  1. Time to narrow it down: Disconnect the audiocable from the base station, if the cable cannot be removed from the base, disconnect it from the stereo and wind it into a small roll. If the interference is gone, another clip-on can help. Or alternatively, use a ferrite bar and wind the audio cable 5 to 8 times around it. If not, a wire-mesh cage around the base station can help. Connect the cage to the ground of the audio input of the base. Another possibility: The interference is not in the base, but it is in the headphone itself. Btw, setting the base to the floor could help as well. Lying down too. What helps, gives a clue, where the problem really is located. Getting rid of RF interference can be a tedious task...
  2. The current models have a level meter with peak hold during recording, regardless of the input used.
  3. Since we have more space on the discs due to the new recording technique, it would allow for a higher headroom in multi generation copying, plus, we have a mode, that would be transparent to even the most critical ear. I know, the ES-series where very good, but with the advancements towards Hi-Res audio, it would be good, when Minidisc improves as well. I'd rather choose a Super-SP mode over PCM, since at 450kBit, the quality would be very close to PCM, but with a decent playing time on standard discs. Don't hope for that. Reason 1: Existing prefabs. Despite the fact, that the recorders can detect the media type without additional holes in the shell. Reason 2: No digital flag. And Sony refuses to honor SCMS in this regard.
  4. First, the upload can only be done once. Second, it is possible to leave the original on the disc. Third, if you don't allow SonicStage (the transfer software) to delete the track from the minidisc, you cannot edit the uploaded track on the PC. Fourth, if you try to upload again after deleting the track on the PC, the track is simply deleted, if you have allowed SonicStage to delete the track from the MD.
  5. The NH900 has no backlight on the unit. And the text only says backlighted remote.
  6. Maybe by looking on the sticker on the box it came in? Mine says EU8 MZ-NH700/SM4 . I think, the EU8 is the giveaway here... ( Unit acquired via Amazon.de )
  7. It should remember the RecVolume (Automatic/Manual) setting between recordings. Better readable, bigger display. Faster response, faster seek times. LP2@132k directly usable in Hi-MD mode standalone recording. A new Super-SP-mode, giving 80 minutes playing time on a 74 minute disk in a quality well above the old SP-mode. Replace the 'joystick' with regular, well sized buttons. Separate buttons for Edit and Display-mode.
  8. Seeing the access statistics of a few Sites I'm doing work on, I guess, common sense goes out the window, when a computer is involved. Even government agencies and the coalminers union here in Germany warn against using IE, it hasn't helped either...
  9. As the SANS Internet Storm Center reports, some well known sites in the UK, Sweden and the Netherlands had been compromised and are infected with the Bofra/IFrame exploit. This exploit installs spyware on the user's machine, when the site is visited. If you're using a different Browser like Firefox or Opera, you're safe. And with Linux, you're safe as well. The warning is here: http://isc.sans.org//diary.php?date=2004-11-20
  10. Correct. Add this one: http://www.aaton.com/products/film/35/ a 35mm Film Camera and you're set. Both camera and recorder are automatically syncronized using special codes, so that the sound is absolutely lipsync without the need of resyncronizing it during postprocessing. Oh, and don't think that 35mm is dead, the quality of a good 35mm copy is still well above digital cinema...
  11. I cannot say anything negative about the hardware quality. However, the refusal to offer anything for Linux starts becoming a problem as I have decided to remove Windows from all my computers. Yes, I'm fed up with security holes, software phoning home and tons of other problems. Goodbye Bill Gates...
  12. According to the FAQ it is 128k. In addition, it is not available outside the US. I'm in Germany.
  13. Time to ground you: 24414 swiss francs. Thats roughly 18000 Euros. According to a pricelist of Defitechnique, the swiss distributor. So, keep dreaming...
  14. Normally it doesn't happen, but it is a different case with display units. Place yourself out of sight, so that you see the shelf with the units in question and then watch it for a time how the public treats - or should I better say - mistreats the units there.
  15. That's correct, none of the online stores offers anything better than 128k. That's why I call these online stores hopelessly overpriced. Ten or more Euros for a quality, that is partly below FM-radio is simply way too much. The only one, that stands above is AllofMP3.com, which is in Russia. But then, that one's legality is doubted by the music-industry, as it uses a radio license for its service. And giving a credit card number to someone in Russia is not for everyone...
  16. *looks closely at the pic* Hmm, I don't see no belly there. So you must be skin and bones by now?
  17. http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/install/portabl...pgrd-redir.html There you get the 2.2. The Difference is that the 2.2 cannot work with the european connect store. So, if you don't want to use the hopelessly overpriced connect store, you can install the 2.2 and be happy. Since Marc's utility primarily works with OMA files, you can easy convert your OMGs into OMAs with the included convertor. Aside from that, the 2.2 is much more reliable as well.
  18. The Weekly World News, I say Yes, sometimes I'm wondering myself. :wacky: And speaking of the OMA plugin, AFAIK it is a wrapper for the directshow filters, so if these improve, the plugin can too.
  19. You already know, that base and headphone must be in the same room to work. If you still hear only the radiostations, when standing directly in front of the transmitter, then filtering the cables could work: These Clip-On filters should be available at Radio Shack.
  20. Unless you want the highest quality, knowing that SonicStage is junk compared to even the cheapest portable recorder...
  21. The result from the test Latexx mentioned was achieved by blind testing using a software, that plays the tracks at random, so that the listener doesn't know, which codec was used for the file, that is just playing. To remove the influence of different software versions on the decode side, the sound examples had been delivered encoded in a lossless format after going through an encode/decode cycle of the tested codec. The graph is from the 128kBit test. It is true, it depends on the music used and the ratings can also depend on the technology used to create the original recording.
  22. One warning: Never compare tracks from the iTunes store with self encoded tracks. Aside from the fact, that Nero outperformes iTunes, even iTunes can deliver a considerably better quality than what you get from the iTunes store. But of course, to be fair, you should use atleast AAC@256k to compare it with your MD @ 292k. On the other paw, the JB-series is known for its excellent codec Any pc-based codec has a hard time to keep up with it...
  23. Never ever use Paypal! http://www.paypalsucks.com/ @hobgoblin: Ebay is not a problem, if you follow some basic rules: 1.) Check seller ratings. A high number of complaints is a warning sign. Be careful, if the seller has marked his ratings private. 2.) Check, if the seller has sold a ton of small, low value objects and suddenly starts selling high priced goods. 3.) Be careful, when the seller has no ratings. 4.) Compare pictures and the description given. 5.) Use an escrow service for high priced items. If the seller refuses that one, the article offered is defective or something else is wrong. If the seller offers an escrow service, don't use it. It could be a sham. Ebay offers one, plus there are 2 or 3 independent escrow services in the US. 6.) Avoid sending money to a foreign country using an untraceable service like a Western Union money order. 7.) Don't use Paypal.

    OpenMG Audio

No. OpenMG is only a DRM-container for the data. The Audio-data itself is not changed, only encrypted to prevent sharing.
  25. First, always remember: US price is ALWAYS without sales tax. Second AUD 499,-- converts down to 296 Euros. Recommended retail price for the NH700 in Germany is 300 Euros. And we have a sales tax of 16%... @Tartan: The AUD 469,-- you paid is close to the average retail over here. However, Amazon has currently the best deals over here as well, but that can change any day...
