Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread? [part II]
crazeybt1 replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
yeah Damage.. i got some unusable mds home..haven't trashed them yet.. the TOC seems to have been messed up due to me attempting to record with the magnetic head disconnected so when i pop in the disc it reads disc error.. do u think that by formating them with the HI MD if it will work again? -
i'd suggest the MZNH800 which is about $140 Less than the MZNH1 n got all the functions that ur looking for.. mic input for ur recording n then u can upload to ur pc via USB and another good buy would b the MZNH700 which is even cheaper than the MNZH800 but without the AM/FM radio. so u got those two to chose from but bear in mind none of the mentioned units r out if u check minidisco ur gonna c the MZNH600 available as is everywhere else..but it doesn't have a mic input so it doesn't serve ur cause links: minidisco.com and a feature comparison page. http://lib1.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/mi...tableChart.html *skytherx take it easy it's the guy's second post maybe he's not familiar with the posting n stuff yet *

yeah if the magnetic head is damaged or the cable that links it to the main chip board is busted ur md will still play if the optical pick up is still in tact but will NOT RECORD .. as for TOC = Table OF contents.. (my bad) serves the same purpose as that of a book, it has a list of all the information that's on the disc n it's location but unlike a book where u can just jump to a specific page or chapter just by memory (not having to glance at the table of contents 1st)..the md relies on the TOC to do this so if it's messed up then the MD won't know what's it a bout n will read as an error

what i'm thinking would b the ideal thing to do right now is stock up on hi md discs use them for storage n use the old mds for music makes sense?

Gattuso . well my mind's not really on it really..seeing that i got a working unit still but probably if i didn't have a working unit i'd b a lil hasty  but it's not biggie man..it's coming ..now i'm just trying to b positive about it cuz thus far on my trip with Sony MD units it's just been failure.. the only almost perfect unit i got working fine is my MZR70 but the battery hatch won't close properly so i gotta put a rubberband around the unit arkward  N707 won't record blah blah blah..... -
 i thought i was the king of language/typing contriversy in this place  don't apolagize speak how u want 2.. as for ur software issues.. get the SS 2.006 it seems pretty flawless http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4210

that happened to me a lot but i wanna believe it have something to do with the gap between songs n the MD not being able to end the reocording n still edit the TOC cuz there's no space left altho when it happens i just slant the unit to the direction the lens is n that usually works..but other wise i just make sure i stop the recording instead of have the MD do it itself
-
well i was gonna get an Audigy 2 but i already got a SB Live 5.1 .. i love the entire package the Audigy 2 comes with ..but when n if i take composing beats real serious like my buddies probably then.. until then i'm cool with the SB LIVE
-
i doubt it's just software man lp2 is just 80 x 2 = 160 mins but here's what u could do..record via real time..just increase the pitch say ur using winamp u can download a plug in like fourier pitch/tempo control cuz i get to fit a lot of music than usual on MDs by just recording them faster n say each song have a surplus of bout 5-10 seconds on the disc it all adds up in the end to a lot of extra time left for more recording

 The_stamp i'd suggest u use those clear nail polishes but u gotta b clean n smooth with it mabye have a lady do it but the only prob is when u put it on n u change ur mind don't try n take it off especially with nail polish remover it's acid in that, n it's gonna really mess up the display it's gonna look smered permanently.. having a lady do who does manicure would b cool cuz i did it in times past when i just got bought a casio watch i loved it as what... i was skating n got wiped out.. the glas for the watch got some wicked scratches n that nail polish thing came to mind... when i was done tho..seeming i'm not good at that stuff it wasn't smooth all over the surface.so i tried taking it all off n re applying..n that's when it happened..the display got smered for good.. but all in all i wouldnt' worry bout the scratches on the display cuz it seems in time the scratches dissapear ne way -
in terms of just using the NET MD it will work but using the MDLP compression when recording the dics i'm sorry but it won't work cuz that Sharp unit doesn't support MDLP pay close attention to MDLP (minidisc long play) where u got lp2 n lp4 moods of compressing.. the audio is compressed so allow more music to fit on a disc ok.. but if u record in Sterio which even using the NET MD function will b close to real time recording cuz it only record at some 1.8X ..

