  1. Then you haven't seen, what the tourism industry is up to. A few examples: Continental breakfast: Sounds big, but it is just a small bun, a small piece of butter and some marmalade. Hardly enough to satisfy a 5 year old. Seaview: You can see the sea, but only a small area of it and only, if you perch into the most outside corner of the balcony. Lively, youth oriented ambience: The hotel discotheque is banging away at an earsplitting volume until 3 o'clock in the morning. Natural beach: Looks worse than a landfill. And smells like one, since it is never cleaned. Aspiring holiday region: Dirt, dust and heavy construction noise all day long and often enough well into the evening. That's, what I call creative...
  2. Well, you have longer recording times, especially when using the internal battery with the AA-cell-addon. It does record in MP3, but 128k isn't really cutting edge. I hope, that more bitrates are available. MDCenter.nl has a hands on this week at Sony Netherland, so we will know more by then. By not being able to record in old MDLP/NetMD mode, one loses compatibility with old equipment. However, NetMD recording might be possible with SonicStage.
  3. Well, the way it mistreats people's libraries, I would call it alpha at best.
  4. Ooops! Always keep a backup! If a virus kills your Windows installation, you're screwed without one.... Looks like, you had 1656 tracks in 'MyCompilation'-albums only and these had insufficient Artist-info. SS3.0 converts 'MyCompilation'-Albums into playlists, which do not contain the tracks, but pointers to them instead. But according to the SS3.0's skewed logic, there cannot be atrack without an album, so it created that massive album and threw anything into it that had no album of its own. In other words, SS3.0 expects you, that you had in 2.3 (and earlier) parallel to your 'MyCompilation' album, everything in regular albums as well. Completely ignoring the fact, that a 'MyCompilation'-album is a regular album only having a flag to display a different icon. Deleting that massive Album was a very bad idea. Hope, you have the stuff still on CD and can rerip it. *Daumen drück* So again: Before upgrading, BACKUP your library. Make sure, you uncheck the 'My Compilation'-checkbox in the Properties window of each and every album!!!
  5. 3.0 seems to grab the DVD-drive to detect when an audio CD is inserted. That could be switched off in 'Tools' --> 'Options'
  6. It is the european NH600. The 600D has the download button. Think D = Download.
  7. Welcome to the 'Untitled Album'-World of SonicStage 3.0. Solution: Remove it. Install 2.3 again. Restore Library from your Backup. You do have a current Backup? Do you? If not, stick with 3.0 and start sorting...
  8. Either wait 1 to three month and take either the MZ-RH10 or the MZ-RH910 or if you need it now, take the MZ-NH900 or the MZ-NH700 (800 in the US) and install SonicStage 3.0. That will be suitable for your needs. And if you don't have a decent microphone, Reactivesounds may have the right one. That is true, a 1GByte blank holds 94 minutes of true CD-quality sound.
  9. You mean that one: ""Optical digital, analog and microphone input sound recording (*) it corresponds. * At the time of substance sound recording only "Hi-MD" mode sound recording correspondence. "" In other words: No standalone recording in the old mode (MDLP). SS3.0 does allow selecting between HiMD and NetMD, question is: Will the NetMD option be still there, when connecting a RH10? Speaking of the digital amp, it is the normal one. The DH10P has the HD-amp:
  10. Well, I *HAD* to test it, there had been improvements on the codec side as well, especially LP4@66k gained a bit with a better high range and less artefacts, sounding rounder, LP2@132k improved by a small margin as well, same for LP2@105k. I have a hard time hearing the differences at LP2@132k now, as they are less obvious than with 2.3. HiLP@64k didn't gain much and is losing out to LP4, which now sounds better - except for the channel separation. But that will be unfixable for LP4, as that is a fault in the design. However, LP4 or HiLP@64k is a bit a matter of taste, which type of artefacts is less disturbing. HiLP@48k hasn't gained any progress and is still unsuitable for music. Playback via SonicStage has improved as well, LP4 and HiLP profit here the most. That's it for now and this month, as I kicked it off the machine and reinstalled 2.3 + restore, until I have rigged the track info on my library, so that the sorting mechanism in 3.0 doesn't break my way of organizing my stuff. A switch to keep the old mode would have been great. Btw, I think the new Icons for Albums and playlists suck. I will find and save the ones from 2.3.
  11. That's normal, Sony Germany never called me back, when I inquired about the upload thrashing problem, a later SS-version fixed it. My guess is, that all NH700/900 exhibit this problem. However, it seems, that the bug exhibits itself only under certain conditions AND in HiLP, which almost noone uses for recording. I never used HiLP for any recording, except to transfer a Morse course from cassette tape. That way, I never knew about it until now.
