heyy there...i'll try and answer these questions as simply as possible and if you have any other questions feel free to ask...anyway to record music from a CD to an MD you have to options...one is to record via the typical old school methods which uses analogue or digital cables going from an output jack from the CD player to the input jack on the MD recorder...once this is connected it is as simple as pressing the play button on the CD Player and sliding the record switch on the MD recorder at about the same time and it will record the music but you have to wait until the CD finishes before everything is recorded (i.e. real-time recording)...the second way is to use a PC via USB using NetMD capabilities (faster than real-time recording...a song can be transfered in a matter of seconds on my N10 unit after it has been optimised in ATRAC3 format)...this requires specialised software from specific companies (namely SonicStage/OpenMG/SimpleBurner from Sony and AIWA units, BeatJam for Sharp and Panasonic units and RealOne from RealNetworks also can be used for NetMD capable units...)...i tend to use a program by Sony called SimpleBurner that is relatively simple to use to transfer from CD -> MD quickly through USB...see picture below as u can see when you insert a CD the tracks will be shown in the box on the left hand side and when you insert and MD it will be displayed on the right...copying files across is a simple as pressing the record button and selecting which mode you want to encode the music in (i.e. LP2 or LP4, and note that this method will be faster to transfer music across than using cables)... basically similar to what i've said above...you can use either through use of cables or use of USB and software...

the 510 features acombined optic and line inputs and a headfone output jack if i recall correctly...also you could take a look at either Sharp or Panasonic units...
-
u can try and convert the files to .wav format and import + transfer using SonicStage that way...this usually tends to fix up the problem of not being able to encode the files to ATRAC3 format during transfer...try this...otherwise it's something wrong with the software...
-
decks feature optic outputs more frequently than portables...i've only seen like a few portables with optic outputs and they're very old models...
-
use SimpleBurner to bypass this since it goes from CD -> MD through ur laptop on the fly without going thru ur hdd...it should lessen the time it takes to transfer files over...
-
seems to me that your MD unit is starting to not like the discs you give it...i think the lens is the culprit and needs to be checked out if it is doing this to all the MD's you've tried on...i'd suggest you take it back to a service centre for it to be looked at... i don't know...this hasn't happened to me unless the lens mistracks and can't read that section of the MD....then that might be the answer...otherwise it's a bad recording that didn't go properly on an MD and it just reads that part as blank...

if you want just a unit for recording and dont care about size, having backlit remote or any other extra features of the DR470 then the MT190 is enough to do the job...otherwise the DR470 is a very good unit if you want to spend that much and you most likely won't be disappointed with it...sounds great and is a small and light unit to carry around...
-
or if u don't want to spend that much money on it get the Sennheiser MX500's...very very good set for the price...highly recommended...
-
yep...it comes included in the box...
-
hehe...i agree with that...it does seem a little odd that something is missing after u hand in ur unit to a service center but yeh oh well i can always use my other units i spose...
-
there is...or more specifically there are quite a few...a lot of sound engineers that i've seen about use macs to do their work on...so i would assume that they have decent software to do this...
-
alternatively you can use the Nero + SimpleBurner method...
-
i have nooo idea how to fix this but i've seen this happen before...it seems to be a general fault on the N10 units that ppl have brought to light...personally this hasn't happened to me yet so i'm sorry i can't answer your question fully...any one care to elaborate further???
-
yep it does...it does it when you want to transfer music from PC -> MD (i.e. checking-out the song will convert it to ATRAC3 then transfer)
-
if u wan u can add me on icq and ask me to send it over to u...i have it in a .zip file and wouldn't mind sending it over to u...otherwise i'll see if i can upload it to an ftp and host it from there...
-
i would suggest taking a look at the Sharp range of units...there are quick a few of them i have to admit but the amount of $$$ ur willing to pay for one will affect which model that you get...they are all good but as for me i would suggest that u take a look at the DR580 or DR470 MD recording units...
-
yep both these units have an attachable AA battery case...
-
i'll host it up for about 15 days but i have to take them down as i have a cap that i have to monitor....if anyone wants this file again they can send a request to me through email or icq and i'll send it over or host it up again....
-
i will host up that file on my ftp site soon...it can be found here...
-
it might have something to do with the music file that you're trying to encode...try converting it to a .wav file format using the LAME encoder and trasnfer the wav file across...this tends to fix up most problems regarding music files...
-
that's tru LP4 quality is shocking...only use it when recording lectures or something that doesn't need that much quality...
-
it's fine if you put rechargeable batteries in the unit...i do it on my units and nothing is wrong with them...what i think the manufacturer is worried about is the fact that rechargeable batteries have a lower power output than normal alkaline and they have a very sharp drop off when they die....alkalines die off consistently whereas rechargeable batteries just die suddenly and there might be a chance it could damage some internal components...oh well i could be wrong but that's my opinion on why manufacturers put that warning in their manuals...but i've used MD's for quite some time and i've been using rechargeables in them as well...they all work fine so it's all good...
-
yup just expanding on what BerkY said above...this cannot be done since Sony's MagicGate protection system only allows for you to check-in the songs that you have checked-out from your computer and your computer only...if a friend checks out a song on their PC and you want to check in that song on your PC this can't happen...it has to be checked back in on your friend's PC...sux but that's the way it is i'm afraid... :?

yep the disc should spin but Sharp's motor noise is significantly less obvious than that of Sony units but you still will be able 2 hear it...if not you can feel whether or not it spins...try taking your Sharp unit back to a service station to get it looked at if possible...