right on...... Warranty's the way

 ur a funny fellow .. i got a MZR70 n i still record the snail way but when i'm going to sleep  uhh 1:1 transfer is like real time the Xitel converter converts the signal from the usb to optical then u plug ur optical cable to it BAM u got digital audio signal.. plug to ur optical in in ur unit n slide the record button n WAM ur recording in real time  just digitally way kwel.. as for the p500 i don't really know what that is sorry but the DG2 just over rides the signal to ur sound card n channel it through the usb to the converter n out to optical that's all it does really...the cool thing about it is that u can have ur list of tracks in say windows media player or music match n cuz ur recording digitally track marks will b inserted automatically here's a lil review on it http://tech-report.com/reviews/2001q4/xite...g2/index.x?pg=1 uhh it costs bout $50 back in the day i'm sure u can get it for way less now

Minidisc Player (MZ-NE410) keeps skipping songs. HELP!
crazeybt1 replied to heartskullkid's topic in Software
hmm...dirt getting under the bottons....well that would depend alot on the conditions the MD is kept..like so ur always around sand etc..but dirt n debris getting under the bottoms isn't likely u'd feel it when u press em etc..now what i really believe happened is some sorrta malfunction like with my N707 when i press >> it just goes back as if i'm pressing << n even when i'm in the menu navigating it does the same thing... i..it started sometime back with just the >> n << messing up then it went to my Vol+ n group /cancel.. ne who taking apart the unit at ur own risk... u can take apart the unit..it goes: first get a dark cloth n work on this cloth..it helps when u lose the screws it'd b very visable.. hope u have ur tools ready which dould b uhh..i can't remember the size screw driver ne ways..use what works ..but use what's recomended. now 1- unfasten the screws that holds the back of the unit ie not the screws on the lid.. 2- first pull the back shell to the position of the eject button then slide it open as u would a door but applying no pressure on the side where the headphone n usb port is... once the eject button is cleared u can take the other end off 3- u've done that u got the back of the board exposed..unlock the cable that's under the unit that runs to the lid n just leave it that way make sure u pull down on the brown latch 4- now unfasten the screws of the lid now seperating the lid from the silver structure of the md which includes the bay where the disc is stored etc... 5- when pulling the lid from the unit make sure that the cable that u unpluged is unplugged so u don't busrt the cable (or ur in Deep pooo ooooo ooooo) 6- now u got the lid by itself.. use a philips screw driver and taking out these screws depend entirely on the condition of the philips tip..it should b perfect ...if not then it won't unfasten the screws..n u might end up applying pressure to the screws.. the screws weren't made for much pressure so u'd end up rounding them up ok ( u don't wanna round up the screws cuz it'd b hells to take them out after) just ensure ur screw driver is new at best or something.. 7- now once u've taken out all the screws keep the face of the lid down while u remove the chip board now on the back of the chip board ur gonna c some silver capings which r the buttons.. covered in a clear like tape ( don't peel it off cuz it won't stick back properly it's like those sticker thingys that come on pcs which says if removed warranty void ) now it's transparent so u'll b able to c if 1 ne of the silver capes r pressed in n stayed in which is possible but unlikly no dirt is supposed to b under there cuz it's pretty much sealed air tight now u know what the back of the lid looks like 8- if u still wanna proceed to cleaning something then u can unstick the stuff covering the silver caps..which i don't recommend cuz it won't stick back properly uhh... ohh ..1 more thing u could wipe the end of the cable that runs from the lid to the unit's main board..b careful with it mind it break uhh..as far as controls r concerned that's all i can think of that might cuz ur malfunction other wise it's a malfunction within the unit's OS or something n u'd have to contact Sony for that one.. now putting back the unit together i hope u recorded ur procedures of taking it apart cuz putting it back is all dat in reverse  .... just make sure when u plug the cable back that it's in flush not twisted n that the brown latch is fastened good i think it clicks when it's fastened make sure u didn't do nething other than i mentioned cuz that would mean something else.....oh n hey as always do this at ur own risk...i will not b responsible for ur actions n 1 more thing...when putting it back together.... u gotta make sure that the hold button on the side of the lid is put back in the switch slot or else u might discover after putting it back that ur hold won't work..n the cap for the USB port if it comes out make sure it's in b4 putting the unit back together ( my last note.... knowing this is gonna b ur first taking the unit apart ur gonna b sweating worrying bout it getting damaged etc etc..don't b just b cool..if u got AC u should put it on..or have a fan blowing in ur directions cuz ur gonna sweat  plz take ur time..n don't mess up) n................... that's it have fun  -
Question: what's all this limiting groups on an MD ne way.. i mean what's the point ne way?
-

