    Separate Bass and Treble

8 Step ends with the E710/10, and N10 (which could mean the End of Megabass, R700 didn't have the 8 step, now the N707 does, perhaps next the N505s successor will, whereas the others have the 6 band EQ?)

    Separate Bass and Treble

I think the 8 step is in all players E75 and on, and all high end recorders, starting with the R900 + N707 gen and on. Hacks excluded
  3. The TOC of 74 mins of silence would be one track, right? The TOC of the current disc is 200+ tracks. Copy TOC of 74 min disc to the other one, and... Now you have two discs, both with 1 track, but differing contents.
  4. I think he meant you can replace the N10 battery with another N10 battery.. Which is fairly easy, they show you how in the user manual, so i've heard..

    MZ-N505 'next button'

the CAD = .78 NZD, so its about NZ$3.5, which is a good price..

    MZ-N505 'next button'

2 CAD is a good price. In Japan, a 10 pack of TDK music jacks sold for I think 1380 yen.
  7. It gets confusing. I think there needs to be a minidisc.org posting rules and guidelines, t-board styles.. Also, PM's would be better for discussing this, too.

  9. adding a constant noise would help, I think the problem would be tape hiss, in that it keeps setting off the mark from the sound level changing all the time.
  10. Zephonith on this board had a vaguely similar problem.. Her R900 would act as if it was recording (i.e. you could monitor the recording). But when the machine went to edit the TOC, she would find it hadn't done squat. The overwrite head was misaligned, and it cost her NZ$90 to repair it. I'm not sure whats with these places that charge 'just to look at it'. Seems strange to me... About the 831: It's supposed to be one of the tough MDs. R37, R50 class.. And it sounds extremely good, too. If you ARE thinking about replacing it, the sharp MD-DR7 looks to be the replacement.
  11. I get paid NZ$6 an hour.. I'm coming up to about $2500 worth of MD gear.. Not exactly rich. Closer to more hours of manual labour than I would like to count..
  12. I remember that thread.. I think he got a US$150 quote from the repairman. Poor guy..
  13. Oh, just an assumption that something will replace those N707s and N505s..
  14. Yep, normal sized AA. It's a 700mAh NiCd battery.. I'd recommend you get something else, at least the NiMH version of that battery..
  15. Not really. It might even be broken. At any rate trying to fix it without the proper tools will surely bust it further You would have to take the lid off to do any serious work, which is a mission in itself..
  16. How do you align the record head? Take it to Sony's service centre. Undoubtably it was from dropping the unit too much.

    MZ-N505 'next button'

'tis the player, return it if possible.
  18. No damage will occur to the unit with too high volume.
  19. Recording head is misaligned, or dead. I'd repair it, if I was you. It's a nice deck!
  20. use the soundcards analogue out (or optical, if you hav eone) , into the R909s line in, press record on the R909, and play on a music player on your computer (such as winamp). It's a real time transfer though.

    Need advice

Sharp IM-MT880, Sony MZ-N707 The Sony is cheaper than the Sharp, but the sharp sounds better than the Sony . The sharp is also the top of the range for Sharp whereas the N707 is a mid range model. Both have NetMD which allows you to record at high speed FROM your computer to the MD. You can record concerts with both units, and record from any source that emits a noise. (well it would be preferable to have an optical cable). To record to your computer optically, you would need a deck with optical out as no portable recorders have those, unfortunately. You can still record to the computer via an analogue line, and the IM-MT880 would be best for this as it has a stronger line out.

    Anyone in Sydney?

That's the N505 alright.. AU$359.. Best of luck to you!!
  23. MD isn't popular, so in order to reduce price, they skimped on accessories. In regards to the original thread, the Silver N707 isn't a US model, so I don't think you can obtain one new from there..

    Opinions on E900

It's got many things you're familiar with from your N1: Personal Disc Memory Digital Sound Preset Alarm It's fairly tiny, about 100 grams with battery and disc. Runs for about 20 hours or so on the NiMH gumstick, don't believe sony's 29 hour quote. Bad: Mine broke after a week, due to a funky lens or something. I don't know. Never fixed it, it's sitting here right now in fact! Not really anything else I can compare it to to tell you whether it's bad. For US$89, take it, and never look back, it's a fine player.
  25. Unfortunately. I wish that error would have a better description in the manual. Try to repair that 831, it's one of the best MDs out there!
