I am not up to par on file formats and quality, but wouldn't you just convert from FLAC straight to ATRAC ? Or is this something that cannot be done. Would not the 1st option (FLAC->MP3->unit) already degrade your audio because your putting it in MP3 ?

I am not really too concerned of it. I give it about 2 days before someone comes out with a crack / fix / registry tweak / work around / solution to this is new hurdle. M$ and their practices are a joke. Call me a hipocrit yes cause I use XP, but I never said I prefer its use over say Linux SuSe which I am using off and on. As far IE7, just a little to late. MSIE developers have waited much too long to revamp it and come out with a more stable, faster and most importantly functional web browser. We can thank Opera and Mozilla for hearing us out and coming out with such a great browser. You won't see me leave FireFox that's for sure! That's my story and I am sticking to it

Yes when looking at your pics, I was interested in making a swivel base like yours. After making mine pretty quickly (15/20 minutes) and putting it in my car, I was pretty happy with the results. I didn't see a need for the swivel because I could see the face already well enough, but more importantly I wanted some that was very simplistic that mixed in and didn't stand out. Perhaps in the future I shall mod it some more. PS - Now onto my next project....modding my XBOX to a multi-media / emulation machine

Welcome to the site, please be sure to take moment and use the search function for possible matches to your topic. Sorry to hear your a iPoo user, but glad to know that your making the switch from the masses FYI, not sure if you heard of ipodcopy. It can allow you to copy from your unit to your PC/MAC breaking the DRM. Though I am not sure if it converts to different formats or not, you'll have to research that. I do not think you can transfer in AAC format. AAC is Apple's format, and I doubt Sony wants someone else's format on their units...wouldn't you agree? You would have to start over again with your CDs. Unless you find out about formats on the ipodcopy software I mentioned above. If it does not then your stuck with doing it 'all over' . If this you do this be sure to rip your music into MP3 format. I say this because we have a developer who created GYM (Get Your Music), which was made by a person who was unhappy with Sonic Stage. If you read in the forums you shall quickly learn the benefits of GYM. That being, able to copy tracks to other computers breaking the DRM. Can't drag and drop, you gotta use SS. Some use a program called "Vaio Music Transfer". I understand it works with other DAPs (Digital Audio Player) and not just the Sony Vaio Pocket. Good luck and let us know if you need more info, but be sure to search first or you could get flamed. Again welcome to the community.

Anyone who has an extra one laying around (yeah I know why would you) I would gladly like to purchase this from you. Perhaps I will get lucky and someone has a broken VP, but still have the hardware. If anyone has any information or reference as to where I can get one, I would very much like to hear from you. PS - I have posted in forum.minidisc.org as well.

HA HA, Shame on Apple for doing that. Hopefully Apple learned something from this. I've always believed the best form of making a point is through embarrasment.

Nope, no scratching. The only thing I can think of, is the top half slides in very snug. If I weren't careful I could scrap up the compartment. Not really a big deal cause it would be a spot that is not out in the open.

Drag&drop is definately a HIGH factor in my book, probably ranking my top 3 musts. I tried looking in the specs for the shell/covering. Can you tell me if its anodized aluminum or is it plastic? What is the X5L ? I see the X5, is that the one you have? These things are just to expensive right now. Looking on ebay the range from $200-$350!! I guess you could look at it like: $50 less than ipod video . . . but still. I want it for $150 . . . I can wish can't I ?

Please review this post prior to reading any further. http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1534 It is an explaination as to what had happened to my DAP that would not play tracks / freeze the unit. THIS POST IS FOR THOSE WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ALONG WITH SOLUTIONS. The solution was solved by private messages between me and OTIASJ: (NOTE: OTIASJ is the person working on a WINAMP plug-in to play/read Sony devices with ATRAC.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok I see what's the problem, I had it 2 days ago on my 512mb key Ml_sony did not do that I think it's a bug in the player when generating the library. Ok now the problem : Some files are created by the pc application, then you unplug the player and the player itself generate the rest of the files, so that it can use them correctly. The problem you have is that those files are corrupted, So sonicstage see his files properly but your player see a bugged database -> you can't see them... Now the solution! : 1) make sure you have a backup of your OMGAUDIO directory ! (because you could lose everything again) 2) first solution : go to your OMGAUDIO dir and sort the files by date. You should see some files are correctly dated and others have a strange old date like 2000/01/01 or something like that. Delete the files with the old date (those files are generated by the player) Then just unplug your player and let it regenerate the database. Hopefully it will work... If not you can try last solution : 3) you need to have GYM installed correctly on your device with the encodekey.dat in the GYM directory. Or, MP3FM correctly installed with a DvId.dat in MP3FM directory. Now, delete all DAT files EXCEPT the 04CNTINF.DAT file Unplug the player and see.... If it does not solve your problem you still have a backup of your DAT files so you can just put them back in your OMGAUDIO directory, But if that doesn't work I don't have any other solution than reset and resend.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MUCH THANKS TO OTIASJ

Usually when I am transferring files, I do it before bed or when I take a shower or watch TV. Something like that where I am not in front of my PC looking at the progress bar saying "Can't you just go alittle faster?" I was actually thinking of getting a Creative DAP unit. I did read up on it saw alittle discourse over software. I didn't like the fact that you need WMP, but I guess it could be worse. What sorts of experiences have you had if you don't mind giving me a more in-depth opinion. I was in the iXXX store (I know, I know) and took a look at the Video. I was very tempted . . .

