    Sharp MD-MT200

I'm not sure how it works on a sharp, but it's incredibly simple on a sony. Skip to the time where you want the divide. Press the track mark button. Repeat until disc is marked. I imagine the Sharp is very similar to this. There's manuals on minidisc.org, you could give 'em a read for more detailed info.
  3. NetMD isn't important? Grab that MT200!!
  4. yes no - you can use an analogue line cable (3.5mm to 3.5mm jack) or optical cable (TOSLINK to 3.5mm jack) if your computer has optical out
  5. Eh? Add sharp, panasonic, denon, JVC, and other MDR manufacturers to that list too, they all have SCMS... There aren't any units with optical out and in, except the MZ-1 you own. And decks. But north america (best buy is in america, right?) doesn't have them, so off to ebay you shall go. Buy a bleedin MDS-E10. Pro deck. No SCMS for you. You do realise you don't HAVE to use NetMD right? For the price of a 20 gig iPod you could get an MD and SCMS stripper, AND not have the trouble of a HDD based mp3 player.. I'm somewhat confused still, rofl..
  6. Huh? On my R37, in manual record mode I can change the mic levels..
  7. The N707s microphone amp is stereo, however if you have a preamp, use that instead, it should be better quality. I can't give you a recommendation on what preamp to buy, as I don't know of any :?

    Rehearsal Mode

    Introduced on the MZ-N10
  9. and kill any possible backwards compatibility with old units. MDLP was bad, but this would be a shocker..
  10. Leland, guess i'm wrong then Still, it's pretty chunky. SOF2 didn't make my computer grunt so much as sonicstage does!! As a music player, I find sonicstage not so bad, but it's incredibly slow. I prefer to just take an MD and put it into my deck. Doesn't skip, either..

    DEAD

Want me to pose as a newbie for you guys?
  12. I was doing some 'I am considering netmd' research which involved openMG and realjukebox.. Maybe I got confused (openMG and Real hiding them in different places?) but I kept finding .omg files hiding in folders marked 'sony'. I think I zapped 'em all. I installed sonicstage today, just for fun.. Damn, if I buy netMD boy am I going to be complaining.. It's slow... Damn slow.. I'm scared of launching the program now. On the plus side, ATRAC3 doesn't sound so bad on my computers speakers
  13. press pause + rec press mode button
  14. well, they probably thought it was a zip disk or some other bizarre form of mp3 player..

    MZN-1 vs MZ-N707

don't be so MD defensive I believe he owns sharp portables.. The differences between the two are exaggerated by him though..

    MZN-1 vs MZ-N707

And a better LCD on the unit, and a lighter unit.. smaller unit (yes, the N707 is HUGE. Far fatter than my R37 which I preferred after borrowing an N707). The rest of the worlds N707 comes with a non-backlit remote, too, so that's another plus for the N1. Even though I consider now, all recorders suck compared to a deck.
  17. In new zealand: If it is an old MD.. like... R37, R30, R3(!) then they think 'wow, fancy cassette player'. If it is a modern MD (R90, R900, N1, N505 etc) then they think 'hehe, MP3 player. I can't win. And I don't change disks just to show off. Although once when I did have to change a disk, I got that puzzled stare, rofl
  18. Ah, the joy of copy protection.

    PDM?

When I used my E900, PDM was awesome. It's like a playback only scale factor edit. Different sound settings for different discs.. Awesome.
  20. Ya know, i'm certain I read that he wanted to move 'em around from the MD to the computer... which is why I recommended an HDD player.. Thing is, the NetMD to me is for permanantly converting your MP3's to the MDLP modes. Don't do this and you won't like NetMD (as it hides .omg files all over the place). Once everythings converted to .omg, then its very good, and you will get fast transfer speeds to your MD. So if all you want to do is move your mp3s (and keep them intact) to a portable device, MD doesn't seem such a brilliant idea. However, they have merits like what Leland says.. Also, with an HDD player you *can* store 'em as .wav

    uploading from MD to PC

No MD can transfer files back to the computer at faster than real time, unfortunately.. Does she have any trouble recording to the MD? Like.. Is she using a pre amp? If she is, then I think the nomad jukebox 3 has a line in, which would also work. I don't know much more about the jukebox though, i'm an MD guy
  22. There's only one 'portable' MD recorder with digital out, it's made by Marantz and costs about US$1500. Which is far more than a deck and a portable recorder would cost.. So, you have the choice of that (it's huge) or a portable recorder to record the sounds, and a deck to transfer via the optical (or coax. depending on what deck you get) line out. As you are recording via a preamp, you can get any portable recorder. You'll be using a line in, right? Some good, cheap recorders are sharps MT180, 190, and Sony's MZ-N505, MZ-N707. A good deck with optical out is the Sony MDS-JE780, or a Sony MDS-JB980 (it has coax. and optical out). Hope that helped
  23. I think the complaints come from people who expect MD to be something it isn't. Like an MP3 player. Think of it as a digital tape recorder. The merits of CD and tape in one, i.e. recording from CDs, random access, titling, editing, all away from the computer. I'd say MD isn't for you. Try and get money for an iPod, or nomad Zen..
