I don't know if there would be problems with just copying the files on the external straight to your new computer (if your planning on not using your External HD). I've heard using the back up tool messes everything up and renders the files useless. So it is probably useless to try the above cause you already used the back up tool. I wish I could elaborate, but it is something I have not done in my case. In short, I think you'll have to start from scratch again. I nkow it isn't what you like to hear, but it'll save you alot of headache starting anew. The best peice of advise I can suggest is to keep back up DVDs of your tracks in MP3 format for when your database gets corrupt. (You can count on it happening at some point). You know that the comment Xispe made was just being sarcastic, right? It is true that it was confusing at first, but all you need to do is follow the directions. I know it took me several times to install/uninstall to get it to work. I have no clue why it started to work, or even why doing the proces several times would change something. All I know is that it works and its much better than SS, because of the sole fact that I can download the tracks from my player in mp3 format back to the computer and ANY computer. That alone pays off for all the work required. To accomplish this it would be nearly impossible. You got 2 huge issues that need to be dealt with: M$ WMP code & Sony's code.....both of which are not open source.

Welcome to Atraclife FORCA, I do not believe you can export the playlist. It all goes back to the proprietary format Sony upholds. It was only recently that support for MP3 was made and that in itself took SS several versions before we saw that happen.

Yup competition in the near future will be stiff, between APPLE & M$. If M$ ever hopes to steal market share, they will have to create a "streamline" system as you say, pata2001. It's all about functionality software wise now, I think....at least to people like you, me and this forum. And on a side note, where is Sony in all this? . . . . Somewhere debating at a round table on a concensus on what to do.

I beileve it so, but I cannot find the original post. They look very nice cosmetic wise. I wonder how it will function software sense . . . . I know that within the first 10 minutes of me using the new beta version of WMP and URGE., that I wasn't too happy with it. (first impressions though. Since then I have not used it). Sounds about right to me. Of course this is un-official and has yet to be made official and enforced. (I hope it is) I wouldn't be surprised though if its reduced, after some legalities about the timeframe of notification to timeframe of an injunction being placed for the fining to be on hold while a decision is made.

I have an issue with the SEARCH function that I wish could be changed. I have seen this rule on other forums as well.... ...that is cannot serach for 3 letter words. While I can see that search for such matches the results may turn up many instances, but I can also see the need to have it allowed. For example: GYM is a 3 letter word MAC is a 3 letter word R37...or any other SONY model can have 3 letter words I just think it makes it harder when searching for the hard to find matches. Is it just me???
