Interesting review on Amazon for the A806. Should have come to ATRAClife! http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000OLT...iews1.s=SUCCESS

The NWA-3000 out of the list, as I haven't had much experience of the other units. In fact i may get one of these as they are going quite cheap now. Good SQ, lovely design, remote control unit. Con: Display not visible in daylight, but i can live with that!

Thank you. Welcome to atracLIFE. The Cheque's in the Post

I'm Old Skool in that I only interested in a phone as a phone, and a MP3 player for music. There are some phones on the market that hold 1000 songs , but they hold no attraction for me. As for SQ, you'll be hard pushed to beat the NW-A8XX series
-
Thats a great point, and to be fair to Ipod users, is one that they may have considered. The convience of having 30GB of space could be more important then SQ, or to most users the SQ is good enough. I have had a Ipod, and even my friends who love them agree that the SQ is not all that.

Thanks for kinds words. I've never listened to the S7 series, but I do like the sound and look of the A800 series. I would love to see pictures of cases for this player! -

Welcome to ATRAClife STAN STAN. Nice pics. I've never owned a HD 5. What's the SQ like? Is this your only player/recorder? -
Sony NW-A8XX Series carrying cases
Old skool D replied to Old skool D's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Thanks for the Compliment. I've taken a few more photos( still don't think their the best quality) to showcase the unit, and the case. The case is excellent, and as you mentioned the lid has a magnet attached that keeps the lid in place. You can acess the buttons via the case, except for the hold button( which is the black button on the back of the unit, right side). To access this, you have to slide the unit out of the case. The belt buckle attches, but I'd be wary of usuing this all the time in the rush hour in London. The unit itself is excellent. GREAT sound quality, smart graphic, well made. My only gripe is that I wish( like an ipod) that it would automatically syns with SS, and update tracks that you added to SS, without creating duplicates( maybe I'm doing something wrong, if so I'd welcome some advice) All in all a great purchase. -

No, it doesn't. I've had cases that do, and the screen has still got dirty. -
Sony NW-A8XX Series carrying cases

Hey Angrybadger Will do, plus I'll try & post some close ups of the unit itself. Also, to answer your question, you can operate the unit with the case on. Only problem I have is turning the hold button( which is on the back of the unit) on/off. -
Today I purchased a leather carrying case from The Sony Center in Tottenham Court Road London, for 20 GBP. They told me that they will be getting a delievery tomorrow so if you don't like this, there will be other types availble. The silver ring is like key ring that buckles to your trouser loop. Please excuse the picture quality, as they were taken with my V3 Motorrola mobile phone.

I wonder how many people use all 30 Gbs 0r 80gbs of their available space. When i had an ipod, I never had more than 1000 songs on their as I choose the songs I liked on a CD & ripped those onto the player, as opposed to putting my whole music collection on. Also I wasn't one who put pictures on. Besides my friends who had 1000s of songs on their Ipods had barely listened to half of them. 4 or 8 gb is enough for me.

Reading this thread was one reason I choose the NW-A806 over the s700 series!
-
To answer your questions: Both the A800 series, and the s700 series can play MP3s. As I haven't listened to the S700 series I can't say which is the better, depends what you want. You can listen to both when you come over to the UK. The a800 series starts at 119 GBP( 2 GB) 144 (4GB) and I think 179 (8GB) Not sure about the s700 series. Hope this helps!

Great choice. I have the 806. Thinking maybe I should have got the 808, but that's life
-
As do I. Can't say I heard much of hisstuff towards the end of his life, more into his 80's stuff
-
Sorry, my bad . The mains charger was 14.99. Think that they should include it with the player, but Apple and others do the same.
-
It's the Sony AC-U50A, USB charger. I asked if the only way to power the unit was from the USB connected to the computer, and was offered this as an alternative.
-
Nice . Do you own Luthers: The Night I fell in Love? Classic

I brought the 806 yesterday, from a Sony Centre, in West End London. The only case they had was a spiderman one. I too am waiting for the clear case, but not sure that this will be the best option. If you have A Sony Centre near you, that's the place to go.

yeasterday Lunch time, I made the trip up to Tottenham Court Road, in the West End of London. I had my sehessier CX300s with me, and I had a demo with the NW-a806(4G). I was BLOWN AWAY. Before yesterday the best SQ I had heard was on my mini-disc recorder. But after listening to a REDMAN song( & watching a little bit of the spider trailer, but not a lot as I was watchibg it later that day!) I knew I had to have one. I got a black one, ( last one in the shop , but no carrying case, as they had one spiderman ones left. The guy in the shop told me that the headphoves alone are worth 45 GBP. Was an expensive day, as I got a two year warranty, and an external amp. Can't wait to charge it up. I do have a question. I already have SS( 4.3/4.4, the latest version) To download the image converter, do I have to down load from the CD-Rom, and how will that effect my already installed SS?
-
DSP, Great comparsion. after listening to the 806 yesterdat I was blown away.Had to get one
-
DSP I for one would be interested in seeing a comparsion. Also today is the day for me purchasing my 4G 806. I'll be back with my views later.

I've looked at the Ipod nano, but my experience with the Ipod has warned me off. In many ways it is perfect, apart form the SQ. I don't mind spending more for something that is similar to the Nano( NW-A800) but has video capability( which isn't important to me) and better SQ (which is!)
