Because the server has reached its absolute limit. But relief is near: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8341 (Post #5).

I agree, the 'TOP' button should stand out a bit or being a bit moved away to prevent hitting 'REPORT' instead. The big numbers are a nice touch too. Keep 'em. The ROOQ-skin needs a bit tweaking too - links should get either a different color or should be underlined. Finally - Xmas. Yes, it is only 10 months away, so the Winterland skin from onelotus would be great for that...

Well, that means I've done the right thing after all: Import copies, then delete the copies after converting one by one from the Library. A general unlink function, that can be called after importing and converting would be great...

I place it in the same ballpark, if a good encoder is used on the MP3-side. However, if you use the Xing encoder or similar cow dung, you need more on the MP3 side. I hope, that SonicStage 3.0 brings additional improvements on the encoder side, continuing the progress, that 2.3 already started.

No problems with my discs. One included and 9 bought from a local Saturn outlet (Has nothing to do with Saturn cars) No problems at all, except the upload trouble with SonicStage 2.2 and earlier. But that's not a disc problem, as 2.3 seems to have fixed that for me. On reformatted standard discs, I had one with a hole in the recording layer and a few Memorex, which behaved a bit flaky - All others had no problems at all, regardless of age and capacity.

On a sidenote, Sony Japan has nothing on the new units on its internet pages and despite the fact, that HiMD seems to take off now, there are still manufacturers coming out with MDLP equipment: Fujitsu Eclipse with two double-DIN units and a single DIN unit for the car (mech. Translation). And finally something to laugh: Denon is going back to the forties with this one It even plays your old shellac thingies... (mech. Translation). Have fun.

MDFreak posted this from a dutch supplier on MDCenter.nl: Translation: Suggested retail prices MZ-RH10: 299 Euro MZ-RH910: 249 Euro MZ-RH710: 199 Euro.

That looks much better than the 1st. generation units. The OL-display looks way cool. Looks like, I have to invest again...

384kBps is not inside the MP3 specifications. Winamp usually has no problems with it, the players included with Linux usually play these as well. For the highest quality, I would say, use OGG or Musepack.

Hmm, iPod's ceiling is 10 000 feet? That's just 3300 meters. Most passenger airplanes have their internal air pressure set to the equivalent of the altitude of 3000 meters when going above 3000 meters. It is done to reduce the stress on the fuselage and thus extending the lifetime of the aircraft. In other words, using your iPod during flight means running it close to the limit of the specifications, making it more susceptible to damage

It is an oxymoron.... Btw, Microsoft is back to its old anticompetitive tricks again: Startpagina Alert. Startpagina.nl is a massive portal site in the Netherlands and to promote its own site MSN.nl over it, Microsofts Antispyware declares any site, which contains 'Startpagina' in its address as a browser hacking site, recommending to use MSN instead. Expect more of these tricks to appear soon in this product. Solution: Don't use Microsoft products. Ever.

Yes, it will. However, you will need a different chemical makeup of the recording layer for the whole thing to work. The physical process as such is independent of the wave length, that means, if you use the right combination of materials for the recording layer and a suitable laser, you could theoretically create a 20 or 40GByte MD. But using a x-ray-laser in a portable unit is unthinkable - unless you want to be sterilised while listening to your favourite tunes...

ATRAC3plus Developers' Interview
jadeclaw replied to Christopher's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
A problem with a low number of test-listeners is that the personal listening preferences can go into the codec. With OGG, it was different. Due to its open development process, it had a lot of test listeners, averaging out any personal preferences, that may exist. That's why OGG is that good, especially at low bitrates. Sony should start opening up the development process, eventually even placing the ATRAC3/3plus codec under the GPL, thus allowing users to make improvements going back into SonicStage and other Sony products. Trust me Sony, the many ears approach works... -
Actually, we need more cases like this, so that the judges will learn, that the IP-address of an user proves nothing and is no longer valid evidence. Plus, the network address shown in these P2P-programs during download is not necessarily the one you're loading from. Problem: RIAA-lawyers are waaay too dumb or too greedy to accept this...

Check the DVD-player menu. Most have a setting, called "Stereo mix". Mine has, I can select between "Stereo Mix" (always PCM 44.1kHz) and "5.1" (Dolby/DTS - what the DVD has.). Btw, mine puts out normal PCM, when a normal CD is in - regardless of the setting. (Did I say, that it hates copyprotected CDs? )

Where does that come from? The Recorder or the Charger? Sounds like a slightly loose voltage converter Core. Normally, that isn't a problem, except for it being a bit annoying...
-
Why do I quote that? Simple, as noone else had problems with SS2.3, I wouldn't rule out the existence of malware on the machine, that interferes with SonicStage. Plus, as the quote shows, any unpatched Windows XP/XP-SP1 is dead in seconds... So, remember: Don't connect a Windows box to the internet.

Yes, you are speculating here.... A FM-tuner with MP3 and WMA? I'll sort that into the 'quickly created press photo'-department. Same display template used here - Expect, that the display will look different on both units, when they go into production... The WatchImpress-Article: Click (mech. Translation ).

Electronic Translation (by Altavista) The specification says: Inputs: Analog 1, Digital 2 Outputs: Analog 1. No digital output... *Grmpf* Ok, I can still use SS plus my NH700 to create an unlimited number of copies....

"Der Fisch stinkt vom Kopf her (The fish stinks from the head)"... While the average Sony employee is far from being evil, my opinion about some elements in the management is far less favourable, especially the music and movie departments. I guess, when the electronics department could work without any interference from the media business, they could easily triple their revenue - Without any increase in piracy, I have to add.

Almost all codecs had been designed for music, including OGG and MP3. And FLAC of course too, however, FLAC is lossless like the well known ZIP. There are codecs available which are specifically optimized for speech, just check out Speex

Bluetooth headphones and a Bluetooth remote, that would be the right thing.

Have fun! And have a safe journey.

'Saving Data' means, that the cache is written to the disc. That could be a few Megabytes. 'Writing System Files' means writing the TOC and the FAT, ~ another Megabyte. Plus add the seek times, which are not that fast in these portables. In other words, you have to live with it...
