  1. Yeah, it's the UK model. All N707s except the US model come with an LCD remote Pity I source my units from Japan..
  2. From the MT831 manual on minidisc.org: "ErMD* you have come to the conclusion that the unit is out of order. to have it repaired, go to the distributer where you purchased your unit" * = error message number
  3. Ya know, i'm certain I replied to this post this morning.. Odd. anyway, recommendations. If you can wait a few more months, there's probably some new mid range sony's coming out. Try the Sony MZ-N707, or Sharp MD-MT770/IM-MT880, Panasonic SJ-MR230/220/250.

    battery bulge

I'd rather they switch back, Sharp SR60 style or MZ-R37 style.. Not that I would buy another portable recorder, but hey... If you don't like the battery bulge, theres always the low end Sharps (if you can still find them  )

    MZ-r30 Srew replacement

I hope my R37's screws never fall out.. that's over $3NZ. Freaking Sony!
  6. I bet they're waiting to launch 'em with the US N10, pay those importin' losers back (no offence )
  7. I think S.Select is only available on the remote.. It's the 8 step sound preset. Personal Disc Memory remembers the volume, sound setting, and.. and.. damnit, i've forgotten.. Probably the speed setting, too.

    Skipping

broken (wishes PM's were allowed) Meh, I would have bought another anyway, because I can  About the skipping: Sony might not have fixed it right...
  9. MZ-N505.. NetMD.. But you can edit the MD out of the computer.. I dunno.
  10. Yes, the MZ-N707 is a good beginners unit. Plenty of features, I agree with Mystyler. It doesn't have a lineout mode, but just use a miniplug (1/8th inch) to either RCA or miniplug (depending on what your stereo uses as its line in).
  11. I have to get some more 132k ATRAC3 samples and listen to 'em on my stereo.. It's not a mini/micro/midi system either..
  12. And, it'll be in real time. 3 min song takes 3 mins.
  13. You might want to have a browse at www.minidisc.com.au
  14. Those don't record. Perfectly useless for him

    MZ-r30 Srew replacement

Sony's parts department I think sells 'em. A good idea to stop the others falling out is to paint over them with clear nail polish..

    Skipping

    What model is it?
  17. Not at this point in time. There aren't any MD's that can both upload AND download at high speed. There aren't any that can download with a simple drag and drop operation, either, unfortunately. The closest you can get to drag and drop is burning a nero image to your computer, then using the simple burner application as is written here. You may want to look into the hard drive based MP3 player market..
  18. I'm considering getting those Ety ER20 earplugs for concerts.. And an SPL meter.. and a hearing check.. my MDS-PC1's meter never reaches 9 O'Clock, either. it's stuck at about 7 or so. Even that's a bit loud.. :|
  19. Could you just record those LPs to MiniDisc and skip the PC part? Theres really no MD on the market that can fill all your needs..

    weird colors

    Not in black though
  21. Could you enable PM's? Is there a particular reason they're disabled (hey, just curious )
  22. If you get an error along the lines of 'Can't Read' or 'Disc Err', your lens may be dirty. This is simple to fix, really. Now, commercial lens cleaner discs are a waste of time for anything but the largest hairs and other obstructions.. They may even scratch your lens further. What has worked for me, and Mystyler, and a fair few other people no doubt, is obtaining some 91% (or if you can find it, 99%) isopropyl alcohol. NOT rubbing alcohol. 1. Take a cotton bud, and dip it into the alcohol. 2. open your MD unit, and apply the alcohol to the lens (clear thing with a blue hue to it, made of plastic). Make sure you DO NOT get alcohol on anything but the lens. 3. allow the unit to dry for at least half an hour 4. problem solved, hopefully. 5. don't blame me if your hand is slack and you flood the unit in alcohol, or if the method doesn't work. http://repairfaq.ece.drexel.edu/REPAIR/F_c....html#CDFAQ_027 is my source.
  23. Can you push $30 and get MDR-E868's for $36? MDR-238s for $29?
  24. I use SP only as I like it with my stereo (ancient technics receiver connected to ancient 20 year old JVC speakers, about 200W). I also listen to those same discs on the bus, and if LP2 is used to save space, well, i suppose it does, but i'd rather use the same disc at best quality than record two discs, one with LP2 and the other SP, and end up wasting more discs.... meh
