Interesting development. Welcome to the forums. If you don't see a backup utility, try upgrading to Sonicstage 2.2 from connect.com and use the one included with that.

Haha, interesting you say that. My old R700 had a really odd issue in that era, and it would make some really disturbing noises. Gradually it reached the point where recording anything was moot as the sounds of the unit could be easily heard. I hassled Sony's technical support [these were the days before it became all automated] and eventually they gave me the proper address of a nearby service centre and they repaired it for free. $175 worth of repair I believe the statement said.

Wait a sec. Did you install the program only from connect.com on that other computer, open it and then plug in the unit?

Actually, Sony isn't the only one. This feature is also present with Sharp Auvi units as well, and I think newer-generation Kenwood player-only units, too.

I will attempt to do some restructuring of the forum, but slowly at best. I spent quite a while fixing up some code that was incomplete on the admin side and the board seems better off because of such.
