hi-MD content to SS, so I can use them with iTunes in its "drag-&-drop" style? Or did Sony make SonicStage so proprietary that I could never get them off SonicStage for use with iTunes no matter how I convert them? I have had to go through the (pre SS 3.4/MZ-RH1) B.S. of burning CDs of all of my finished MD mixes, something my MZ-RH1 relieved me of doing, therfore cutting time in half, before uploading those for use with iTunes and I was just wondering if I can upload either MD or Hi-MD files and then use SS t convert from 64k ATRAC3plus to 64k MP3 so I can use them on iTunes to then upload onto my nano 6G? It would save me the wasted time of having to rip CDs (in real time) of all of my finished MD mix discs, just like I had when I used my NW-HD5 or my arsenal of Hi-MD Walkmen (I still own them). Thanks
  7. Hi guys, this is the first time in quite a while that I've been on the SI forums and I noticed under the 'minidisc' forums that the selection for the 'Hi-MD' subforum has been removed, why??? Perhaps maybe sfbp (Steve just across the Peace Arch up in Vancouver, BC) or someone could explain to us Hi-MD users why that subforum has been removed from the SI forums, because it was full of great 411 about our units as well as a great troubleshooting board for all of us owners. I used it as well to find out about how to apply the volume hack on my 2 MZ-RH710 units (and all 3 generations of Hi-MD - MZ-NHx, MZ-RHx, and MZ-Mx units for that matter) I imported from the UK.
  8. Dude, you forgot to mention it would do the same on the RH710 as well, If you had the choice of either the DH710, or the RH710, I'd take the RH710 anyday because of its additional line/optical input and remote/phones jack, two items the DH710 lacks, but you do have to do the volume hack on the RH710 as it is an EU/UK-only unit.
  9. I own two of them, both bought in 2007 on eBay, one I bought from a UK-based pawn shop for 80 USD, and it came with (supplied) MDR-E808LP earphones and the English user manual, as well as a deadstock one, NIB, complete for about 200 USD, also from the UK, both in black. I then applied the volume hack on both, and also bought 2 RM-MC60 remotes with included free MDR-E808SP earbuds in the same deal (from MiniDisc Access), and also 2 RM-MC55ELK LCD remotes (one on eBay and one from a former member of the old MDCF) and 2 pairs of MDR-EX85SL IEM's as well (both IEM's were bought from eBay user "buyfromjapan"), and yes, they too, are all black as well. The players have some very minor scuff marks (on the glossy surface) but are well stored in padded cases as I speak, one of them (the used one) is used with my all-gloss/matte black set of Rollerblade inline skate gear, hence why I don't use my other players with this specific setup.
  10. I still use MiniDisc (and to some extent Hi-MD just not as much as I used to) at home, in studio, and also in my rides, and as much as my management wants me to "keep up with the times" and get an (rival player censored), iDon't (spelled that way intentionally) think so...... I have THE best alternative to those other MP3 players, and that is my 3 (that's right, count it, 3) NW-HD5 Network Walkmen. Now I know what some will say, "20 gigs? Oh, that's nothing compared to my (rival player censored)", but I've got news for them, at least MY HD5 allows me to work with my many MD's/Hi-MD's in SonicStage in conjunction with my 3 RH1's and SonicStage CP 4.2 Now many of you already know about the ATRAC/SonicStage-compatbility of both the RH1 and HD5, and because of it I can use my RH1 to load my MD's onto SS CP 4.2 and then from there onto my HD5, and the SQ is SO much better than anything an (rival player consored) can ever put out. As for the SCMS/DRM issues with Sony, I felt they (Sony) were pressured by both the RIAA and others to cease production of both the MD/Hi-MD players and their respective blank media, because they KNOW that most of us on this forum already own either an M-AUDIO CO-3 SCMS override box, or a professional series MD or CD recorder, which BTW does not recognize nor encode SCMS or any other copyguard out there. For those of us who still use (and enjoy) MD and Hi-MD, I suggest an all-out assault of eBay and whatever sites out there, in order to gather up the remaining stock of MD's (and their players/recorders and accessories, especially the RH1/M200) ASAP, so then that way, when Sony shuts us out and we have our full stock of car/home/pro/portable units and media that we on this board can call ourselves an (almost) exclusive club in which members would sware under oath to uphold the integrity of the format and its codec with our battle cry of these three simple words......."ATRAC OR DEATH!!!"