It is with great excitement that I post this thread, of the completion of my stand for my DAP unit. I thought it would take more time, that I would have to cut/grind the brackets to fit, but luckily I didn't have to. All the brackets fit perfectly and it came out great! I am very pleased with the work. So what do you guys think? For anyone else who has a VP and is interested in making their own, the parts are: - (6) #8 washers - (6) #6-32 x 1//2" bolts & nuts - (2) 1" (25mm) corner brackets - (4) 1-1/2" (38mm) corner brackets - (2) 3" (76mm) plates - felt (with sticker on back) - black non-slip matte

Quite honestly, I am in the market to purchase a new DAP. I want a 40GB with video capability and the ability for direct transfer of mp3s. I hate the sole proprietary software DAPs. So many problems its like choosen worse or even more worse.
-
First of all, what are you doing taking a high end unit out for heavy activity use?!? Yes it is cumbersome, but so long as you keep a copy of your OMGAUDIO folder as a backup on your PC you can put the tracks back on your VP should something bad happen. I have a VP too with 20GB full of tracks. Approximately 278 albums. I am sure you have a good idea of what it takes to categorize all this . I would not be a happy camper doing this all over.....It could be worse. You could always have to rip every cd/transfer every mp3 over from scratch

I wouldn't put it water. Insurance may not cover for that. For example, cell phone insurance does not cover water damage. They can tell it was put in water too, because of a water mark sticker. Once it gets wet the sticker will change color.

This is great. GYM and now Winamp control for Sony DAPs. I am so happy and glad us Sony enthusiasts have such resourceful smart people who think out of the box!! CHEERS to XISPE & OTIASJ and everyone else.

I had copied my OMGAUDIO folder and reformated my HDD on my DAP, then copied my OMGAUDIO folder back. All the songs were able to be seen, but again could not be played. The only way the songs would play would be through SS or GYM. I need some suggestions of what to do. Before, I did not mention that I had installed a winamp plugin so that I could play atracs from winamp. Perhaps this may be a factor as to why I am having this problem ??? Hopefully someone who has read/posted in the ml_sony forum can help

**BUMP** ANYONE HEAR ANY NEW NEWS?
-
hmmm, interesting. I am confused how it was not a problem before, but now it is. Even so, I cannot see why it would render my unit from playing tracks. **Has anyone who reads this, had any similiar problems with tracks being seen but non-playable on their DAP players?**
-
I don't beleive your right on that Stuge. The reason why I say so, is that all the tracks that I had loaded were done via the "Vaio Transfer" software and all the formats were MP3. None of the tracks were loaded via SS. My library on SS is empty cept for a few albums that I see as having no relevance to my problem.....Albums that are not on my player. The bad thing is that there are so many possibilities of what happened it will be hard to determine what exactly happened.

Alright guys, I got a real BIG problem and I need some input. Last night I was messing around with some old tracks that I had when I first bought my used Vaio Pocket. I had saved the OMGAUDIO folder that had the songs that I liked and wanted to keep. At the time I was not aware of how I could get the tracks back to MP3 format (this was pre-GYM knowledge) onto my computer for archiving, but I knew I would a way sooner or later. Since then I have built my own library of tracks and have EDITED THEM ALL for categorizing. This took my a VERY LONG time and I am sure many of you can relate. I have over 250 albums of music which is roughly 20GB. So what I did was renamed my current OMGAUDIO foler (the library I created) and then copied the old OMGAUDIO folder (library present when bought) onto my player and was able to transfer the songs onto my computer via GYM. I then deleted the OMGAUDIO folder and renamed my previous OMGAUDIO folder back so I could have MY library back. I then transfered the newly copied songs back onto my VP and now I can't get VP to play the songs. Went to bed and this morning while driving, I tried to play songs and it would not work. AHH !!! !@#$!@#$^!#@@#$! I had to force shutdown the unit and reinitialize it. Thankfully all the tracks still show on the player, but none of the songs play. Not even the tracks I had on their before the added old tracks from the previous owner. I have no clue what to do and even no ideas of what could have happened. I have the whole day to make my theories and hopefully ideas to troubleshoot today. I NEED YOUR HELP THOUGH. If anyone has any input to this, I would like to hear your thoughts. The last thing I want to do is start all over ... and if that is the case I would rather sell it.

Perhaps I am missing the obvious. Can anyone tell me where this 'ml_sony.dll' file should be put? I am unsure which folder in the winamp directory this should be in. Thanks **UPDATE** found out where to install....now currently messing around

Sony's Sir Howard Stringer | CBS 60 Minutes Interview
JSP62 replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Announcements
My question with the turmoil of issues that Sony has, is what will happen with the products that will come out in the US in the next coming months. Would it not be a wonderful day when we see price drops and less than competitve pricing on products to try to win back consumers? . . . . oh what a day that would be. -
Ug, have not had an opportunity to get started on it. Hopefully this coming weekend, I will have some free time. I am excited and of course will get pics up soon hopefully. Thanks for asking
