  1. as KJ_Palmer said...ATRAC Type R is for SP recordings...ATRAC Type S still utilises ATRAC Type R during SP recordings but also it enhances LP playback slightly (this is ATRAC Type S a combination of enhancements in recording and LP playback not just for recording as ATRAC Type R was designed for)
  2. check out your other post on the NetMD section of the forum...i've answered your question there...
  3. no you can't upload through the USB interface using NetMD...u can only upload the music files from your MD unit to your computer through normal analogue 3.5mm stereo cables...you can only download music through NetMD from the PC -> MD and not the other way around... yep this is fine...there's no problems with files that you've downloaded from these p2p programs...they will be able to be checked out through sonicstage without any problems most of the time...
  4. unfortunately u cannot record in true SP mode thru SonicStage...this can only be done in real-time and not via NetMD transfer...so even if you did encode with the SP option they put in there it's not really SP, rather it is a higher quality LP2 track....so you're better off getting and optic cable and recording from your computer that way with SP...
  5. that would be quite a nice update... tho i don't think it may come in the near future since the RIAA still have a firm grip around the copyright issues so the "freedom" to transfer music files across freely may not come too soon....
  6. not too sure wot u consider as a standard USB cable but if you own other sony peripherals such as digital still and digital video camera they use the same connectors as the USB cable on the N1/707/505 and i think the lower models of the new 2003 lineup such as the N710 (so they can be used with the unit)...the N10 however uses a completely different USB cable...very thin and flat but this doesn't concern your model so you don't need to worry...but yes if you don't own sony peripherals it's a pain to carry around heaps of USB cables as clonmult said above...
  7. N910 also has a longer battery life as well due to the inclusion of the higher capacity NH-14WM (1.2V 1350mAh min output) battery over the N710's NH-10WM...made fully out of magnesium-alloy (i think) which reduces the weight over the N710 (which is 1/2 plastic and 1/2 metal though not sure which metal they've used)...also as the other said more features and higher amp output...plus being close enough to being the flagship model (the N10 being the flagship model os Sony) it has basically all the bells and whistles you can basically expect to get from the N10 on the N910...
  8. bear in mind that this is the transfer speed in theory...i'm quite skeptical on sony's way of advertising these speeds since even with a vrey fast PC you won't ever reach it...but otherwise to the question i agree with every one else it is a good unit for a cheap good-to-go MD unit...
  9. the LCD on the unit is fine if you're using your MD during the day time where there is plenty of ambient light (since the main LCD isn't backlit) but if your planning to use it at night then i suggest (as Guest said above) that you invest in a nice backlit remote (the RM-MC33EL/35ELK would do just fine)...
  10. full volume (on the soundcard output) should be fine since the optic out (well on my card at least) corresponds to the volume control in windows...i.e. the higher the volume "louder" the output...and i usually play mp3's at 100% volume (in WMP) and set the soundcard's volume + wav levels in the sound control to max... on the unit the volume should'n really matter since it is not the output volume but rather the input volume that u want to change...and i'm not too sure about if you can adjust the recording levels through digital (i doubt this though) but yeh if the sound's not coming out (or the song is feint) check the cable connection as well as the source of the tranfer (i.e. ur PC's optic out connection) and see if it's working correctly and that you've set the volume levels to max...
  11. not too sure where you heard this but i've had titles longer than this on my MD unit/Disc... yep all the id3 tags should remain the same...depending on which id3 tag you've written to (i.e. in winamp you have the ability to title 2 id3 tags and depending on which one you title will affect what is going to be displayed in sonicstage/openmg/simpleburner/real on...i think it relies on the id3 tag 1 for the info)... not too sure exactly the number of characters that can be displayed at one time onscreen but i would guess around about 8-10 characters on my N1 & N10 units...and yes the title does scroll...
  12. yep MD units play seamlessly throught tracks with hardly any or no discernable gaps in the audio (prvided that the audio source itself does not leave a gap inbetween songs) because from all the mixes that i've stored on my MD it plays throught each track seamlessly...
  13. yeh i think sony's made one of them already (Japanese model and some were actually released outside of Japan) though whether or not it's portable or use USB2 is another matter...data they did make a drive for but it wasn't very widely accepted since there were other more cheaper competing devices out there that people were already using so the data MD was a kind of a flop...
  14. should be .omg or something like that...i have to check...but basically they're all in that folder unless you specified to put the optimised files elsewhere....
  15. an update to the ASPI layer usually allows programs to "see" or recognise your DVD/CD drives...i'm not too sure of the technical details on how this does this though...but it usually works...
  16. ohhh rite rite...did u change the recording sensitivity to high??? coz even if you turn the volume level manually to max and it's on low sensitivity u can barely hear anything...but it also could be that the battery in the mic mite be flat (though if it's brand new then it's highly unlikely...)
  17. hmmm...if u have a powered mic (one with batteries) then it is usually possible to record via the LINE IN on the recorder...(i.e. plug the ECM-MS907 mic into the LINE IN jack on ur unit and just hit record) but what i don't get is that you say that u can't get audio plugging it in2 the lin-in...which is very odd...could u plz elaborate on this??? coz i'm not quite sure what u mean....
  18. hmmm...oh yeh i forgot about this...i prefer to use Adaptec's ASPI Layer...NRen2k5 what problems does v1.8 cause exactly??? because i was thinking of upgrading from 1.7 and if does indeed screw everything up i'll leave it be...
  19. well in reality i think that NetMD units don't even use the full potential of USB1.1 bandwidth yet so even if they do support USB2, as betrik said above, it won't make that much of a speed difference...
  20. are you serious?!?!? neva knew that....sorry if i gave the wrong info...
  21. yep that's right....the closest unit to the 810 is the 710...they're both identical units in terms of internal hardware but the 810 has a radio while the 710 does not...
  22. this is strange...usually SonicStage, OpenMG and SimpleBurner should auto recognise the drives...try and check out the options (and see if the drop down menu shows up with the correct drive letters) to see if it recognises it...but if EasyCD can recognise it should be fine...might just be a software problem during install...
  23. alternatively you could buy a RM-MC11EL/RM-MC12ELK from an internet site if no-one happens to have a spare...they should be around A$120+ i think...
  24. this is normal...the unit does this over time...sometimes you don't realise it since it is indeed quiet but other times it is pretty loud...i would'n worry about it too much and i don't think the lens is dirty since you don't hear a reduction in the quality of playback i would'n think...
  25. sorry i think you're outta luck here....sharp units have gradually changed their batteries over the years and they don't really have replacements for it...if you look on ebay and happen 2 find say a sharp 722 for sale with a working battery that's your best bet...otherwise i'll see if i can b able 2 dig up a working battery 4 ya...btw ware r u atm??? coz if ur in aus it's easi 2 ship it off 2 u if i do indeed find 1...
