  1. Congrats kurisu. Keep up the good work!
  2. You should backup your library regularly. Remember, Harddisks do fail. Very seldom, but it happens. Just remember the IBM Deathstar-(DeskStar)debacle. And if a virus does come through and flattens your Win-installation, you are grounded without a current backup. Do get rid of OE. And you will love Thunderbird's junk filter. It really catches them all. From bodypart lenghthening over stiffening to pirated software. And it handles multiple accounts as well.
  3. As far as I can remember, they used SonicStage 2.0 for encoding. However, my NH700 was considerably better than that on LP2. And a good MP3@128k (LAME) was better too. That changed with 2.3. And SS3.1 is even better than that. However, the MP3-Encoder in 3.1 simply sucks. Use something else for that. Or use Atrac instead.
  4. I agree. A rumour, nothing more. Minidisc is too strong in Japan. Plus the cost for the production lines for Hi-MD-Blanks. Sony won't throw that away...
  5. 4) Does the MD records properly through Line-In?
  6. I have no problems either, but then I also don't have any unhealthy stuff on my PC. First rule: Don't use IE Second Rule: Don't use Outlook / Outlook Express. Alternatives are here:Mozilla.Org Third rule: Don't start any mail attachments. That's how I keep SS running.
  7. To my ears, SonicStage from V2.3 onwards sounds better than my NH700 at LP2. However, the difference is small, so you have to decide, if it is worth the effort to rerip our CDs. And since Sharp was doing its own Atrac thing, the result could be different for you.
  8. What? No Custom EQ-Settings on the european RH10? Looks like someone at Sony went completely bonkers. Well, as soon as someone finds his way around in the Service-Menue, that should be fixed. RE Remote: If I recall correctly, someone in another thread used a RM40 remote with the RH10 and it worked.
  9. Why not? I'm pretty sure, that it will behave like any other HiMD-unit -- Upload of HiMD-recordings, but no upload of MDLP/NetMD/SP-recordings. Btw, if the server doesn't answer immediately, give it up to 5 Minutes before clicking 'AddReply'.
  10. In other words, the USA is screwed again. The US gets the USB-Downloader (DH710), the rest of the world gets a real recorder (RH710) with LineIn / Optical. And USB as well...
  11. Where do you see a DH710. There is only a RH710, but not yet listed/available. However, there is a DH10, Downloader/Digicam-Combination.
  12. Sometimes the CPU goes bonkers on these. Take out the battery (and pull out AC-power as well) for a minute, then put battery back in. If that doesn't help, it's off to Sony.
  13. Expensive? I don't think so. If it is the usual Onkyo quality, then the price is well appropriate.
  14. @Spare Tire: Almost all USB2-devices do work on USB1.1 connections - of course only with USB1.1 speed. Exception: Devices that do need the speed of USB2, like realtime video-grabbers.
  15. Bad algorithm I guess. Programming a real good random number generator isn't easy.
  16. Home decks will be available in a short time - Onkyo is preparing component and bookshelf units for mass production. Keep an eye on the Intec 275 & 205 series. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Onkyo_MD-133.html
  17. Two ore three full Charge/Discharge cycles. That means, charging the battery fully, then using it until the recorder quits with a LoBat message. Repeat this two or three times to get the full capacity.
  18. The Olive one is positively great. CCRoyal is very eyepleasing as well. Good choice I say.
  19. My guess: A european NH600 with an RH710 processor. Both units have a jog dial, line-in/optical and a three-line LCD and run from an AA-cell. ------------------------------------------------------------------- @bobdibest: I'm wondering myself. An IDE-drive, exact in the 3 1/2 "-Formfactor could turn HiMD into the next generation Zip-Drive. Plus, special contracts with System-builders could increase the proliferation of HiMD as well.
  20. live365 sounds crappy. And even if you pay, you won't get real good quality. Thanks to a new encoder, Tuner2 offers HiFi-Quality at modem-capable bitrates. Needs Winamp5 and show title and artist for the song played. Shoutcast offers the biggest selection and is already included in Winamp5.
  21. A combined DAB/DRM-Receiver. Dual-Drive. HighSpeed-Dubbing/Moving, even between a Standard and a Hi-MD-Disc And Digital out of course.
  22. According to this page, BeatJam natively supports MacOS. And I guess, a green DS-HMD1 will join my NH700 later this year.
  23. Thanks betamaxDATminidisc. Hmm, am I missing something? In a number of the threads was talk about recording directly in MP3. And here as well. It says [Device] on that option. But I don't find it in the manual back. RecMode has only the known three options.
  24. Yes, but that one had almost no effect. The one used for mp3Pro was a good deal better, but since the base was mp3, it still inherited all the problems coming with it. For SBR to work properly, you need a modern efficient codec, that already is optimized for low bitrates. Something, that cannot be said from mp3. And the SBR used with aacPlus is a newer version as well.
  25. Or it is a Creative Soundcard or Realtek/nVidia On board sound. In case of the Realtek, a borked driver is possible, in case of Creative, it is the manufacturer policing its customers. No wonder, that some people call Creative 'Uncreative Crap'. In all other cases, go through the Adjustments in the Control Panel and / or update the drivers. Switching off some Effects can help as well, especially anything, that has to do with surround sound. That can decide, if digital out delivers a normal PCM-Signal or if it delivers a Dolby or DTS-Stream. A MD cannot handle Dolby & DTS.