  11. Hi guys, As you all well know, The MZ-NH1 (made in Japan) is one of the most sought-after MD/Hi-MD recorders in the business as well as one of the best sounding ever put out. But, along with all the other legacy and Hi-MD Walkmen I own, I already have three RH1's (in black) and three NW-HD5 Silver HDD Walkmen as well, and I really wanted to add two more NH1's to go along with the one I currently have, but, I have been severely under-employed since being laid-off last year at my old job at the recycling center here in Port Townsend, as commodity prices for recycling goods has plummeted way down the past 2 years. There is only one drawback in the unit, which is in otherwise terrific condition, and that is that it has a Sun Microsystems logo on the face of the unit itself (I bought it on eBay for $375.00 USD plus shipping just a few weeks back), and the original earphones were not included, but that part is moot point, as I happened to use either my MDR-EX90SL IEM's or my MDR-D777SL cans with it when I tested it. Everything else it came with is included in the price. I am willing to part with it for $325.00 USD including CONUS/Canada shipping, and yes, I do take PayPal and am anxiously awaiting your PM's. My PayPal and e-mail address is Warrior@BIGHMW.com Pics of the unit will be up soon
  12. That would be from his Electro/Dance period (1984-1990), with various different versions of "19" on all sorts of Paul Hardcastle-related 'best of' CDs and with remixes and various 12" versions of them as well. As for "Rainforest", that is off of his Rain Forest LP (1984) as well as on Zero One (1985), and also various 12" versions and on 'best of' CDs as well. You can also find newer versions on both Hardcastle 1 (1993) (a new age version) and also on Hardcastle III (2002) (a smooth jazz version).
  13. Well, it's up there for all of you, so vote!
  14. I have the 1987 CD master of Abbey Road, and also the 1993 issues of both 1962-1966 and 1967-1970, and I think that they are just perfect the way they are, WTH is it with bands/record companies constantly remastering the recordings of albums every 3-4 years worth???? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! I can't believe that The Beatles have now gotten themselves into the hell otherwise known as the "loudness wars". Right now, John Lennon and George Harrison (R.I.P. to both you are dearly missed) are rolling over in their respective graves over all of this garbage, LEAVE THE SOUND THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED TO BE!!!
  15. Well fellow MD freaks, As I am sure all of you probably know by now, prices on 5-packs of blank MD and Hi-MD have skyrocketed as much as their pre-recorded versions have. I have noticed Amazon.com wants $46.00 for a 5-pack of legacy MDs and MiniDisco no longer carries neither MDs nor Hi-MDs in stock anymore, and MiniDisc access is running way low on their stock. Even our neighbors north of the 49th at MiniDisc-Canada.com (now known as Pause Play Stop) seem to be the only source for blanks right now, so to all of you guys who are not eBay users, the time has officially come to buy, buy, buy!!! However I am already prepared for the worst, as I have more than a few-hundred blank legacy Sony Premium Gold MDs (new and sealed!!!)in my BIGHMW.com Media Vault, as well as the about 150+ that are currently in use now all I have to do is stock up on the second-generation (HMD1GL, the blue ones) blank Hi-MDs as well. I am ready for this. the 11th Hour of MD/Hi-MD..... are you?
