if you're thinking of doing it through the USB interface via NetMD then the simple answer is no...u can't get CD -> MD through "true" SP mode...you have to do it via real-time using analogue or digital cables...basically you can use any program that plays back CD's and record through your outputs normally...
-
no unfortunately it's not this easy...MD discs come in two varieties...the ones that we all use on our portable recorders/players that are NetMD capable cannot be used for data...these discs are simply called Audio MD's and can only store audio...there is a special type of disc called an MD data disc that existed a fair while back but u needed to use specialised drives in order to use them to store data...the only problem was that their storage capacity was small and the writing speed was slower than that of a floppy not to mention very expensive to buy and set up...so it didn't really take off...

i think that icon was the bookmark icon??? to access the bookmark feature on the N10...not too sure exactly since i hardly ever use it...someone correct me if i'm wrong...
-
uh i don't think u guys have to do that...i just help out where i can...

yep...the lower bars (closest to the left hand side) refer to the lower sound frequencies (basically alters the "bass" levels)...the middle bars alter the mid-range of the sound spectrum and higher bars (closest to the right hand side) alter the high end frequencies (basically alters the "treble" levels)...

sound like there's an error with the songs or the software...if a blank MD is inserted and this happens then check if you can transfer another song (as a test) across via those programs...if not then it could be either the software or the song...try encoding it to a .wav file with LAME and see if you can transfer across because this works most of the time...if it can't then it's a problem with your software and you need to reinstall your software and drivers to see if this can fix up the problem (this usually works)...

oh btw regarding the Audigy 2 Platinum i have something against the performance of the card...it actually performs worse in sound benchmarks than my Audigy Platinum (this was also confirmed by a pro sound mag that i was taking a flick through a few months back)...i think it is the case because the Audigy sound processor is based on a brand new chipset that Creative made themselves to their specs whereas the Audigy 2 is using a stripped down modified version of a Cirrus Logic soundchip (Cirrus Logic cards are very good in general but not when Creative have mucked about with the chipset...)...IMO get the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro because this card is actually a lot better and newer than the Audigy 2 in terms of sound and quality...

i usually normalise the files and clean it up a bit with a few programs if i need to...i keep the file format as a .wav usually...

for live recording purposes i would recoomend you take a look at the Sharp range of MD units...the new unit such as the DR420 is relatively cheap now and does the job well...in terms of mics i have no clue about which brands to use sorry since on my MD i just use a small Sony one...for live recordings i usually hook my laptop up to the mixer directly and record using a Creative Extigy from the output of the mixer...if i record directly from mics i usually hook the mics (usually Sennheiser ones) they use up to a Balanced Audio unit and record it from there with the same Exitgy...

not to my knowledge...just try basically putting both the bass and treble levels to max and listen to it...the 5mW per channel output of the R900 should be sufficient for most people...i have to agree that it wasn't as powerful as the old Sharp units but it does sound relatively good...otherwise try with different headphones or listening to a different disc...because from what i've heard on my old R900 unit the sound is perfectly fine...

i agree with kurisu above...but if you kind of get the hang of the way Sony names their products then u would get a clue of what to expect...the "N" means that the unit is NetMD capable (i.e. MZ-Nxxx), the "R" means it is a non-NetMD recording unit (i.e. MZ-Rxxx), the "E" denotes that it is a playback only unit (i.e. MZ-Exxx), and the "F"/"G" mean that they have a tuner of some sort (i.e. MZ-NFxxx/MZ-Gxxx)...when u combine these two together say the "N" and the "E" to form "NE" (as in MZ-NExxx) then it basically means that it is a NetMD capable playback unit...this translate to a NetMD downloader (i.e. being able to transfer music from PC->MD but not having the ability to record)...

SonicStage only rips the tracks in the proprietary ATRAC3 format i think...if you want to rip it to .wav or .mp3 then look elsewhere...
-
most Sony MD's come bundled with a "protective" pouch of some sort...and that black knob thingy looks to me like a remote commander that digital video cameras and XPLOD car stereos use...i think it's meant to be a remote for the unit while it is in the car since all u need to do is access its simple functions (i.e. Play, Stop, FW, RW, Vol +/-) and that knob thing does it all and plus it can be mounted near the steering wheel or wot eva so it doesn't get in the way...

Sony units do have a few problems with them...as do many other brands but in general they're built to a high standard (i hope) so i don't know y a lot of them are mulfunctioning hardware wise...if it's connected to the PC i must say that it has something to do with the Software/Hardware interface (which quite frankly sux atm) so unless they fix this problem up users will still get a problem with connecting their N10 units to their PC...the N910 is a newer unit and it doen't use a dock with a new type of USB connector that the N10 does...they still use the typical small type USB connectors which have been pretty reliable in the past so that maybe why it hasn't been experiencing that many problems....
-
i haven't had a problem with my N10 unit yet and i've had it for nearly a year...so i don't know...maybe it came from a good batch or something but i agree that there are quite a few problem regarding this unit that other members have expressed through several threads...
-
sorry to disappoint but this can't be done on the NF810...
-
yeh i kno the lower ended units used them...sorry i was referring to the high end models such as their flagship models...
-
yeh i gotta agree with the battery problem...but i had no choice because it was given to me as a gift and the N910 didn't exist back when i got it...
-
u could try and rip apart the unit yourself and align the lens/motor mechanism yourself...i just basically realigned the mechanism on a mulfunctioning E900 (it won't read MD's because someone had dropped it) and i've managed to revive it...
-
this has something to do with the internal remote connectors...sometimes they would hit the wrong pad thing and the wrong msg is sent to the unit and it does what u described above...this happens from time to time on my N1's and N10's remote...but not that often...if you take the remote apart you will see how the connectors are lined up with the buttons and sometimes it does something wierd and the wrong message is sent...that's what i think anyway, i could be wrong...
-
wot did u mean by this??? the NE-410 should have come bundled with SonicStage 1.5 if it is NetMD capable as with all other NetMD capable units...
-
this tend to happen...don't know why but best thing is to reinstall the software 2 fix it up...
-
i hav to say that all mechanics do fail and MD's are not exempt...since they do contain moving parts they "may" skip while jogging (havn't seen this happen on my DS8, E10, HX400, MJ70, N1 or N10 yet)...heck the E500 that i've got in my possession skips when it sits on a stable flat table and i've never recalled dropping the unit once....but in general MD's units are sufficient for jogging...
-
i own this unit...very nice unit actually...small and compact but does the job...speakers aren't too bad either...i really don't know what you want to know about this unit but i would recommend it to you...it's a good buy...

is your model the Japanese domestic model by ne chance??? because the one i have is and it has a few extra menus that aren't available to other releases elsewhere...not too sure about the backlight menu but i'll try and go take a look when i have time to confrm this...
