This has nothing to do with ATRAC or SonicStage and I hope this is ok to post here. When I open Internet Explorer, it just freezes. So I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and internet explorer won't even show up there (can't close internet explorer that is not working unless I restart the computer)... I tried uninstalling and installed again, but I still get the same problem. Anyone knows how to fix this? Note: I really don't want to format the hard drive... It will take ages to move songs from my CDs... and album arts also... I am using Firefox at this moment, but I really need Internet Explorer since not all the Asian sites support Firefox... Thanks a lot.

When using MDR-NC022 headphone, I also find hiss whether NC feature is on or off; however, I find that hiss is reduced with other headphones like MDR-EX90SL though the hiss is still there but reduced. It is really good to hear that NW-E010 series does not have much hiss as NW-S700 series. I really hope that Sony will fix this issue in their S series. NC is very useful feature though... especially if you travel a lot via plane. Oh and I like Sony's Jog Shuffle which I hope they will implement on their E series again and keep it on S series as well. It is really useful and easy to use.

Following two sites claim that NW-E010 series uses OLED/OEL. SONY UK ATRACLIFE That's odd though... Because many sites says NW-E010 series uses OLED/OEL while some others say it uses LCD... Is it possible some sites just confuse the display is LCD because it is color? Because many thinks if the display is color then it has to be LCD while it does not have to be. Anyways, I always thought NW-E010 series uses same display as NW-S700 series. But then Sony Canada and Sony Hong Kong says it uses LCD while Sony UK says it's OLED/OEL... Sony needs to work on their product information in all regions. Sony USA still says that NW-S700 series has rotating display... I can't believe people for Sony are getting paid for their false work. By looking at your first picture, your player displaying time, it seems like LCD. Because the all the display seems to be lighted; if the display were OLED then only the numbers would light up and not the surrounding (since LCD uses backlight while OLED/OEL does not use backlight). Bottom line, Sony needs to get their work together.

NW-E010 series uses OLED not LCD. Anyways, it's good to hear the player is nice and you like it This player looks really good in black and I really like Sony's stick model players like E and S series. Thanks for the review.

PMX-M70 looks like more of a video player, which looks nice though. Personally, I don't like PMX-U50 design... And somehow I can sense that PMX-U50 is only for China. Also, why top and bottom are skip and right and left are fast forward/reverse? In my opinion, they should be all under right and left direction, where click is skip and holding key down is fast forward. Anyways, these two players do not seem to be Walkman.

I really don't see a reason to drop ATRAC. Why should it be all or none? I believe supporting all kinds of format is the best option.

Thanks for the review. Are you sure NW-A800 series support WAV? Because Japanese Sony site says it supports MP3, AAC, ATRAC, ATRAC Advanced Lossless and WMA but does not mention linear PCM. Thanks.

You have to set to transfer music "as is." Then you will be transferring songs without transcoding. Clict tool box, then select option to transfer music "as is." I am not sure how it is exactly written in English because I am using Japanese SonicStage. The option should give you an explanation like "transfer music as is (MP3 to MP3 or WMA to WMA=no transcoding)."

Well, if you understand Japanese, then you can sign up and use it... You can access eyevio.jp from outside of Japan.

First of all, NW-S600, NW-S700 and NW-A800 series support Atrac Advanced Lossless playback. When you transfer Atrac Lossless from computer to your player "file as is" then you will be transferring Atrac Advanced Lossless to your player and the player will play Atrac Lossless. However, if the player do not support Atrac Lossless playback, then the SonicStage will transfer the pre-specified bit-rate you set for the Atrac lossless. The reason for specifying the bit-rate for Atrac Advanced Loss is to save time if you were to transfer that bit rate files. For example, if you set option to transfer file as 352kbps and if the Atrac Advanced Lossless is set to have 352kbps then the file will be transferred without coding again, thus saves a lot of time. If you set to transfer "file as is", then the SonicStage will transfer file as Atrac Advanced Lossless, and the player will be playing Atrac Advanced Lossless, not 352kbps.

You need not worry about 漢字, since the player displays Japanese... though I am not sure about some characters, since some are simplified in China and some are different in Japan or Korea though they all have same meaning... But, if you follow Shinji's advice, I don't think you will have a problem.

Oh... very nice. You should write reviews for NW-S600/700 and NW-A800 series as well

I am also going to wait until later this year for more new line ups. By the way, I now know that A, S and E stands for Advanced, Specialized and Entry, respectively, then is B for Basic? And, DSP, thanks for the review!

Try NW-S703 with different headphones, you will find the great reduction in hiss. I tried my friends NW-A800 and found out both players, NW-A800 and NW-S700, are both very quite when tried with MDR-EX90. It seems like, MDR-NC022 generates much hiss while other headphones do not.

I don't think Sony should ever drop ATRAC. It is true that ATRAC is not widely used among general public, but it is in fact widely used among Walkman users. It will be better for Sony to support many types of formats, like they are currently doing. So, the Atraclife should also prevail.

Maybe it is not the faults in player itself but due to the headphones with heavy connecting point from extension cord. Possibly due to this constant weight or frequently pulling by it, the left headphone may have been damaged; considering, the player played fine when used other headphones. I really think Sony should provide clip for the extension cord so the constant pulling and discomfort on left ear can be fixed and possibly prevent left headphone from getting damaged, i.e. Audiotechnica provided clip for the extension cord.

I was thinking it will be nice to share my personal favorite musics and get to know musics around the world. So, please share your personal favorite music with Music Videos (MV or PV). Thanks. One of my favorite song and the PV for it is 鼓動(Kodou) by DIR EN GREY. 鼓動 PV I hope there wasn't any other thread like this.

Does your MP3 files have DRM on them?

I think it is worth it. Because, you also get Noise canceling feature and the player is much smaller than PSP. But, if video is must have function then maybe NW-A800 series might be for you.

It may be an old news but I just realized that they are selling this in US sonystyle.com

If the HDD based Walkman were to come out, it would probably A series(?) It will be nice to download Casino Royale, music videos and library of musics in addition to have higher bit rate files. Personally, I am more interested in their S series in future... I can't wait to see what the new feature would be included. Current S700 series with built-in Noise Cancellation feature was really nice. Maybe for the next S series, the built in bluetooth and NC feature for earbud type headphones will be awesome.

Hi Shinji, I know that you wrote briefly about the sound difference between NW-A800 and NW-S700F. But as for what I know, you used two different headphones for two devices. If you are not busy, could you try again two players with same headphone (one that is supplied from NW-A800). Because, by using different headphones, it adds another factor that contributes for the sound difference. Thank you. Oh, I had another question. Is it possible to extract PV (from DVD) by using ImageConverter 3? Because I have alot of PVs from singles and limited version album CDs I collected so far, and it would be very nice to watch PVs on NW-A800 with superb sound quality. Thank you, again.
