www.batteryuniversity.com really, really indepth stuff. i only read the section on Nimh charging because I go airsofting. Now i need to find a Nimh charger for my brand spanking new 9.6v 3600mah nimh battery because the one I have at the minute only does Nicd.

no it's definitely not normal because the gap spacing isn't consistent. around the corners it will be perfectly flush fit but as you move up the sides on the left side the gap widens then closes, same on the right but not as much. and it's definitely not normal if it's causing a creak.

i have large gaps on both sides of the player.. the widest it gets is about 2mm. massive. even lint could float in....

do most, or all mp3 players do this? or do some work on a drag and drop basis like an external storage device?

shit I just got off the phone with the local SonyStyle store who told me they only do product exchanges within seven days of purchase. Now I'm supposed to bring it to their customer service center and discuss maintenance options... meh. Still at least I think I've got it better than the rest of you, I'm not hearing any creaks. My only concern is the cracks look big enough for stuff to actually get inside, like dust, water, small children, etc. Could this be the A3000's equivalent of the HD5 d-pad? =0

The NWA3000, and most, or all Sony devices with built-in rechargable batteries, use Lithium-Ion or Li-on batteries which aren't susceptible to the memory effect like older Nickel-cadmium (Ni-cd) or Nickel metal hydroxide (Nimh) batteries. So you shouldn't worry too much about your player being charged EVERY time you you plug it into your PC, AS LONG AS you remember to let the battery go through a full charge cycle (drain and then recharge) every so often as a form of maintenence for both the battery and the player. The pdf manual explains a little bit about lithium-ion batteries and the memory effect and why it's okay to plug your player in and charge it before it's empty.

does anyone know if you can get thru a metal detector with a nwa3000 on you? probably not huh... those american metal detectors are tweaked to pick up a paper clip. it's a pain to shove my player into my bag every time i come up on a security check because my bag is usually jampacked.

The answer is yes. Which ones, I don't know. Definitely ArtistLink. I asked what else in another thread, if I find the answer I will post the link here.

The fact is you're going to get so many mixed results from the people on the board, it really won't be much help to you in deciding whether or not you want to buy it. I would say buy it, if CONNECT works, fabulous. If it doesn't work, use SonicStage. I don't think anyone has had a positively NEGATIVE experience with the A3000+SonicStage combination, only the loss of some more "innovative" features of the player, like ArtistLink and whatever else. It's a lovely player. Brilliant sound quality, it feels quite solid, aside from a few people who have noticed some slightly patchy build quality. It's pretty, and it's not an ipod. Best of luck if you go ahead with your purchase.

yes. Playlists on the player made with CONNECT can be edited through connect. That's sort of the point of connect; player management.
-
well, ArtistLink doesn't work for me anyway, but you said "etc.", so what other features of the player will be lost? Top 100? Playback history?

Sony Names Tim Schaaff as Senior VP of Software Development

yeah i'd love to be able to use wmp ... but i mean CONNECT already licenses various technologies from Windows Media... how are they still getting it wrong. -
It really doesn't matter what volume you set it at. 20 out of 30 would be a good number

One wonders why he would jump ship in the first place... Big $$$ from Sony, or something else? -
AFAIA, it isn't possible, and must be done with GYM. However, I was playing with Connect player and I noticed that while you're browsing the files on your device, the right-click context menu for any track has Import as a selection but is greyed out and unselectable... Does that mean some tracks CAN be imported, but none of mine can? Or is it a feature that Sony perhaps intends on implementing in future updates. I can tell you that it is not a result of a generic context-menu because right-clicking on tracks under the Library view gives a different context menu. Does anyone care to shed some light on this little quirk?

my problem is i was allowed to inspect the unit before i bought it and the size of the crack never struck me at the time.. still the player is in pristine condition. can you get an exchange for something so 'trivial'?
-
wait ok... CONNECT apparently updates track tags automatically if you enable ArtistLink background service and network features, leave CONNECT open with an active internet connection, but I'm talking about on-demand tag updating. if tag updating was only performed on a by-demand basis that would probably also free a lot of the system resources that connect currently hogs
-
is that what they're for? i've had like two or three pairs of these and I thought the different sizes were just to accomodate for different sized ear-canals...
-
it would be awesome if like someone else said they gave you an option to choose if the player stops playback or moves to another playlist when it finishes a playlist in normal mode.
-
Well to be frank the instructions in the first post don't say turn it on or off... But the question's been asked and answered before so please read the whole thread.
-
yeah i find the gap between the front panel and the metal band alarmingly wide on the side.... i bought mine from the local sonystyle shop, do you think i will be able to replace it easily?
-
black pixels are simply unlit pixels...... lit pixels are white... consequently the only colours you'll get are black, white, or a variation in the intensity of the white to create an illusion of grey.

I've never had a problem with jvpowertools and I rarely back up because I'm lazy. Perhaps I've just been lucky.

CONNECT Limitation: Album art cannot be applied to albums and consequently automatically to all the tracks within that album. Almost defeats the purpose of ALBUM art to apply it to individual tracks.... you know? CONNECT Limitation: Gracenote CDDB is unable to identify and tag tracks already imported in library. Furthermore, track tag changes made with another program (ie WMP) are not updated in CONNECT (Someone might have mentioned this already, I'm sorry)

yes you need the 2.01 firmware to stop it looping playlists.