  12. First Views of 3.0: First a Warning: Before updating, make sure, that you mark all 'My Compilation' Albums as normal Albums. ( Right click on Album, then select 'Properties', then uncheck the 'My Compilation' checkbox. ) Otherwise, SS 3.0 will throw all tracks inside the MyCompilation albums into additional 'Untitled'-albums, which cannot be removed without deleting the tracks physically. Plus turning your 'My Compilations' into playlists Second, make sure, that ALL tracks have the correct Artist information, otherwise tracks will be scattered across the library in multiple 'Untitled'-albums. Since I didn't know this, I have now to deinstall SonicStage completely plus deleting the library as well, reinstalling 2.3, restoring the from Backup and resorting the whole thing before upgrading. (Roughly 44 GByte, ~10000 Tracks. *GRMPF* ) No, you cannot prevent the resorting, when SS3.0 starts for the first time. Negative: Flexibility has suffered, MyCompilations can no longer be switched into regular Albums, Albums can no longer be removed without deleting the tracks. Atleast it asks before killing the stuff. Playlists can be removed without deleting. Albums and tracks cannot have different Artists anymore, I have a ton of Albums, where the composer is set as Artist on the Album and the orchestra is set as Artist on the tracks. Now I have to edit that information on 5000 plus tracks, so that the stuff appears again under the composer's name in the Album list. Positive: You can now select the bitrate for transfer independently of the bitrate in the library. It converts on the fly. A big plus! And you can transfer imported tracks without keeping the converted files. You can now upload, convert into Wave and store the stuff directly into a directory of your choice, allowing immediately working with the uploaded files with external programs. Another big one! Playback from the connected recorder works better now, access is quicker. That's it for now, I may have more time on Sunday. (Damn work )
  13. Which units do have LineOut-mode (Level up/EQ & Effects & Loudness off)? When they have a working DH10P, take some sample photos, so we can see the quality of that. Which brings up the next question: How the photos are stored? One fat file or individual, directly readable JPEGs? And what about firmware updates for 1st. generation units? (Not MP3, but fixing the Hi-LP edit problem and maybe improved codecs.) [EDIT] Which bitrates are available in standalone MP3-recording? Only the 128kBit stated on this: http://www.sony.net/Products/Hi-MD/capacity.html site, or is it freely adjustable over the whole range? [EDIT2] When is the next SonicStage version is out (> 3.0), that doesn't mess up peoples libraries?
  14. It is the white round thing next to the silver plate. Superbright LEDs are the latest fad in technology instead of using a real flash bulb. You find these already in some cameraphones.
  15. It does take the pic and doesn't record from MicIn. No Audio inputs on that one. For recording, take the RH10, RH910, or first generation units except the NH600D
  16. They can. Redundant only, when the MP3-encoder achieves a quality only comparable to Lame at the same rate, set to the highest quality. Well, we really can do without it. For those with older players, e.g. Car units can simply forget the new rigs. Yep, but the new rigs won't let you create MDLP/NetMD-discs. If I read the descriptions right, no more NetMD-mode in SonicStage 3.0 with the new recorders. PS: I reserve the right to be wrong on the last one until I have seen the user manual.
  17. Ahem - No. The DH10 is a USB-Downloader only.
  18. Typo is more likely, because if it was indeed limited to 4h30 then the 5 hours on standard blanks would make no sense. I safely guess, that 14h30 for HiMD-blanks is much more likely.
  19. http://www.sony.net/Products/Hi-MD/capacity.html#3 tells you all. In other words - No NetMD-Mode anymore, but you can still transfer all bitrates, except old-SP. Plus MP3.
  20. Ahemm, where does the disc go in? Am I right, that the little triangle in front of the HiMD-imprint denotes disc insertion? If that is the case, it is another case of not thinking, when designing the cradle...
  21. Despite the fact, that my collection of unused cassette recorders increased by one past weekend, I don't use cassettes anymore. Anything, that was worth copying, has been copied to MD. Thank god for the invention of Minidisc - no more noise, no more phasing effects, no more dropouts, no more wear and tear. I hope, I never have to deal with cassettes again.

  23. The team.gif icon is missing. Viewing it directly gives a four-oh-four.
  24. It would, on a clamshell unit, a fine brush or a Q-Tip can be used too. Remember: Never exert any pressure on the lens. So, be careful.