  16. I wish the two were fully compatible with each other, but knowing how Sony is we will never see MD and Hi-MD would be able to be used with something other than SonicStage. But then again we will also never be able to witness things like a pro/home/car Hi-MD deck, or whether or not you can transfer MDs to other non-Sony/non-ATRAC PMPs/DAPs, because Sony is so paranoid-psychotic about protecting its "rights" or its infamous DRM when it comes to being able to transfer MD/Hi-MDs to more iPod/MP3-friendly software like iTunes or other MP3 software of that nature so you can use those players (even Sony's own NW-Z/X-series DAPs won't work with MD masters) in case of an upgrade. When it comes to interchangeable media, yes nothing will ever beat MD or its infinite editing and recording capabilities, something no MP3 player will ever have, period, but this is 2010 in less than 2 days from now, but it seems like to too many folks that MD in this day and age is kind of like continuing to download Cindy Margolis when her prime has passed her years ago (I admit, I am guilty of still doing that, as I have legitimate reasons to having gone to high school with her in 1983-84), but I guess if I was to quote an album title of how great MD is/was in its prime, it's kind of like what The Moody Blues would say as them being "Days Of Future Passed", and those times have passed us all by. Yes, I will still continue to use MD as may master recording source for my mix MDs and other items, but eventually, if my lineup of MD gear ever dies on me (I will prevent that from happening at any cost), I will have to burn CD-Rs of my MD mixes and store the MD masters in my BIGHMW.com media vault and use the CD-Rs to upload for future use on a more widely-accepted MP3 player. But, if anything goes wrong with my player or if it gets stolen, or even if I have a change of heart, will always have the MD masters and the CD copies of them as well.
  17. It's things like the scenario the topic starter has that makes me glad that I have BOTH my master MD's of all of my compilations as well as CD-R copies of them (I own pro decks like the HHB CDR-850 and also the Sony MDS-E10 so I can do them with no SCMS or DRM to worry about), as well as the master CDs/LPs/tapes they were recorded from. I always knew that things like this would happen, but you are not the only one, many iTunes (yuck!) users have also been screwed over with a similar problem, yes even the most "convenient" players and their proprietary software systems have frustrated all of us. For instance if you are on Head-Fi.org you are not allowed to in any shape or form discuss what I am doing here on this particular board (I am glad Chris lets us do that here much to Sony's shagrin). I also have been advised by the folks at Mobile Radio in Brenerton, WA, just 50 miles south of me here at BIGHMW.com Headquarters here in Port Townsend that I should back up my MD masters, in which most of them have been done already(before obtaining my first [and still working] MZ-RH1 of a total of 3 of them and also upgrading to SS CP 4.2 in my PC) due to the use of older versions of SonicStage software and my MZ-NH700 as my main Hi-MD driver and player, so I am preparing for the worst, I have already looked into getting a newer, higher-speed PC with a larger hard drive and that will run on Windows XP Professional OS as to not compromise my current software and its lack of or questionable compatibility with getting a Windows 7 PC. I have also stocked up on MD/Hi-MD/NW-HD home/pro/car players/recorders/decks so I can keep on using my now-700+ MDs and 50+ Hi-MDs (most of them are still sealed and more of coming) for a good long time to come.
  18. In case anybody doesn't know, I own no less than three MZ-RH1 units to go along with my somewhat massive collection of MD/Hi-MD units.
  19. Hey guys, you can still get an RH1..... in silver, from Audio Cubes II, here is the link: http://www.audiocubes2.com/category/MiniDisc/product/Sony_MZ-RH1_Hi-MD_Recorder.html You can also find them on eBay from eBay seller "buyfromjapan". I have dealt with them for the majority of my remotes and short-corded headphones and IEM's, and they have always made me glad to have chosen them compared to other sellers. Forget the cost, it is because it is being shipped from Japan, and they ship via EMS express mail service from Japan in conjunction with your local postal service where you live. I have dealt with Audio Cubes before and they make sure that you are not only get your order fast, but also that you are happy with it. If you ask me, the silver units from Japan are more high-tech looking, very sleek and oh, how sexy compared to classic black. BTW, they both operate the same, the only differences I can think of between a JP version of the RH1 and the ones for the rest of the world maybe just simply be a language barrier as well as that they come with the Japan-market version of SonicStage, and maybe a japanese user manual. But other than that, that's about it.

