Good to know. Scratch them off my list of potential capture boards.

Yes. Anything recorded on a disc formatted as Hi-MD can be uploaded.

DSD, 1-bit Pulse Trains, DST lossless, oh MY! http://www.daisy-laser.com/technology/techsacd/techsacd.htm

I don't think such a thing exists The biggest joke of all is that the MPAA and RIAA will NEVER stop these protection schemes from being cracked. Given time any system will be hacked. The only way to officially stop piracy is to stop reproduction of their product entirely. Once things go analog there's no control regardless of the protection scheme.

Found this the other day, excellent article: http://www.sweetwater.com/support/summits/dB.php "Over the past few years we've brought you the news and answered hundreds of technical questions about everything from burning CD's to synchronizing MIDI to film, to tracking down ground loop hums, to buying gear on the Internet. During that time we've received hundreds of other questions that we answered privately via e-mail. But there's been one burning question through all of this that we've never really been able to get to... until now. What is the actual difference between -10 and +4 and what does it mean at a practical and technical level?"

Why stop there. All lobbies are this bad. Unfortunately you'll never stop the underlying cause of all of this, GREED.

Oh about $4000 in the past 2 years. And maybe another $1000 in the next 3 months.

I've recorded a bunch of crap off CSPAN with my NH1 in the cradle and never gotten a hum.

Entering Service Mode On A Hi-MD Player
streaml1ne replied to Christopher's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
You'd think that crap like this, or the play modes, etc would be part of the disc memory. -
You can adjust levels while recording like dex said, it's just that when you stop that recording the player goes back to AGC. So for your next recording you need to change it to manual level control again.

This is simple calculus. The more samples under the curve the better (disregarding crappy hardware) you can represent that curve. Now if you can actually hear a difference is another story. Solve both problems, 96kHz/24-bit

The ESA posted sound too http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Cassini-Huygen...85Q71Y3E_0.html

The 7509's are under $200 now from B&H Amazing how much two years makes in the price.

This place gives me something to do at work just about every day. Probably 2-3 hours solid mostly 10 minutes here and there. Adds up over the course of the workday.

I'm wary of the hold button on the NH1 main unit. The one on my G750 broke after about a year. So I'm not too confident in the one on the NH1 which seems more fragile.

This is not possible, imaging software on Unix or Windows will not make a working backup of a Hi-MD. Sony is doing something on the minidisc player itself that identifies discs as unique and is not accessible directly in Windows or Linux.

Have You Seen The Prices On Ebay?

It'd make a handy full time data drive. -
Should I Dump My Himd Recorder? Switch To Neuros?
streaml1ne replied to lkawamot's topic in Minidisc
None here, ever, on any version. After maybe 20-30 uploads, most over an hour in length in Hi-SP. -
"14 January 2005 ESA PR 03-2005. Today, after its seven-year journey through the Solar System on board the Cassini spacecraft, ESA’s Huygens probe has successfully descended through the atmosphere of Titan, Saturn’s largest moon, and safely landed on its surface." First image: http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Cassini-Huygen...CXM71Y3E_1.html I'm still waiting for a pair of eyes and a big fricken claw in one of these pictures

Entering Service Mode On A Hi-MD Player

This would probably be handy if someone were developing a 3rd party remote for these units *nudge nudge* *wink wink* -
http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7436 It's all in there.

Shamelessly ripped from Slashdot: "Understanding Audio Compression: MP3, WMA, Ogg, and More" http://sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=639

All uploads need to be done through Sonic Stage. To transfer a full Hi-MD (~90 minutes PCM) it would take about half an hour. If you recorded in Hi-SP it would be significantly faster. Then there's always the possibility of Sonic Stage trashing the upload... This might be a better option for you: http://www.edirol.com/products/info/r1.html

A headphone swap along the lines of the MD Swap would be a neat idea. You could sample different phones, preferrably burned in, well maintained units and get an idea of where yours stand or what you'd like to buy.
