  1. 24-bit/96kHz recording (pipe dream) optical out a component deck the ability to seek to a specific point in time instead of slowly fast-forwarding through a long track. better/more editing options on the unit itself a spectrum analyzer on the remote during playback a wee bit faster read/write speed, maybe 1Mbyte per second instead of 500-700Kbytes atrac3+ 96kbps
  2. Got bored at work and was comparing encoded files to their wav counterparts. I noticed clips in one of the files I was screwing around with... http://canopus.syphen.net/hi-md/hisp-clip/ Something in the encode/decode train is causing this. Since I can't open OMG directly in Audition I can't tell if SonicStage/codec is doing this or HiMDRender. *shrugs* Seemed interesting...
  3. Yea, I know, but sometimes it's multichannel or no channel, and it'd be nice to have the higher fidelity copy to listen to elsewhere besides the home theater. </pipe_dream>
  4. Sony MDR-7509's are an option in that price range and configuration.
  5. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...u=286756&is=REG I think B&H will ship to UK.
  6. Too bad there's no analog means to easily downmix multichannel SACD to 2ch Stereo. At least with DVD-A most offer 2ch versions of the multichannel tracks.
  7. Just PM'd you with a direct download url.
  8. That still won't let you transfer off the MD a second time Ultimately yes, there's realtime. But what's the point of Sony offering the option to upload quickly if you can only do it once. If it's a copyrighted work and I upload a bootleg recording then blast the wav out to a million people I've still pirated the work. Even if I realtime it back to PC, and make a perfect digital copy with Total Recorder, I've pirated the work. It's just a stupid assumption on Sony's part that the one upload will prevent piracy or whatnot.
  9. IPB isn't marking fora I've read through as having no new content in them, but only on some fora. I constantly have the darker minidisc icon indicating new entries for things like Hi-MD and Live Recording even after I went through and read all new messages... Odd.
  10. It's a lame extra set of steps. Plus, *twiddles MD in fingers*, this is the archival medium. Why should you have to upload AND archive on CDR or DVD when you have the original on the MD? At work this is a bigger problem. When we record conference presenters on the MD as backup for our streams we'd like to just toss the MD in a box. Then at a later date pull that conference off if needed. Sometimes we get requests a year later for conference audio. Now if we uploaded that track once to fix an issue we had during the event then we need to be really careful about archiving that upload on a file server/DVD/CD/etc.. Otherwise it's gone if someone doesn't realize and uploads a second time. It's an added data management step that really isn't needed and is prone to error (deleted tracks).
  11. 2.3 is definitely quicker than 2.1 was. I'd guess it's more stable, in that I've had 2.1 crash on me once and 2.3 never. I have not had tracks trashed on upload (yet). If I want music management I use an age old technique, directories . I store all my CD's on a file server in Monkeys Audio and decompress/import/transfer the wavs with SS whenever I need to. I remove them immediately and delete the OMGs after transferring. I don't see a point to SS for 'managing' music. What more do you need to manage?
  12. If you look REAL close at the icon next to the track in Sonic Stage it does change after you've uploaded once. Not much of a reminder, it's easy to gloss over the change in icon. They should really just refuse to transfer the track and not delete it. Kinda lame that they toast it.
  13. Not usually. If it was a blank disc to start with that should be sufficient. What model recorder are you using, and what type/brand of minidisc?
  14. Thanks, Dex. That cleared up alot.
  15. You can work around this by using Total Recorder and recording playback of the Hi-MD when they are connected to the USB port of your computer. OR use the upload capability of Hi-MD. This covers all the 'upload' options of Hi-MD. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7436
  16. Why do I see people using pre-amps for gear that already output a line level? I thought the point was to bring a source to a line level for further amplification. Am I missing something? (edit: This applies to hi-fi stereo gear.)
  17. ... we do know it was us who scorched the sky ... <insert matrix here>
  18. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...ct%5Fid=12-2055 Basically any radio transmitter than can take 1/8" will work.
  19. Connectivity 1. Will my HiMD unit go faster if I use USB2.0 (or High Speed) port? No, current Hi-MD units are not capable of transfer speeds higher than 500-700KBytes per second due to the read/write head of the drive and not USB speed. 2. Can I directly connect my HiMD to my digital camera? No. Sony makes a flash card to minidisc adapter that will copy the contents of several memory media to the Hi-MD for archival purposes. More information from SonyStyle can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/456o2 2a. To my Inkjet Printer with USB port? No. (What's the point??) 3. Can I connect my HiMD to my PS2 and use that as a memory card? This has no effect with the original PS2 system. The PS2 sees nothing connected and the Hi-MD does not respond. Perhaps the new slim-line 'more capable' PS2 may work with Hi-MD. 4. Can I connect my HiMD to my Home Theater System? Yes. You can connect the line-out or headphone out to your AVR using a 1/8" to RCA cable. Usually additional A/V inputs are supplied on modern AVR's. Tape inputs/outputs can be used as well. 4a. Does it play multi-channel audio? No. 4b. Dolby Digital, DTS? No. 4c. Dolby Surround? Maybe. (Anyone know if this is the case? Can you encode PCM with Dolby Surround 'stuff'?)
  20. You cannot add trackmarks to tracks transferred to the MD from SonicStage. Can you break up the files on your PC then transfer those tracks individually? I think that would be the only way to do it.
  21. C'mon ladies and gentlemen we can do better than this! 5000 users and we can only muster $270? Time to kick it up a notch Please help feed the minidiscs...