    FS: Mz-M200

Indeed it does. Just this morning I checked out Amazon.com, and the prices of a 5-pack of Sony Premium Gold Series blank MiniDiscs went up from $16.00 to almost $40.00 per 5-pack. It's a good thing I got my blank arsenal stocked up last week. The same thing has skyrocketed for players and recorders too, I wouldn't doubt if the RH1, the consumer identical twin version of the M200 has also gone up as well. Good thing I got my 3 RH1 units earlier this past year. Better start snagging up whatever remaining blanks and recorders and players (both MD and Hi-MD) there are left, I'll bet by the 1st of the new year that players will carry a premium price tag nearly twice their original MSRP.
  21. Yes. The 2nd Generation Hi-MD's (#HMD1GL) are improved over their O.G. versions, and also they don't come in too big of a case (the now-traditional slide case as opposed to the bigger O.G. hinge case), but also I have been a stickler for both quality and also for having a consistant batch of blank media, instead of having a few from here, and a few from there, plus, you know what you're gonna get out of them when you record/play/upload/download them.
  22. I myself acquired 120 more new blank MD's this past week. I amk currently stocking up on the Premium Gold Series MD's making my total of MD's (both recorded and blank) almost 800 total. As for the Hi-MD's I will hopefully reach 100-120 Hi-MD blanks (all HMD1GL, 2nd generation) by early next year, but as mentioned, you won't find blanks even at places that were for years reliable and dedicated to MD like MiniDisco, and MiniDisc Access. Even Sony no longer manufactures them, check out Amazon.com, under "Discontinued by manufacturer" it states "Yes". They are still available on Amazon.com, but supplies are limited and getting lower as I am writing this. This is the 11th Hour for MiniDisc, and all of us should act and scrounge up any and every blank we can find, even if they are used on eBay, because NIB MDs are getting harder and harder to find, so get 'em now before they are gone for good!!!
  23. You Might want to let him know, that the RH1's on eBay or even from other sites are running at over-inflated prices, and that for less he could get an MZ-M200, which both does and is the exact same thing as the RH1 only without the big $$$ tag. It even comes with the ECM-DS70P one-point stereo microphone included in the deal. You can get the M200 at either MiniDisco.com, the former MiniDisc Canada, Musician's Friend.com, Guitar Center.com, or even the very same place I bought my current MZ-RH1, B & H Photo-Video, but I recommend buying new MD/Hi-MD blanks on eBay, as many of the afore-mentioned stores are completely sold out of blanks, there are plenty of merchants I deal with on eBay that still have TONS of blank legacy MD's and Hi-MD's
  24. I most recently picked up a Sony DSC-W290 12.1 megapixel Cyber-shot camera (on Amazon.com) to replace/upgrade from my venerable DSC-P73 4.1 megapixel camera I got 5 years ago (on eBay). I haven't used it yet, as I just got it on Monday, and not all of the extras have come in yet, but I can't wait to get my hands on them, so I can use this powerful bad boy, as I am very impressed with most of the reviews on it despite not having used it yet. I got mine in silver, along with a case, extra battery (NP-FG1, the one which displays the actual time of life left in minutes on it), and a 4 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, but do any of you own one of them as well as I do? And if so, which color? The come in silver, bronze, black, and blue. I got silver to go along with my NW-HD5 HDD Walkman, which is also silver.
  25. Hey dude, a big shoutout from here in Port Townsend, just a 50-mile drive (and a Bainbridge Ferry ride) from Seattle. You have finally arrived to the best site on the planet, especially when it comes to MiniDisc/Hi-MD. Welcome, and make yourself at home and be known as well.
