  1. does Nero or Windows also recognise them??? because if a burning program like Nero doesn't you need to update either the program itself and/or the ATAPI drivers...this is rare though but not entirely sure of the soln myself...sorry 4 the l8 reply...
  2. you can try this method to hack it...thanks to the user cheese quoted from this thread...best of luck...
  3. hey there, well there are actually new units that can record in LP2/LP4 mode (i.e. 2x and 4x the amount stated on the MD...e.g. a 74min MD recorded in LP2 can hold up to 2.5hrs and in LP4 will hold up to nearly 5hrs worth though the quality declines as u compress more...) ur R50 should be compatilble with normal SP mode...LP2/LP4 modes it can't read (well it can but it shows up as a blank track)...NetMD is just a technology allowing you fast transfer of music files from your PC -> MD (though a little flawed it is better than recording in real-time)... the discs come in 74min and 80min and your R50 should be compatible with both... simple answer is to both these quetions is no...well there aren't any remotes for the R50 that are readily sold by sony now but there are newer remotes which should work on it...u could give it a try i'm not entirely sure myself coz i sold off my R50 units ages ago and i can't test it out...
  4. u can simply check the directory that it stores it in by selecting the Tools Menu (in OpenMG) then to the CD Recording/Playing 1 tab...from there you will see a box 1/2 way down under the option Settings for CD Recording...that's basically the location of where the program stores the optimised files...copy and paste the directory to windows explorer and then it should open up that folder...within it should be another folder called Optimized Files...open that up and you will find all the ATRAC files located there...delete them as u wish...
  5. np... the N710 is a pretty good unit IMO...my friend has got one and it's pretty small nearly as small as my N1...so i hope u enjoy ur MD unit...
  6. oh rite...hmmm...well i would've thought that if you did the hack on the r700 you would get the SOUND option in the menu of the main unit...i could be wrong tho...
  7. not too sure on this but you could just press and hold the sound button on the remote or alternatively just use the menu on the MD unit coz that will work...
  8. no unfortunately this model does NOT have a powered MIC IN jack on the unit...if you want one then u should take a look at the next unit up which is the N710 unit... yes this unit should come with a USB cable inside the box already...it comes as standard (unless amazon actually open the box up, take out the USB cable and then ship it off to you which is highly unlikely) well the disadvantages of OpenMG/SonicStage is the limitation of how many songs that you can transfer over to the MD (i.e. it has a limit of 3 transfers per song) but this can usually be overcome with either the backup utility or deleting the optimised files from the folder...and once they are transfered over to the MD u can't do much with the songs on the MD except for the basic title & move ...u can't delete the song through the MD unit, if you do want to delete a song you can only do it from OpenMG/SonicStage software...and yes you cannot upload music that you've recorded on the MD unit to the PC via the USB cable, u can only do it through real-time via analogue 3.5mm Stereo cable... MD's record in ATRAC/ATRAC3 format (ATRAC is used for SP recordings and ATRAC3 is used for LP2/LP4 recording) when recording from any source whether from PC or externally...it is different to mp3 but uses the similar concept of compression of files (albeit they compress in different ways)... this is fair enough but the budget seems a little tight if you want to get the N710 with mic input...you could just buy this unit (N510) and get a powered mic instead that will still work but then you would have to use the LINE IN jack to record from the Mic...i can't suggest you any other recorders since Sharp do not make that many NetMD models...(only one so far i think) so yeh if you are on a budget you could stick with the sony...it's an alright unit...oh and almost forgot the N710 uses both a gumstick NiMH (NH-10WM i think) battery pack along with an attachable AA pack...so you can use both to get longer battery life...hope this helps...
  9. yup just connect the MD to the computer (from LINE IN or OPTIC IN) or wotever you want it to record from and then just press/slide the record button/swith...

