check it out... another article. http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/200503/05-013E/ looks like yhey updated their hi-md page as well http://www.sony.net/Products/Hi-MD/ oooh baby. lots of bathroom reading material! edit: some quick info:Spring 2005 marks the addition of another format for Hi-MD playback: industry-standard MP3 now joins LinearPCM and ATRAC3plus to offer a wider choice than ever. New format supported from spring 2005 MP3*2 32~320kbps *2 Playback is only possible on equipment with MP3 playback capability. MP3: Common name given to MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3. Sampling rate: 44.1kHz. Bit rates: 32~320kbps (fixed/variable). edit2: looks like we can record MP3 onto hi-mds!! recording time: 5 hrs. 4 hrs. 30 min. looks like we're stuck at 128kbps recording folks ----- Import music files stored in your computer You can import music files already on your computer's hard disk into SonicStage - if they are in the MP3, WMA*1 or WAV formats - registering them in My Library for later playback and transfer. MP3 files are transferred for playback directly from Hi-MD*2. *1 WMA music files with copyright protection cannot be converted or transferred. *2 After transfer to Hi-MD, MP3 files can be copied to other computers but they cannot be played. looks like that the mp3s are DRM WRAPPED. booooo
-
Static: when they say it supports files, that means you gotta SonciStage'em (encode to their oh-so-glorious (carcasm) format) the new hi-md will PLAY mp3 (not like last year.. it SUPPORTED mp3
-
maybe it also supports usb 2.0. the sony store by my place has some of 2004 models as usb 2. (the ignorance...)
-
1 CD in 40sec. Would that be meaning that the new units have USB 2.0? -- no.. thats regular Hi-MD speed. they're talking the 48kbps quality.

http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/P...th=n46881n47420 Its on Sony.ca! im going to go pick one up at futureshop right after work! :D! just teasing. March Fools! I was gonna do April fools, but then we would all know the release date. so, i thought that it would be appropriate to post this joke in an off topic forum, to be safe Future notice, i will be doing the exact same thing on APRIL fools day, and i'll see how many people are depsrate and, lets see how long it takes for kurisu to lockie this thread
-
so THATS where Sony gets their MD profits from.. the figures didnt add up right till now!
-
i'll try the compressed air. The wiping doesnt work as i can only clean one section at a time, and it just picks the dirt right back up within the disk i wish there was a safe, easy way to open these babies up.
-
i was having the same kind of symptoms. i brought it in, and 3 weeks later in the shop, i got it back saying "nothing wrong with unit" great. well, i opened the shutter to my hi-md and it was full of DUST. my attempts to clean the surface are failing because the clean surface picks up dust from WITHIN the cartridge. any ideas on how to resolve this?! grr. edit: fixed a not so funny typo.
-
Kurisu mentioned march 2nd.
-
both but note that the menu functions dont work with the 11el. you can do all the button stuff (playback, sound, repeat, etc) im not sure about the 33el.
-
the feature started in the *10 for MD (510, 610, etc) edi: changed the quote.. pressed the wrong one
-
the technolgy is sexy. MY GOD IS IT NOT SEXY?!?!?!
-
wow no kidding that was a great deal! but this should be appended to another post / different forum
-
sometimes newer generation models dont support all the features of older remotes. my 11el did the menu thing on my 505.. but not on my 510., as well as the 600d.
-
i am purchasing either a 710 or 910 because last year i only got the 600d. no inputs. so, this year i shall recieve inputs along with direct mp3 playback AND a bunch of unknown features . twas worth the wait i miss the functionality of the mzn510 time to bring t hat spark back
-
that is mainly for adding the driver so you can make your hi-md act as a removable device on win-ME and 98. funny.. i just found the driver on the US site http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DNA/common...p?l=en&v=&m=pad
-
yup, i have a 600D and i can only format MDs to Hi-md and back from the player. to resetting discs, moving tracks, deleting tracks (can't do that anyways.. DRM)... so restrictive.. gosh...
-
i bought the only 2 in the store when they first became available. wasnt available for another 3 months. mwahaha.
-
i will most likely get the 910. If the only feature over the r900 is that *FREAKING SEXY* display.. then i dont think its worth the 100 dollar (cdn probably) difference.