hmm...extract it with what a HI MD unit? ..or Something else ..n extract it from CDs u talking? i'm not to sure what ur talking about.. altho i'm thinking it's a MD unit cuz u said hack...but the units don't extract ne thing.. it takes what we give it???? but i'm still in a state of :wacky: not sure what ur really asking. -
 ok yeah the compressed air sounds good..but yah u gotta b very vewy vewy careful when using the Qtip cuz once a MD is scratched it's hell works..
-
u know earlier when i read ur post i just knew u were comparing MDs with DVD RW or the like...in the back of my head i was just thinking that eh.. n as long as ur thinking that way i get where ur coming from
-
ur right Kurisu i'd really pic the JB980 that stuff is racked with featurs man.. with keyboard input n stuff probably for labeling tracks, pitch control, 24 bit analog to digital converter what else could u ask for but one thing i don't get is when they have listed it can convert Mp3 n WMA to Atrac3 for transfer...does that mean that it stores them in the unit like NERO does with an image..n transfer where???? i'm not clear on that one feature.. but other wise it's a hell of a nice unit to have in ur house. and at the time when i made this post.. ur total posts was at "911"

well i doubt it..cuz the G-Protection is something of Sony...n having tested G-Protection against Anti Shock i'd say it's a lot different...with CD players atleast.. G-Protection units can handle a lot more vertical shocks than Anti Shock enabled units and that's how u really test skip protection for devices as such..most devices can handly most horizontal or circular or ne kinna other shaking motion it gets.. like Panasonics CD players or probably second to G-Protection but the big difference is in the Vertical shocks...with the G-Protection some way some how the lens never go searching for it's last position it just keeps it..n when the memory's out it just keeps on reading..where as with Anti-Shock the lens go searching back n forth then it assumes it's center position n continue reading the disc.. ( i did those tests with a panasonic 48 esp and an aiwa EASP 48 Sec against a Sony dics man with 1st Generation G-Protection  i don't remember the model numbers just how they look it's been since in 2001 i had those units...but gave them all away.haha didn't have use for them ) and yeah as yall said i do think that Minidisc stores stuff in memory.. seeing that when u load a MD the disc completely stops..while playing..it does i know by 1st listening to the unit n by opening the unit like my R500 n watch the disc stop ..so yeah it's gonna b short i'd believe with PCM but when i get my NH900 i'll do some tests.. -
BJ that's an intense cleaning method... but for just dust all he gotta do is hold the md with the back of it facing u..with the slide facing upwards take something like a pin..something small n hard n to ur right puch down the lil white latch u'll c ...when it's pressed down.. slide the (i can't remember what it's called) the black metal thingy.. slide it accross like u'd do with a floppy.. then with a Qtip lightly pass it on the under side of the disc n remove the dust be very careful not to scratch it cuz u won't like that... u can turn the disc by using ur finger (making sure it's dry from oils) n just tap it in the desired direction..n then go back to cleaning the new area at the back..n so forth till u've done the entire disc... n i'd suggest the same thing for the lens..i wouldn't buy a lens cleaner all it is is a brush on the disc at a specified track...just take ur Qtip n lightly pass it over the lens removing what ever is on it...but in doing that b very very careful...not to dig the Q tip in the while gel looking thing around the lens or burst ne of the gold looking wires..or else u in deep $hhh....... aight now have fun

one other detail.... uninstalling n reinstalling will work ..but from my experience..after doing that a coulple minutes later the same thing would happen...what i found out was that Sonic Stage n OMG don't work properly when there's Nero 5.xx series on ur system..so just incase it happens n u have NERO 5.xx on ur system u can try uninstalling that n it's suppose to work fine..but that' sjust incase