    2 questions

hi there...well the cheapest deck from Sony out atm with an Optic Out is the MDSJE780...this retails for about A$1000 soo i'm not too sure if that is within your budget (sorry i dunno kno the conversion rate atm from US$ -> A$...) this unit should be quite easily obtained in the US i would imagine since you can buy them readily here in Aus and the US is usually ahead of Aus in terms of technology...and regarding your other question the simple answer is yes...it usually track marks the songs automatically...though there are some cases where it will not (i.e. continuous dance/trance mixes and concerts)...otherwise it should be fine provided the CD is not protected with copyright...
  11. hmmm...sorry there, i don't think there's an option that will allow you to do that...because it will always revert back to the Time Elapsed display every time you start playing the MD...
  12. what do u mean by it keeps overriding your existing cd's??? is it during the transfer on2 the md or to convert it on the computer??? because if you want to transfer songs from multiple cd's to MD it's best to use group mode and put the files into a group...since sometimes asian CDs don't have CDDB support and show up as just track 01, track 02 and so on...dunno if this is wot u meant but yeh...
  13. bugger... :? after i installed the patch the program worked fine 4 me...oh well this is beyond me sorry...
  14. hmmm...there is a patch to OpenMG and it should fix this problem...though where the location of the update file is i'v forgotten sorry...alternatively you can always try installing either SimpleBurner, SonicStage or RealOne...
  15. um did u try to erase the whole disc from the unit itself???
  16. hmmm...that's odd...did u try and chop the song up on the PC instead??? like making a bunch of 5 minute tracks and transfering??? because this is the only other alternative...i'll try and give ur problem a go on my N1 unit when i get home and c if i can do a track mark every 5 or so minutes on the song...i'll keep you posted when i try it out l8r...

    510

i think they'r the same models just the letters after the 510 indicate the colour of the unit?? (not too sure since sony tend to do this on their previous models so i think they would have continued the trend) and yes this unit can record via optical ~ it just does not have a mic input, the Line in and optic in are there though...
  18. well conversion rate will be faster of course...i own a P4 2.0GHz (o/c to 2.2GHz w/ 512MB DDR266 RAM @ 400MHz FSB) and a P4 3.06GHz (1GB DDR400 RAM @ 800MHz FSB) and there isn't much difference in the transfer speed..it is a bit faster but no where near the claimed 64x...i can get approx 30-40x?? on the 3.06 with conversion...the 2.0 will prolly get you about 20-30x on the N10 with conversion...that's just a guess since i hav'n had time to clock the transfer as well as do the maths to show how fast it is as opposed to real-time recording...
  19. well if you just want to record music onto the unit through analogue or digital connections from the PC then u can just basically use any program out there that plays music...but the R700 unit does not come with any software (to my knowledge)...
  20. paul van dyk mixes usually go on for this amount of time i would think (becoz all of the one's i've got do) and if u transfer the song directly to the NetMD then it should show up as one whole track (unless u transfered the song in seperate files...) but otherwise you can do a manual trackmark where ever you wanted them (either on the unit or on the PC)...then transfer it again...it should work...
  21. well previous units (1st gen netmd's such as my N1) does a TOC EDIT after each song where as the new 1's do a TOC Edit after the whole batch has been transfered...but yeh try re-installing the drivers as batphink said above...
  22. that would be encoded in "true" SP...if u did the transfer from OpenMG/Sonicstage then it would be masked LP2 since it does the conversion on the computer before transfering...though when u record straight off then the recorder will record to the full potential of SP...
  23. ??? that's odd i am using Win XP Pro SP1 and all programs work fine with it (i.e. SonicStage/OpenMG, RealOne and SimpleBurner)...judging from your description of the problem i'm sure that u'v already pin-pointed that it is indeed a software bug that is causing this...when it finishes a song transfer what does your MD unit do??? like after the TOC EDIT does it just go to the track number and time and just sit there??? and about the netmd driver update i don't think there is one either...i could try and help you with this problem if i knew exactly what the MD unit and the software was doing...sorry if this isn't very helpful... :?
  24. what kind of software are you after exactly??? this unit is the MZ-R700 am i correct??? this is a recorder but does not have NetMD functionality so it did not come with any software (for NetMD transfers) if this is the type of software that you were implying...

    stuttering playbak

oh rite then that's most probably the disc itself...i'v had a dud one made by sony and it's not a common thing for MD's 2 screw up like this but yeh it might be that it has a bad sector right there on the disc where it skips...not too sure how to fix this since there aren't any MD Disc cleaners around (well not that i've seen) and hmmm...since i don't live in the UK i hav noo idea where to track down a lens cleaner for u...sorry...mayb someone living in the UK like the user KJ_Palmer on this forum can help out...
