Thanks for the clarification, Dex. Although, I still haven't figured out how to edit the wav file in Audacity. Any tips? I have an old version of Wavelab. It's a very good program and is what I was using for making CD's from MD (pre Hi-MD). I'm gonna see if it's possible to use it for steps 2,3, and 4. Instead of using 3 different applications for these steps.

Dex or Kurisu or anyone, It is my understanding that in addition to SS to play and Audacity (or TR) to record, a third software is needed to divide (or generally edit) the resulting .wav file and then burn it to CD. Is this correct or am I not finding editing tools in Audacity (I have only tried Audacity so far...)? Also, I just invested in a new PC largely in part for making CD's from my Hi-MD (my last PC was so old it didn't meet SS min system req's). I would like to keep it clean and light on it's feet by not installing too much software. Does anyone have experience with both Audacity and TR that can suggest not bothering with TR? If I load it on my machine and try it for myself and find that I prefer Audacity, will uninstalling TR completely remove it with out leaving any leftover 'residue'? Thanks...

I ordered mine from NYC (Datavis), blanks from Brooklyn (etronics). I'd suggest researching online for prices and addresses before you go. Maybe printout some of the lowest quoted prices. You shouldn't have a problem finding in NYC, but prepare yourself for bargaining with hardened New York retailers...

Live concert recording comment on pre-set 'Loud Music' MZNH1
reefbeef replied to johnnyk's topic in Live Recording
I recommend using manual setting and adjusting the mic sensitivity (must be done in rec pause). Then snap fingers in front of mic (about 4 inches away) to make sure ur getting signals and levels aren't too high or too low. Do this mic in. Better yet get a 9V batttery module and go line in (but still do same settings in rec pause). Leave in Pause Rec with the 'hold' on until it's showtime. Then un'hold' and press pause to start recording, then turn 'hold' back on. -
Right, this seems to be a slight improvement. The last Sony I owned was an MZ-R90. On this unit, even when I went back into manual everytime I started pause Rec, the levels were in some random position. On my NH1, the levels and mic sens setting appear to remain the same. Atleast we don't have to reset 3 things (manual, level, mic sens); just switch to manual. But this is still not nearly as convenient and stealth friendly as my Sharp DR7.

The NH1 must be in Pause Rec to switch to manual level adjustment, but once recording one can change levels on the fly. Recorder goes back to AGC when 'stop' is pressed.

dex, This thread doesn't appear to have come to any concrete conclusions... It sounds as though SS should work with Virtual PC but noone has truly verified?
-
Dex, When using the method you've described, does SonicStage freeze the tracks on the HiMD as stated in the NH1 manual on page 113? Or are you simply playing the tracks from the HiMD and not really uploading them to SS, therefore leaving ability to divide, unite tracks on the disc intact?

Got a five pack in the mail from Etronics.com yesterday. They are based in Brooklyn.

Dex, What about a Mac with Virtual PC?
-
Yeah, I was sidetracking a bit. The statements on that page shook me up. But I hear what you're saying. The 80 min discs aren't bad for Hi-SP recording; almost 2.5 hrs. But only 28 mins of LPCM.

Rumz, My suggestion is to order from SonyStyle. Shipping on 2 discs was 7.50 NEXT DAY to Chicago. It was like $30 for a five pack. I ordered them late sunday night (mon morning) and got them yesterday (tuesday). Also, I just got an email from Etronics that they shipped my 5 pack. It's due to arrive Friday. Larry B- Expectations on functionality were reduced for me when reading page 113 of the NH1 manual : )

I emailed etronic back and asked for a free shipping upgrade and they did (to 3 day air from ground). But still...who knows when they'll get restocked.
-
I ordered 2 from SonyStyle, they were $7 a piece and shipping was only 7.50 for NEXT DAY AIR; the catch is if I bumped up the quantity, the shipping price soared. This makes sense cuz I guess you can just throw a couple in a padded envelope. So I ordered two from there to get for a concert tonight, and a 5 pack from etronics (ground shipping was like $7) Still can't find in any local stores. But after I placed my order at SonyStyle and followed up with a phone call, the guy suggested trying Target, Walmart, Best Buy or Circuit City. But I doubt any of them are stocked...

What is the radio shack item number to search for a HiMD blank? I've been to two locations here in Chicago, and even when the employees searched the computer, nothing came up.

OK well then anyone out there who is also dreaming of an NH1 uploading to a G4 laptop...PLEASE...lets see if it's possible. I may be able to come across a G4 with Virtual PC on it...hopefully I'll try to install SS 2.1 on it and hook up my NH1. Edit: My buddy with the G4 is sleepin on getting Virtual PC. Don't wait for me...sorry.

oops..

I think they are thinking that most people will be satisfied with a supplied 1G disc to start. But I plan on using it to record live music in PCM so I need more discs!!!
-
Oh, so you're the one who bought all the crutchfield stock... Thanks for the radio shack tip. I'll check the local stores here...

Ordered mine Wednesday around lunch, got it today (Friday) with 2 day guarantee shipping. Can't wait to get home from work... BTW, never got email confirmation, never had cell phone problem. Kaotic- Why not just order an NH1 for $10 more than what we were expecting the 900 to cost and enjoy the all metal body, 40 grams lighter, etc... When I ordered on Wed they said they had 17 of 'em...

Anyone found HiMD blanks for sale anywhere?
-
I used a cell phone, too. I haven't received a tracking number via email either, but they said it shipped when I called and gave them my order number. How did you check your tracking? I live in Chicago, and from NYC to Chi, it's usually pretty fast probly cuz it's a well beaten path. But since the price was so good, I just popped for the 2-day to try to get b4 the weekend...

I ordered Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Chicago time and followed up with phone calls to see if it would ship out same day. At 5:30 p.m., they said it had shipped...Have to check my work email tomorrow for tracking...2 Day Shipping, hoping arrives Friday...
