  1. welcome to the rewarding world of sony software usage. windows update & many AV updaters use this tactic too, of course you can just not click the button until you are finished with whatever else you're doing. anyway sony's aproach to customer relations ozes through to all facets of it's products, yet somehow still manage to be rewarding occasionally.
  2. good day to you & a nice idea i'm a memeber of many other boards, although i only use about three of them more than monthly. here, the t-station md board www.minidisct.com/forum/index.php?s= & a tottenham hotspur FC msg board www.glory-glory.net
  3. well they've continued to release sports flash, pcdp, boomboxes so the ethic is still there, maybe next generation it'll be availible
  4. also get a reasonable quality 3.5mm to 3.5mm female to male cable so one end that the mike can plug into & one end with the 'spike' keep the mike a foot or so away from the make sure that all the sounds you hear are not from the motor noise.
  5. this happened to me three times & i was ready to ignore the update. try again at a diferent time of day. is it halfway through the third module by any chance? it happened to me using planetMG asia

    MD => PC

it's an analog uploading utility for netmd units that read's the toc & cddb to make analog copies of minidiscs to either sonictage or cd. it was made by a user of md not afiliated to any of the companies as far as i know. he was/is a user here under the user name tmeg
  7. it's not actually backlit. it's the way the picture looks & it's very misleading. you could buy a new remote that has a backlight from www.audiocubes.com www.bluetin.com www.minidisc.com.au
  8. sony aren't exactly a responsive, open, user friendly company. the grunts know little or nothing & the higher ups are for all intents & purposes invisible
  9. have you tried running sonic stage under virtual pc 7? aparently some people get full functionality
  10. the omg/oma files are drm with encryption that is installation specific. i guess that's a good reason to use the provided sonicstage backuptool occasionally. i've never had the problem you mention as i keep all files apart from SS, only importing when needed. i guess i'm just not a jukebox kinda guy
  11. eggos are comfortable, have good sound on a portable, drive well through low power units like minidiscs & are fairly robust. anyone who hates on them is probably buying very expensive headphones & is a real quality-head. i think you'd be verry happy with them although they aren't the bassiest around
  12. www.connect-europe.com or http://www.planetmg.com/NewProd/sony-asia/...e2.3/index.html for the asia/oceania version sans connect music store

Tomdiaz how long ago did you purchase your md? afaik that is not something that should be happening & i would consider returning it to the place of purchase for a replacement

out of interest has anyone tried winMD with a himd?
  15. as i don't use lp4 for anything other than voice recordings i'm unqualified to help you. perhaps you should try doing it? the disclaimer is that lp2 leaves artefacts in the sound, lp4 leaves many more... transcoding from compressed to further compressed can make these worse in some peoples opinion.
  16. on XP #2 would be covered there nis. it'd show up as a removable drive same as MS, ipods, thumb drives &c. as far as linux goes, as long as the distro copes with plugnplay usb devices i assume the nh800 would work also.
  17. excuse the ignorance, but what speed is the WD raptor, 7200? faster?
  18. 1/ yes 2/ yes most people can hear the diference between lp2 & original source material, however it's not so bad as to make it worthless as a great trade off between space & quality. lp4 on the other hand is outside high noise environs quite terrible at least to my ears. i only use it for talking books. be aware also true sp mode does not cd equal cd-raw either. since this posted in the hi-md section you may wish to ask a himd owner about the other ATRAC3+ variants, not having had any experience myself, i'll stay out of it.
  19. actually a fair point there, on a reasonable computer the transfer process per song takes almost no time at all. the real bottleneck is the write head moving across the disc at a slow speed, at least compared to the ipod/generic dap. whether this irritates you is a personal thing. i like removable media myself but i'm looking beyond md for my next player, i may well buy an hd3. btw i have used 3g, 4g & minis & i don't like them much. awesome looking excellent interface but they don't make me go wow, i want one. too streamlined? too simplified maybe? don't have the constant battle against the software?
  20. i can't view any profile. no detective work for me then
  21. himd or nwhd1? sounds to me like davidrobe10's confused it a little. of course i'd be happy to be proved wrong.
  22. ^you just keep posting that. meanwhile i wouldn't let real player & they're cruddy bloatware anywhere near my PCs
  23. www.connect.com or www.connect-europe.com has the latest versions of the netMD software. unplug your md before installing & don't use realplayer
  24. 1. whether I could use the new hard disc unit to store perhaps 100 cd's at an equivalent quality to the "old" minidisc I know and like (not bought it yet) yes 2. whether I can keep a library of CD's on my PC in that quality compression and download them to the hard disc portable more than once (if necessary) yes 3 whether I could use that PC library to stream by wireless network to my hi-fi without losing quality. not that i know of 4 whether there is software that would convert an analogue signal from vinyl to linear PCM so that I can upload my old vinyl to PC if you buy a copy of soundforge you can do this straight to atrac3/3+ or for wav files try freeware audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ 5. whether sonic stage would convert those linear PCM files on my PC to Atrac3+ so that I could store the vinyl in high quality Atrac format (which is what I use my old minidisc deck for). yes although because of the DRM requirements you could only transfer from the oine PC. no copying files to transfer from another pc [unless you use soundforge, see above]
