If there isn't a deck by at least the third generation I'll be mad. Make it the second. They need full force out soon..

Well, it's just funny how successful they are now with the iPod in their hands. The Mac OS sold okay, but the iPod changed everything. I see it becoming a viable solution for certain applications..but who knows. Ten years from now things could be totally different. Coming from a guy, me, who employed OS/2 Warp back in 1995. Nearly ten years ago. C'mon..

Of you too, right?

Maybe, but like I said before I doubt it. If Sony wants to delve into higher densities whilst still keeping a close glimmer or the specs we're accustomed to, we'll have to ditch the old MD format. That's why I strongly believe that this generation and perhaps the next will be the crossover phase. But then again, Sony has surprised me, ala Playstation 1/2.

Still no move on the MySQL upgrade, Eric seems to be having difficulties. I need more authority..of course, knowing me and my ways of editing in a live enviroment, I'd probably destroy the whole forums. I really hope we can make a move soon to MySQL 4, it'd be nice. Anyway, there's something that I'm going to have to do from time to time that will throw things off with the number of users who have visited the site today. To stay #1 in google for relevant searches, I have the keep the sessions for all users logged or not logged into the forum from becoming full. If the sessions file becomes full, search engine bots cannot spider the forums and keep us #1 for relevant searches. If we aren't #1, then we won't get hits. Google has fed us an additional million and a half page views per month, so it's very important that I keep that listing error free. Previously, when I left it unattended, our search listing would just be an error. Now, if you're searching for something and the site comes up as an error in the search listing and you've never visited the site, would you click on it? Figures have put it around 90% "No." So, from time to time I will have to manually clear out the sessions file to assure that things are kosher. The unfortunate side-effect of such is it will reset the # of unique visitors to the site in the index, and also log anyone out who is logged into the forums. I will try to do this at a time when things aren't busy, but sometimes these resets will have to occur at peak times. I am still seeking solutions to this issue, but we're in a much better place than we were before, and the future of these forums look very bright indeed. I thank you for your continuing patience with my never-ending tweaking in hopes that the end result will be something satisfactory to the both of us.

Newby to the forum, a few questions and comments
Christopher replied to MiniDiscCoolYay's topic in Minidisc
You're welcome, and thank you for the kind words. We don't get too many testiments like this, actually. Referring to the forums or the parent website, minidisc.org? First off, please upgrade to Sonicstage 2.2 @ connect.com, as I assume you're employing Sonicstage 1.5. http://minidisc.org/NetMD_faq.html Sorta outdated, but the information relevant to answering that question is above. btw, Stereo mode, more commonly known as SP, is not real with NetMD transfers; it's rebadged LP2. Unfortunately, SP mode can only truly be achieve by recording in realtime, whether it be analog or digital [i.e. toslink to miniplug connection]. So, if you're doing NetMD transfers only, just stick to LP2. There is no unified answer on this, but the general impression is yes. There are still some hard enthusiasts for the old SP mode, but the new Hi-MD bitrates offer a little more flexibility [i.e. PCM]. I think one of the main reasons why old ATRAC/3 is favored a bit more with the enthusiasts is because it's matured, whereas ATRAC3plus, which is used with Hi-MD, is still sorta in it's infancy. A million of them. Try any of our sponsors, or minidisc-access.com -
Welcome, brandon. Try uninstalling via the directions in the NetMD faq and also try a different disc.

Very nice Cori, looks pretty.

Fair enough n00b, I can understand how this can be a little overwhelming, but in the grand scheme of things this is all actually for simpletons. Don't let it get to you! Anyway, Dex/Cori were pointing to the vast wealth of information available at the parent site, minidisc.org. There is plenty of information about NetMD and Hi-MD and alot more. I will assist with this topic nonetheless by asking you first, what is your maximum budget?
-
I will be moving this to the User Opinions forum. Good topic, btw.

Moving to correct forum..

Cool. Glad we didn't have to do anything.

Great tips, sudden.

I actually would just nullify that effort and use an Xitel DG2 or something along those lines..seems like a worthless endeavor to hope some sort of protocols can be made for Mac's. No offense or anything, but development has been stagnant. I sometimes even question the Mac operating system will exist in a decade's time.
-
This is probably the only generation that will be cross compatible, with a slight chance the next might..but if Hi-MD goes into a 3rd generation I wouldn't be surprised if there is no NetMD capability whatsoever and we've migrated to a higher density [i.e. Hi-MD mode and Hi-MD2 mode or something of that nature].

Sounds like it'll work, but do you have the model number of that Fostex?
-
Do NOT use super glue. Try a paper clip first.

This is a good post, thank you. I will be throwing random links in here to threads and then we can start putting those threads in the subforum that resides within this forum. I will sticky this for the time being. Help us, folks. Post links to topics that will help others.

Christopher replied to sonic_raver's topic in Live Recording
Check our Equipment Browser for models from a generation or two ago and then do what dex prescribes. Yes, good. Muhaha -
You know, if you play the hunting game you can score a pretty decent pc for cheap..I come across deals all the time and I could post 'em.

Hey, I just saw GTA: San Andreas and that is the best vid game of all time, hands down. I'd get it just for that, period.
