this should be in that "hi-md plays mp3s thread". not a new thread. nevertheless... i hope as well too
-
highly doubt it would harm the player in any way. Sony wouldnt release products that would be compatible physical-wise.. but not technical wise.

i use my 11EL with the 600d. works like a charm.. i can't do menus or change groups though meh. if my mood changes, it had better be enough to pull out my player and press the ol' group button
-
lol i used it as a fast food timer in a battle between me and my friend (kudos to whoever can eat 3 soda crackers in 30 seconds (without water in the past minute))

Differences In NH600, NH700, NHF800, NH900, NH1
The_Stamp replied to yamagatacamille's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
neither the 600 or 600d come with remotes. plus, the 600 (the euro model) has no remote jack. just headphone. -

Entering Service Mode On A Hi-MD Player
The_Stamp replied to Christopher's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
my minidisc player is in the shop (can't write to hi-mds righ tnow ) so i wont be able to put up some values. AOIX, sorry to hear that man! i did that once, completely messed up my key configuration on my 510. i brought it in, saying "the keys are messed up" they took it no question after i got it back it turns out they figure out what was wrong with it, and just replaced the chipset! so, if you say exactly what kurisu says, i think you'll be in the green. -
wow.. thats one heck of a bumped thread. one whole freaking year. i think it owuld have been better to start a new thread lol good find though!

Entering Service Mode On A Hi-MD Player
The_Stamp replied to Christopher's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
hmm... after looking at http://aoix.free.fr/himd/compare_HiMD.txt.. i noticed i was in there. and what a nice layout too! i shall fill up the empy spots with more values, and btw, im in canada (so i guess the US region) -
yes, i think the most difficult part would be moving your music to hi-md. I personally use mp3 as a storage medium, then transfer to md whenever i want to listen to it. youre going to have to re-record the songs (or re-rip from cd's) to the new minidisc, unfortunately =/. as for sound... hi-md's LP2 is fine to my ears!
-
i read hints of hi-md being able to play mp3's directly (no conversion) but most likely they'll put DRM on that. as for the future of hi-md in general? well, solid state memory will eventually hold the walkman market in the future, because of it having no moving parts, unless there is a way to increase the writing speed of the hi-md, and shrink the size of the data sectors quickly. so ya, the near future, hi-md looks pretty good. far future, not so good. not exactly the response you wanted eh? oh, sony comes out with new models of minidisc every year. so yes.

Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread? [part III]
The_Stamp replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
where can i get them? -
umm.. correction. the 700 has the AA slot built in. the 900 usues a gumstick battery, but you can attach a AA pack. great recorder? they both record at the exact same quality. playback, the 900 has a high def circuit, so the sound will be more clear. doesnt affect the actual music file though. hope this helps

Hack for the MZ-NHF800 available yet?
The_Stamp replied to sknight's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
we are in the midst of figuring it out. http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=6539 -
but you can use LP4 and LP2 on hi-mds, thank god thats my preferred bitrate.
-
i believe that the kind of compression that atrac does is much better than the comporession for mp3. atrac makes things softer as the bitrate decreases, but mp3 garbages them up. atrac3+ 48 kbots is much better tha 48 kbits mp3, in my opinion (although i do my stuff in 192 kbps , i sometimes do 48 to distribute on the net)
-
1: yes you can, but only tracks that have no DRM on it 2: yes, its as good as any other program out there, but you can only burn tracks with no DRM (only mp3) 3: if you like atrac3 sound quality, and you have an atrac3 CD player, then sure. might as well go for mp3, becuase all atrac3 cd players also have mp3 decoder on them. kinda pointless really, unless you downloaded a song from Connect.
-
no, unfortunately, not yet. only that expensive beast of a machine =/ thats because card readers just plug into the computer, and expect the commands to copy, read or write. if you plug it into a hi-md, the hialso expects the commands to read, copy or write. so you'll have two sitting ducks. The mcmd-r1 has a button that initiates the copy command. another note is that memory reader require power, and the hi-md's power is already being used. no falsh memory writer has a batt slot, because its always been powered by the usb port =/. kinda dissapointing, eh?
-
and isnt the dimensions different also? someone, please go to your sony store and see if it even fits!

I agree with marcnet. His answers are all correct edit: a bit of clarification 4) its supposed to be a meg per second, but its really like 400 kb/s. and whats worse, the more files you transfer over, the longer it takes to transfer. like 40 1mb files will transfer slower than 1 40mb file. its prabably becuase the HI-MD has to keep going to the TOC after each file =/ so i suggest you zip the files up. it will be much faster (and if you do too many files at one time, the hi-md may lock up! happened to me once, trabsfered like 70 mp3's in onw go =/. sonic stage files atrac3 files work like a charm when trabsfering tho =/ go figure.)
-
you gotta buy the remote seperately, and is compatible with all previous remote models of any disk player released by sony
-
go for the 900. I'd go nh1, but there isnt much benefit.
-
perhaps they made it to go together with the upcomind atrac to wav converter. hmm, come to think of it, perhaps the atrac to wav converter would only support the atrac3plus files, since this new one only supports atrac3plus. =/

very very nice! one request, could you "futurize" the posting buttons? ive seen those pill shaped things everywhere . Good job!

Before Hi-MD came out, I got the salespeople at the sony store so interested in the events of hi-md, now they ask me questions regarding the technology! example: lets say "Mark" asks me if you can upload previous recordings with netmd and before. Naturally, i said "nope, without doing it Analog". so hes like "darn, i guess i'll be expecting a return soon, he recorded his entire LP collection on MD" im like "yup, but sony may just drop the DRM on the NEW hi-md, but the old MD is toast." hes like "awww."
