  1. Lazyness. Mr. Joe Sixpack is just too lazy to carry his fat ass to the next CD-shop to buy the music there. That's all.
  2. If SonicStage doesn't find MP3-capability on the recorder, it automatically converts. You have to connect a 2nd generation unit to transfer in native MP3.
  3. They do work on Atrac as well.
  4. Actually they have. But due to the construction, parking as such is not necessary. However, the Eject IS locked, when the recorder is writing. You always hear the characteristic Zzzzip everytime you edit something, press Record etc.
  5. If you use the discs for Music only, it doesn't matter, if you format or do an All Erase. I say, format it after use, so you know, that it runs the full time. You don't have to erase it before doing a Format. *Warning* Format deletes all non-Music data as well.
  6. I don't know, what Kurisu had written privately, but I'm wondering about Maxells with plastic shutter. I did had problems with Memorex MDs (my pet peeve ), they got stuck more than once in the home decks I had, until I bend back the shutters on all of them. The included labels sometimes come off at a corner, making sure, the disc gets stuck again. By the way, it is advisable, not to put MDs into the back pockets of your trousers, metal shutters bend quickly out of shape that way. Plastic shutters are usually less problematic, as they keep the shape much better.
  7. Well, Atrac3 isn't outdated, that is true. And despite being better than MP3, there is still potential for improvement. On the other paw, MP3 is hopelessly outdated. When it comes to efficiency, especially space requirement vs. quality, MP3 has reached its limits. To sum it up: MP3@128k == Atrac3@105k == OGG@96k == aacPlusV2@64k. But don't make the error of using the MP3-encoder included in SS3.1 as a reference, that one sucks like a black hole, it sounds like diarrhea at and below 128k. However, when it comes to energy efficiency, aacPlus poses a serious challenge to developers - Let's see, how long the first DRM-radios run on one charge... (DRM = Digital Radio Mondiale)
  8. Yes, it the NH1 is supported. Backup your Library first, which should be done regularly anyway. Second, make sure, that on all albums the 'MyCompilation'-checkbox in the properties is unchecked, third, make sure, that the 'source'-column of all tracks contain the name of the album the tracks are in (usually the case, when ripped from CD). That saves you sorting the tracks later, as SS3 completely changes the way 'MyCompilation'-albums are handled. Luckily, you have to do it only once, after that, you will find, that the whole sorting is done more logically.
  9. Or it is a Memorex.

    Backup

Registry and or Database in the Sony-folder under Documents&Options/Applicationsdata (Dokumente und Einstellungen in the German version)
  11. SonicStage does have problems with VBR-files, especially when you had used Lame with the less common options. Solution: Use Lame to decompress to wave, then import the resulting Wave files or use dbPowerAmpComverter to convert into WMALossless, so your ID3-tags stay alive, then import into SonicStage. Since WMALossless is lossless as the name implies, you still only converting from one lossy codec into another one. dbpowerampConverter is here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/ However, before mass converting now, wait for the actual recorder to arrive and check, how the decoder in the RH910 handles your files, it might sound differently to SonicStage.

    Backup

Yes. It might import them but then the files are not playable, as the key for the decryption is missing.

    Backup

The SonicStage Backuptool ALWAYS backs up the whole kaboodle. Reason: DRM. A normal backup program doesn't have to prevent duplication, therefor it can allow for incremental backup, partial restore to a different pc etc. To prevent duplication, it replaces the whole library on restore, preventing normal distribution of the compressed files. Btw, you DO have to use the SonicStage Backup-tool to backup And restore the library.
  14. I was wondering myself, as I didn't found MP3-recording in the manuals. I just hopped over to Sony Japan and guess what: It has been corrected now: http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/t...y.html&lp=ja_en (mech. Transl.) (Scroll down to the second last paragraph) @doclloyd: Record in Hi-SP, upload it, export it as a wave file, you can convert it then into anything you want. With dbPoweramp-Converter, you can convert it then into anything you want.
  15. There are claims, that a coax digital has less jitter, being therefore more precise than optical transfer, resulting in cleaner sound, more defined soundstage and clearer highrange details. However, the transmitter and receiving circuits are identical for both and the chips used for that have a signal conditioner, which removes the jitter anyway, as the following circuits need everything precisely synchronised. Yes, KrazyIvan, it is snake oil indeed.
  16. Doing a screenshot or a copy of a web-page: Screenshot: Press [ALT] + [PRINT], then open MS-Paint and paste it in. Save then. Or save the whole page using the 'Save As'command in the File menu, select 'Webpage, complete' in the Filetype dropdown. Or print it out.
  17. @valurot: You should complain. Loudly. The description clearly states Charging stand, USB cradle and a backlit LCD remote. (I don't know, where they want to get the USB-cradle, as that one doesn't exist. Everything else points to the japanese version.) Either they deliver the promised goods or you get a refund. Don't accept less. Oh, and make a screenshot quickly. http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_co...ore=&catid=4353 Btw, LCD remotes are well worth 50 bucks or more.
  18. HiMD cannot play Mono-PCM. That's, why it is converted into a Stereo-file. Btw, I would never buy anything from Creative, aside from the less than stellar quality of their products, who wants to finance a patent parasite?
  19. The transfer rate isn't that big problem, the real problem are the extreme long seek times. Compared to my NH700, my old r37 is roughly 5 times faster. And a good CD-Rom drive is even twice as fast than that. If you have a bunch of small files, a five minute copy job could easily be stretched to more than 30 minutes. I'm wondering, why there are no seek times stated for the DS-HMD1. Is it as sluggish as the portables?
  20. Have you tried SonicStage 3.1? I can transfer PCM onto MD. As PCM. For other reasons, it is also advisable to update.
  21. I also strongly suggest to update atleast to version 2.3, as the 2.0 has serious issues with uploads. In other words, SS2.0 it totally craptacular. I'm running 3.1 here and it is absolutely stable and the included Codecs are much better and it allows to export your stuff.
  22. Ahem, That's new. I've had the 3.0 as well as the 3.1 and both offer all default bitrates. However, if you don't have a Hi-MD unit, it might not offer the Atrac3+-bitrates for transfer onto MD. LP4@66k cannot be directly compared with Hi-LP@64k, as LP4 suffers from low channel separation. On the other paw, LP4 has slightly less artefacts, so it could sound a little bit better. When importing/ripping, it should always offer all modes.
  23. Here: http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/
  24. It is identical to the CD, nothing is changed in PCM-mode, so everything, that is on the CD is still there.
  25. I'm wondering myself here. In the EU, if a product can be legally sold in one country inside the EU, it can be sold in ALL EU countries, regardless if the specifications violate the rules in one or more countries. One Example: Scanner receivers had been prohibited here in Germany, but the sale was legal in Holland and the UK. And because of the EU trade laws, Germany had to allow the sale as well. And with the same trade laws, the french regulation could be nullified. Including ultra low efficiency earbuds would have been an alternative...
