i'd also recommend soundforge 7. does all the stuff audacity does & can work in atrac, including netMD transfers. bit more costly but academic versions aren't too bad
  2. sorry, all i meant is i can pick SP from LP2 & LP4 but the sound quality isn't as important to me as to others. respect to you if you care about quality, i don't care so much
  3. i do realise that. pcm is drm wav & there is 256 atrac3+ aac is all very well on an ipod, but then i'm not one to argue - i do most of my recording in lp2 that is to say, i don't have a leg to stand on, morally.
  4. codecs are in the openMG package that SS/SB/Real all use. you've probably recorded at the lowest bitrate, LP4 change the transfer quality to LP2 for a marked improvement
  5. it works for me to do it yourself try pressing ctrl + I when connected to the internet. also you should update to ss 2.1/2.2 via either www.connect-europe.com or www.connect.com location dependant if this dosen't solve it got to tools -> options -> get cd info -> cddb register for cddb click detailed cd info make sure you have the proxy settings sutible for you [trial & error]
  6. 3wx3w isn't too bad. the ones that get most people upset are 1.2w x 1.2w like the euro n710. if you aren't using demanding headphones it should give you any grief
  7. did you install sonicstage on partition D? if not on the same drive sonicstage can get nasty. doubt it'll help but if the answer's no, then try uninstalling & reinstalling on the same drive.
  8. don't get real player. the only real options at the moment are the newer versions of SS [2.1, 2.2] that are a lot more user friendly & stable than previous versions & both work well with simple burner. read the faqs here...
  9. apart from the cheapest or entry level, net & himd are capable of recording in realtime via optical &/or analog. you may as well go for a himd as price is about the same for netmd & the greater range of recording formats plus greater capacity discs are complemented by full backward compatibility with your old discs
  10. how big is a hi-md formatted 80min ? is it something like 640 meg?
  11. yeah i got one as well. the problem is they sell at RRP so getting 10% off & your still paying more than from jb hifi or a good electronics store. the only thing i'd be interested in would be the vaio but they aren't quite that dumb... you in melbourne?
  12. <- thanks for that. i'll wear it as a badge of pride, refugee no longer
  13. this is the next gen chip for the new sony cd walkman. it is also rumoured to be in the next batch of Himd, tho there has been nothing official on that. it's also the reason that current himd owners are kidding themselves if they think retrofitting would work - if it did why make this at all? http://www.toshiba-components.com/prpdf/5536E.pdf
  14. go on ban my arse. K hope your personal stuff work out man.
  15. none of the ipod models offer any external recording with a pc. in this instance your best bet is himd although if you really want a HD player the iriver h120/140 & new h300 series offer line in although recording options are more limited.
  16. just a bit of construtive criticism. seems like the majority of posters are on staff, in fact there seems to be a 1:2 ratio of mods/admin to newb question askers. i realise there are 3000 registered users but how many of the active users are moderating each other?
  17. ^ that's just the same as openMG 2.2 / sonic stage 1.5 when you reinstall the new version all those files get removed. the only thing that stays is the database. seems to me like the databse is corrupted. do the full uninstall. keep the md unplugged. reboot. install SS2.2 from connect, create new databse when asked. reboot. plug in md & start SS. if it works then install SB. easy, right?

this is in the wrong forum. btw you probably have it in folder shuffle. there is two shuffle options folder & library. folder is the current album library is the whole disk
  19. actually your pretty wrong. it is a mass storage device. it'll store files but you can't access them from the himd, to all intents & purposes its a hard disk. it's also usb 1.1, so not that fast, it's a bonus for people who like md anyway - not a reason to buy it. there is still no drag & drop for music, it still needs to go through sonicstage & be converted & transferred.
  20. they've "improved" connect once in the last month or so, in the transition from ss2.1 -> 2.2. it's been re-skinned & is a little less buggy. don't hold your breath, tiger
  21. the big question is whether any of the units you have or are hoping to have can be retro fitted by firmware? unless they have a decoder that can read mp3 along with atrac then you are dreaming.
  22. ^how many years have you had it? say 4 how much did it cost you per year/month/week/day? so have you got your moneys worth yet? sounds to me as though you've broken it, however even if they look at it for free the parts will probably cost more than a new lo-end himd. so why repair a 3 gens old md, that something else may go wrong in the next couple of months anyway when with a new one for the samish price you get access to newer tech [netmd/himd] & a new warranty. QED
  23. that would be netMD fake SP [aka LP2 132kbs recorded for backwards compaibility with non-LP] not HiMD Hi-SP
