  1. How about not ever needing an update, or crashing on you, like certain horrible white players that turn people into zombies? How about unrestricted recording and uploading capabilities, in WAV? How about being well built and not turning into bricks overnight?
  2. Due to the amount of risks and gambles Sony has been taking trying to shove their proprietary formats down people's throats, they need to recover their costs by... how can I say it... expanding themselves to other areas. (Read: Harlotry)

Hello. Can someone explain to me how can they tell if a person is upset because his wife just died from someone who is disgusted at the USA and wants to blow it up?
  4. I think I've heard this story before, dating all the way back to cassette tape players. The lights flicker when he's alone? Reminds me of "Mystery Men" and Invisible Boy, who's only invisible when no one's looking at him.
  5. Fudge. I am keeping all my MD units. With all the DRM stuff in Vista, the RIAA and the MPAA lobbying to restrict even humming music without paying a license, MD's may become some sort of forbidden (but really sought-after) units in the post-nuclear future.
  6. If you're creating an audio CD, you can convert those 48 kbps files to wav (will sound like crap, but GIGO) using HI-MD renderer, and put an audio CD together with Nero or WMP.
  7. Could it be the disc itself? Or does it happen with every disc?
  8. Just format your standard disc to Hi-MD mode, and that's it.
  9. Something that gets on my nerves is people in another forum that don't understand that lossles=lossless=lossless. They claim and insist that the compression (For crying out loud, people... it's packing, not compressing!) degrades the signal. Even if the reconstructed-from-FLAC wave file is identical, bit-by-bit to the original used to create such FLAC.
  10. No, but those head units should detect the HDD as just another data storage device and read and play music files off it.
  11. Suggested. Not proven with data and evidence. There shouldn't be any degradation because what you're doing is actually copy the data of the recording to your computer, bit by bit. If you are recording in PCM, all that SS does is remove the DRM and OMA container, and leaves you with an untainted WAV. PCM=WAV. If you feel more comfortable, import your files without converting them to wav (disable that option). Once imported, close SS and use HI-MD Renderer to convert to wav. Again. Until Sony releases the source code, there is no way to import to the computer without sonicstage. Unless bits and bytes are being lost when you transfer/copy the music or files to your computer, there shouldn't be anything to be concerned about. No one ever says anything about pictures, MP3's (Ipod, Zen, or any other MP3 player) losing quality when transferred to and from the host computer, which is exactly what HI-MD does. So, repeat after me, people: Uploading to the computer from HI-MD is just copying the data that is already in the Hi-MD. If A=B and B=C, then A=C. It's not like we're using vacuum tubes and cheap flat antenna cable to work here.
  12. http://www.century.co.jp/products/suto/cdiu2.html I use this baby in conjuction with a laptop HDD (Formatted in FAT32). No external power required, as my PS2 can make it run via the USB ports. A desktop HDD would require external power, though.
  13. Why does it need to connect to the web, if it never stored the info of your uploaded songs to begin with? This tool is intended to be used with files downloaded from the Connect store, but Sony saw it fit to brand every user a potential pirate and cause this inconvenience... On the other hand, every User of SS should un-DRM their songs if they are still in OMA format, and back them up ASAP. I'm glad I did.
  14. Don't touch those HMA. Contrary to what you may think, those are NOT your recordings, rather some index files that MD needs to work properly. Your recordings are not visible from within windows. You may want to try Marcnet's awesome Hi-MD Renderer, available from the downloads section of this forum. It can also convert to OGG and MP3 with the proper DLL, but first you must have transfered your music to the computer via SonicStage.
  15. Not if you build it yourself. Newegg and WIn Xp Pro with SP2 FTW.
  16. Or you can use Marcnet's Hi-MDRenderer, too.
  17. We better make a note of this. WMP behaving jealously... who would have thought about it?
  18. Grrr. Hope they get the bastards. Burn them at the stake. An eye for an eye, I say.
  19. Are they variable bitrate? SS chokes on those sometimes.
  20. Because I-pods suck. No, really. My MD's have suffered all kinds of torture and still go on trucking. My brother's ipod died on the (original) charger. Left it overnight working just fine, and in the morning it was bricked. Go figure. Warning: Strong language.
  21. No, can't import back to the computer using a Net-MD unit. You'll need an RH-1 to do that.
  22. Gabriel... you're aware this is a Minidisc forum, right? And that all your posts are related to Winblows Vista (Which you don't really need, as it doesn't do anything that XP can't right now)... and that we know squat about Vista support? And that MS is supposed to give you support on it, for free, on the phone, for one full year? I'm sorry to sound like a jerk, but are you some sort of undercover anti-MS propagandist? All you've done so far is tell us that Vista sucks (News flash: DUH!). Two words: Not here. Google for data recovery services. Sorry, mods. But this is getting out of hand. EDIT: February 9 You're either a spammer bot, an amnesiac or you somehow move backwards in time.
  23. Nothing else. Just right-click your ATRAC/OMA files and select Open with>>> WMP. And That's it.
