  1. For some reason, this calls for a tribute... Homer: Moe I need your advice... See I've got this friend named Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabadoo. Moe: That's the worst name I've ever heard. Guy: *runs out of the bar, crying* Barney: Aye! Joey Joe Joe! ^ Audio^ ------ Welcome to the forums. The sound guy probably has a job to do and doesn't want to get caught doing that...but I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask. The worst that he or she could say is 'no', but then you might be tipping them off that you are trying to record the show. With a good set of mics and some practice, it's possible to make audience recordings that can come very close to sounding like a soundboard recording. Tape Out or Line Out should do just fine if you have the right cable(s) to go to the Line In, but for best results make sure you disable auto gain control and manually adjust the level to a setting that is not too loud or too quiet.
  2. Hi nothing, Welcome to the forums. If SonicStage is freezing, it could be because of a hardware problem. Do you have any other USB mass storage devices hooked up? Maybe there is a conflict another device. Check the device manager in the control panel to make sure that all your hardware is installed and working correctly. Reinstalling SonicStage could be a fix for the problem. Try those things, and let us know of any further developments.
  3. Just don't be surprised if you see a blue screen or two. I just did this upgrade on one of my PCs not too long ago (actually it may have been from v3.3 to v4.0) and I got a BSOD after rebooting when the installation finished. For whatever reason, this always seems to happen when I upgrade SS. Luckily when I opened SonicStage after restarting the machine again, all the tracks were in my library, and they could still be played and transferred. Of course, I did a backup before upgrading anyway.
  4. Hi orangezero, I think this should be your first step. I don't own an RH1 yet, but I've got some legacy discs that don't playback correctly and I anticipate some upload troubles with those. If the tracks do play correctly, but the upload doesn't work, you could of course record on your computer in realtime through the line out. I'm not completely sure about upload times for long tracks vs. small tracks. I know that long PCM tracks from regular Hi-MD recordings can take a while to upload. One long track, compared to ten short tracks of equal length should take roughly the same amount of time to upload, but I'd think that the small tracks could take longer since it takes a moment for the filenames to be written.
  5. Today must be a slow day at work...I've moved up to Rocketing Rabbit! Oh, and check it out...I got one of those 0.0000 times too. Greg and I must have superhuman powers. "No sheep were harmed in the making of this game." [attachmentid=1960]
  6. The best ranking I can get so far...Bobbing bobcat.
  7. Hi Fusionsound, I don't think 80 minute discs vs. 74 minute discs have anything to do with your problem, although I could be wrong...I've never owned the deck that you have. It could be that there is a problem with the optical unit in your machine. If a disc cannot properly save the information at the end of recording when the stop button is pressed (or when the disc runs out of recording time), then the 'blank disc' message may appear on the screen. The disc may not really be blank, but if the deck is unable to correctly read the TOC on the disc, then it will default to that message. Try using several different discs until you find one that works. If you can't find a working one, then your deck may not be working anymore. Could you post some more information about the problems you're having? Maybe we could offer some more insight. Oh, and here's a link to the minidisc.org page for your deck. I hope this has been some help. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MDS-JE510+S38.html
  8. Awesome. I had a hunch that would work, and it's probably been discussed a billion times already. So helpful...as always. Thanks a lot.
  9. I've got a question for anyone who knows about this. I bought the Australian version of the MZ-NHF800, so it only has an AM/FM tuner. If I get a different version of the remote (the US version), would the tuner pick up AM/FM/TV/Weather Band signals? I probably wouldn't listen to those much, but it'd be nice to have. ::goes to minidisc.org to do some research::
  10. I checked a few places and couldn't really find anything that was wood. I've seen things like plastic monitor stands/risers for desks, but those probably aren't wide enough and plastic is not what you're looking for. A search for "small wood table" didn't really bring up anything good either. Continue the search. Are there any yardsales going on where you live? Maybe you could find something second-hand like that.
  11. Proof of purchase. They ask for a copy of the receipt, but if you can proove some other way that it was purchased within a year, that might be alright. Maybe they'd let you slide if you had the origional box and all the accessories (they ship the same accessories back to you anyway if it's repaired). Good luck.
  12. Try using that disc in another player if you can find one. If you're still working off of that first disc, try using a new one...if you can find one. OK, I suppose they're not that hard to find online. Anyway if you're warranty is still valid (within a year from purchase) maybe that recorder could be fixed for cheap by going to the Sony support site. I had a + experience with that.
  13. Use the latest version of SimpleBurner to rip straight from your CDs to your favorite Atrac bitrate and enjoy. Use the latest version of SonicStage to transfer your MP3s. You MP3 collection won't sound terrible, unless you use a bitrate less than 132kbps (in my opinion), but that all depends on your ears. Have fun.
  14. This should have been multiple choice (so more than one answer can be selected). Can we make polls like that? XP, Vista, Fedora, blah blah blah...haven't used a Mac in a while.
  15. http://www.sysadminday.com Thanks Chris, Eric, & others. Without you...this place would be 404ville.
  16. Yes, use the Gallery to post some samples, or you could post a yousendit link.
  17. I don't hear distortion w/ 192kbps, but I do noticeably hear a lack of high end. I've actually had the opposite problem, and hear distortion with 256kbps when ripping from CDs, but that may have something to do with the CD-ROM drive being used.
  18. Hi twodogs. The "busy wait a moment" message should go away after a minute or so. Does the display ever get to a point where it shows that it is trying to play a track on the disc? I have some discs that were recorded with errors...the disc spins but the timer doesn't advance and the sound doesn't play. To get past that, I play the damaged discs in another unit, but that's not a good solution if you don't have a second deck. You could try putting a cleaning disc in the unit, but it might not make much of a difference. If you still have the receipt or some proof of purchase, you could send the unit to Sony to have it fixed under warranty. They'll probably replace the optical unit in the machine and then it should work OK. I hope this helps. Post again to let us know of any further developments.
  19. Mmm, I don't think so. I have no evidence to really proove that, but I just doubt that more work was put into the codecs. However, it does apears that more work was put into the hardware or software (firmware?) that does the decoding of Atrac files. Second gen units appear to be the best at playing back damaged discs. I'll post more info about this in another thread.
  20. Smashing Pumpkins b-sides & unreleased songs. There are so many. Right now though... Saturnine Apathy's Last Kiss The Ethers Tragic Sun Let Me Give the World to You Purr Snickety
  21. Norick, have him express ship that thing to you! That's rough. After paying for one, I'd have a hard time waiting for more than a few days to get it.
  22. Interesting. TOC cloning saved my butt a few times in the past with legacy MD recordings. It's a shame that we don't have recovery tools or a hack like this to recover Hi-MD recordings. Hopefully Sony will realize this and provide us with something like that in the future. Thanks for testing.
  23. I too, have seen and recorded this band. They have potential.
  24. I'd say go ahead with 4.0. The main advantage with 4.0 vs. 3.4 is additional file format support, but you're probably better off using the most up-to-date version. Hopefully there is some additional speed and reliability as well.
