I've had two good transactions with etronics.com. The order shipped fast and if you need anything else (last time I ordered a 10 pack HiMD blanks and a pair of Sony Fontopia headphones) they usually have it at a slightly lower price than others. They are based in Brooklyn NYC.

Does anyone have a solution to this? I would like to continue to use wav converter. I have searched other threads and it seems as though others are having this problem, but I have not come across a solution. Do a lot of people have this problem? Has anyone figured out a way around it?

Hello All, I have been trying to convert live recordings from the SS 2.3 Library with the .wav converter. I am having 2 problems: 1. It always stops converting at some percentage under 100%. I then have to press stop and figure out which tracks it actually converted, and then convert the rest. 2. The tracks that do get converted are all out of order. Is there a reason for this? Otherwise, the tracks that get converted sound great. Thanks...

I use this: http://www.precision-camera.com/page/PCV/PROD/7600-000 It works very nicely. Has belt clip. Front pouch holds 2 HiMD's out of cases, or a small t mic. Froogle search the model number. Should be able to find for $7.

I use my NH1 for recording live music so I have no need for MP3. The only reason I would be interested in the new models is if they take care of two pains in the booty: 1. Remembers last manual recording setting and defaults to it. 2. Doesn't make annoying track marks at low volume points while going 'Line In.' In other words, I'd buy one if it was more like a Sharp!!! (but with sony style)

I have been using the Line In for recording my own gigs (piano trio only so far, very soft to very loud dynamics). I put the manual recording level all the way up and get OK levels, but they are on the low side. Having the 9V battery in the microphone is what allows you to go Line In. The mic needs some sort of voltage. Mic In gives 1.5V, Line In nothing.

I am getting great results with my NH1 and an NT4. I have only gone Line In so far, but imaging mic in would work as well. Anyone know how the 1.5 volts coming from the Mic In affects this type of mic, if at all?

Oh, I think I understand. SS 'decodes' when playing the HiMD via USB and 'encodes' when downloading music in a non atrac format? Is this correct? And you're suggesting that the decoder in SS is probably very similar to that of the recorder so the upload is still lossless. Correct? Thanks...

When using the real time upload method, we record the stream sent to the sound card while playing the data on the HiMD through SS. My question: Are we recording the HiMD (hardware) codec or SS' s poorer version?
-
Jadeclaw, Have you tried the latest Intel 'HD Audio'? Is it better in this regard?
-
But the sound input is through the USB port?
-
Thanks for the update Dex- For me, this makes your real time upload method the only choice for material that just can't be lost.

WAIT!!! Can you try and see if the real time upload method (discussed in this forum) works?

microphone sensitivity and manual recording level on MZ-R90
reefbeef replied to ark's topic in Live Recording
The MZ-R90 was my first MD recorder. I always had to set the manual rec level way down. About 5-7 notches up from zero. Sound Pro's makes a 20 dB attenuator that I think does pretty much what the mic sensitivity settings on later models does. Or, you can buy a battery module and go line in. -
First let me say that I in no way intend to undermine your efforts. It sounds as though you are a brilliant programmer and many are/will be extremely grateful for your program. I will probably be included amongst these people soon after I do some further investigating. What I meant by freedom is that with this method, we simply use SS to play from the HiMD recorder, and then the stream that it sends to the sound card is read and recorded by TR or Audacity. So we never upload. It is my understanding that we only have one chance to upload recordings and after we do, the tracks are locked on the HiMD recorder (no more editing can be done, i.e., combine, divide). So with the method of this thread, we reserve the one time upload chance, and retain editing capabilities on the HiMD disc. And still get a digital transfer -- but of course it's real time. This is what I meant by freedom. This is Sony, not you or your method. I don't think there's a way around this. Do you? I'd also like to add that it sounds as though your method is rather accurate from the posting others have made. But I record mostly jazz performances (either my gigs or Masters at clubs) and it's such an organic, spiritual thing that if the flow of time is interrupted (ableit probably very minute)...ya know? But I will try your method once I have a recording that I'm sure the editing on the disc is good enough for eternity and feel confident about uploading it. Hope I cleared up the 'freedom' thing. And, again, I think you and your method are brilliant. Thank you.

Questions/Comments for Marc's uploading utility.
reefbeef replied to journalist's topic in Hi-MD Renderer Forum
When using the real time upload method, SS would pause briefly for each track mark on the Hi-MD. When we transfer the files up and convert to .wav, are these pauses still there? -
Thanks, A440. I couldn't find this anywhere. Man, this is where all the valuable settings are. Can't believe their online help didn't direct me here. For playback and recording device it gives choice between 'Microsoft Sound Mapper' (XP OS) or 'Realtek AC97 Audio' (which is the integrated sound card) Is one better to use than the other? Thanks again A440. Lifesaver...

I am sticking with this method due to it's freedom and accuracy. I hope people are still offering advice here... I am using Audacity and when pressing record, I get a mono track. When I open a new stereo track and press record, it automatically opens up a new mono track? Anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong?

Upload recordings to a .wav onto pc faster than realtime.

jadeclaw, If the volume settings window has a 'wave' section, does that mean a wave channel is available?
-
Does anyone know how to tell Audacity to only record for a certain amount of time? Since this method is real time, it'd be nice to be able to get the process going, turn off the monitor and go to bed. Is this possible to do with Audacity? Is it possible with Total Recorder?
-
I suggest investing in SP's mini battery module which will allow you to run the mic through 'line in' and absorb louder sounds without distorting. I would stick with the manual rec level setting. I know it's a pain to set every time, but hopefully Sharp will rescue us soon...

This method (I know it's not fully developed yet) freezes the tracks on the Hi-MD, right? (page 113 of NH1 manual.) That is one nice thing about Dex's method. You don't lose any freedom... -
AHHH! SS pauses on all the track marks!!! I have them every 3 mins just for easy navigation on the disc. Is there any way around this besides going in and combining all the tracks?

Want a NICE cheap soundcard with digital out and more?
reefbeef replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
Does this card have SPDIF or Optical in? For MD recordings I am using an external A/D converter that outputs SPDIF. Will this card accept?
