  1. ^ This is incorrect. If you rip a CD to LP2 in SS, and transfer it to a Hi-MD formatted disc, it will work without additional transcoding. To get the rip to be in LP2, you should choose Atrac3 as the codec, and 132k as the bitrate. You can choose this by clicking the "Format / Bit Rate" button in the Record a CD page.
  2. Did you transfer the file to the computer before using the Wav converter?
  3. Why did I have my reply to this thread deleted?
  4. I don't quite understand the problem here. The recording is saved on your Hi-MD in OMA format. If you recorded in PCM, the music is in WAV wrapped up in DRM. If you recorded compressed, it is in Atrac format wrapped in DRM. There is no change here compared to NetMD, except you can now record in PCM, and you can transfer to your PC. When you transfer the file to your PC, there is no change made to the content of your file. It is saved to your drive in OMA format. Then the WAV converter takes your file and turns your recording into a WAV file. If it is PCM, then it goes to WAV, if its atrac, it goes to WAV. Yes there are a number of steps which means some points of failure, but if it all works, it is what people have been asking for.
  5. For all the outrage that was caused when it was discovered that Hi-MD recordings couldn't be converted to WAV initially, there seems to have been a very muted response to the release of this software.
  6. Is it possible to transfer using Fake-SP in sonicstage 2.x? I can't find the bitrate in my copy.
  7. Just tried NH600D - also no go.
  8. "The look and feel of the software used with its devices ..." This is the bit that implies that sonicstage will be improved. It probably will be improved, but the question is...when???
  9. The problem with this software is that Sony has only got half the equation so far. itunes and ipod are popular also because of their ease of use. This MP3 file transfer software is a very basic piece of software that does nothing for ease of use. There are so many flash players in the market that you can directly transfer MP3s to. There isn't a lot of differentiation in Sony's product. Sony needs to get the software side of things working so the user experience is generally pleasant. In the news.com reports, Sony says they will be improving on their software....hopefully they will deliver on this.
  10. No one is saying you can transfer files using this tool to a Hi-MD. But you could try and see if it is successful. So far people have tried with the HD1 player (transfers but no playback) and the NW-MS70D memory stick walkman (transfers but no playback). No tests done on Hi-MD as yet.
  11. It appears there are contradictions in the documentation from Sony regarding native MP3 playblack. I would say that it has native playback as this MP3 file transfer software is the same as that supplied with NW-E50 and E70 in Asia. These network walkmans play MP3. Actually I would hazard a guess that if you used the MP3 file transfer software with the NW-e55 and E75, they would play MP3s too. Check out the software here - but it's a Chinese version: http://www.sony.com.cn/newsite2002/sonyele...e/mp3/step1.asp
  12. If you get an Asian version (say from bluetin.com) then their voltage is the same as Australia.
  13. ^ I think the stability of SS has a lot to do with the state of your computer. I'm quite careful of limiting what is installed on my computer, and keeping it clean, and my SS 2.2 never crashes, never causes me problems.
  14. Unfortunately, at this stage UMD will be a ROM format. There are likely to be movies released on UMD format - great for train / plane etc trips. But in order to make you buy both the DVD and the UMD format of the movie, there is no video out on the PSP so you won't be able to hook it up to your TV. Hopefully the battery life of PSP will have improved by the time of release. Early reports put it at 2-3 hours while watching video which is useless for a long trip.
  15. It is the first Sony product to support MP3 since the announcement, however it is not the first Sony product to support MP3. Clies, CD Walkmans, DVD players and home-theaters-in-a-box have supported MP3 for a while, and more recently that Video Vaio Pocket, and the NW-E70 and NW-E50 available in some parts of asia have been able to play back MP3s natively.
  16. You can upload the optically recorded tracks to the PC, but like all other uploads, the only thing you can do is to transfer to another MD or play it back on your computer. When Sony releases its Wav Converter, if the reports are correct, optically recorded uploads will not be able to be converted to wav. Only recordings made via analog input will be able to be converted.
  17. Are you using SS 2.2 as available at www.connect.com ? I was under the impression this version could burn audio CDs on non Vaios. I have a vaio so I can't say. Anyway, if it doesn't allow you to burn audio CDs, use this hack: http://www.minidisct.com/forum/showthread....&threadid=21690
  18. SS 2.x allows you to split tracks. But the tool is kind of rudimentary.
  19. Yes that's true. You can even record directly on the MD in PCM quality using Optical in and transfer that back to the PC. Once it's on the PC, you won't be able to do anything with it apart from transfer it to other MDs.
  20. You can only upload from a Hi-MD formatted disc, which means that any recordings will have been made in atrac3plus or PCM. So I think it's safe to assume that the atrac to wav tool will only support atrac3plus.
  21. This might give you some answers to your questions. http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=5816
  22. Regardless, marcnet, because of your hard work, we have an alternative to Sony's software to decode those tracks that Sony's software won't decode.
  23. Use SonicStage 2.1 or 2.2 - you can get it from www.connect.com When you rip a CD in SS, you get the choice to rip to OpenMG Audio PCM. Then you get WAV quality and it won't be compressed when transferred to Hi-MD.

    tmpgenc

I can't find the software in the link for tmpgenc as mentioned on the front page of minidisc.org. When you link to the site and then go to the English site, the only version of tmpgenc available for download is an old version of it? Has anyone tried this software for oma conversion? Does it only do real-time decoding? I have used it for video to VCD conversion before, and it worked basically in real-time.

    Sonic Stage 2.2

I just installed it...so far it seems to be a Connect branded version of SS. It's called "SonicStage for Connect", and now the Connect page is slightly more user friendly - not as much space is taken up by the SonicStage border so you can see more of the store. But the store itself looks like the same on the inside. So far that's all I've picked up as a difference.
