1. we won't know until the 800 comes out, when inputs are available. some ppl are claiming you can export, others are saying your can't. right now its a toss up. 2. if not, then you could record it via your sound card. the new hi-md enables play through usb (thourhg your computer speakers). you can set your sound card to record the output (if you have a soundcard that supports it, like the audigy 2 (i have that )). 3. IceedTea's installer lets anyone burn atrac files to cd. Hey i never thought of that!

it takes a long time to transfer files. ppl recorded 500kb/sec. that means 1000 seconds to transfer 500 megs. thats the only setback i know of.

i also successfull hacked my 510. i got adventurous and i started experimenting with different numbers.... dont do that. fortunately, the tech staff didn't catch on and they replaced the chipset! (was under warranty)

sony store is the best! i've already pre-order it (should be coming out here any day now) and i'll have 30 days to return it. when i return it, i'll get a full refund. if the 800 comes out before one month after i buy the 600, i'll just return the 600, pay some extra cash and buy the 800! if not, i'll just return it before one months past and wait it out (BETTER NOT HAPPEN, i would have been hooked by then). i'll give some bs reason "oh, i felt restricted by the lack of inputs and bad location of buttons." they'll gladly do it because a: im buying something more expensive b: the salesperson will get my commission

i think that im gonna buy the 600d, then wait until the 800 comes out if it comes out within a month. i'll buy that then. (i have a refund policy for 30 days. ) something to carry me over. y'know?

it also enable cd-writing capabilities. (Only vaio computers have this capability, but iceedtea's build somehow overwrote that.) i use iceedteas build, btw

ACK! the release date for Hi-MD is today, but futureshop and SOny Store are saying that that is the release date from sony.ca! sony store will get the shipment NEXT WEEK! I AM FALLING APART!

well, if you drop it in while in all tracks display, it wont go into an album. if you are inside an album, it will put it in there (or more technically, add that album to the mp3's attributes in the ss2 library).

hey leland, did you know that you can drop mp3's in ss2? i find that SUPER useful when i want to quickly get some mp3's on my minidsc, then i just delete them afterwards!

i just called the sony store, and they said that the ONLINE release date is july 27th. they might not see it until next week

I see that you are very concerned with your purchase. I'll help you clear up some issues. not at all. http://www.sony.net/Products/Hi-MD/capacity.html and... http://www.sony.net/Products/Hi-MD/quality.html ----- just by fiddling around with it i discovered that your could easily delete the *.omg of the usic file simply by right clicking the file, going to properties, tab to "file info". there, select the format your wish to delete, then click "delete". that will delete the atrac file. gotta hand it to ya about the deleting of the omg file without sonicstage knowing. that is dumb. (btw, what's with the optimizing library all about? i thought that would fix the problem. :/ oh well.) ---- sony had made a deal with "sony music" to enable DRM to its files, otherwise minidiscs wouldn't exist today. the reason mp3's can't be played by minidisc players today is beacause sony can't (legally) play them. ---- realplayer (v10) did very well with std md's. it deleted the omg files (its a setting) after conversion. it got as close as a drag and drop could get with atrac. WHat does the download button on the 600 do? like, theres a record button on the others (i have a 510, i sometimes do recording), but how dodes the "download button work" i haven't found a clear answer here.

a network security team found a major flaw in 802.11 (b, d, g, etc) protocol devices. (also known as wireless routers, laptops, etc) devices communicate by sending and receives packets of information. a device CANNOT send packets until it is done receiveing. so, this flaw can be exploited simply by having a device (whether it be a PDA or even a lil apparatus) simply spew out random packets in all directions. if there are any 802.11 protocol type devices anywhere within its range, all traffic will seize until the device stops sending out packets (because they cannot send info until they stop receiving). my step dad (a network admin) told me this. so, theoritcally, someone could just plug their PDA into a wall, hide it in a closet in an office building and have this program running. all wireless networking will stop until the PDA freezes or until he/she wants his/her PDA back. scary eh? this could mean, if it is a hardware issue, the companies may have to recall their equipment, and come up with a new standard in wireless networking.

make sure that the unit is plugged in. it REALLY kills the battery when your transfering stuff.
