    NH1 beeping

Hi bobt, Sorry to hear about your NH1 problems. I have not had this problem with my unit. That sucks though...didn't your first NH1 fall into the OCEAN? Now this...I feel bad for ya. Fellow NH1 owners, any ideas or advice?
  2. Yeah. How 'bout that. I get my Hi-MD blanks at RadioShack. Well, not just ANY radio shack...the only one that I know of in VT that has Hi-MD blanks is in Burlington, a 45 minute drive from where I live. Somewhat inconvenient, but it gives me a reason to do some other shopping...and spend more money.
  3. (admin, please move this thread if I put it in the wrong group. thanks) I just shipped my MZ-NH1 out for an exhange under warrenty yesterday, and I'm curious about the experiences other people have had with Sony's warranty service. For anyone who's never done this...when you apply for service under warranty, you can choose to either have the product exchanged or repaired. The exchange costs less than the repair ($29 vs. $84 I think). Since I chose to exchange, and the NH1 is discontinuted it looks like someone from service and support is going to contact me and say, "Sorry, we don't have another NH1 to send you. What other model do you want?" This is kind of frustrating since I would really like to have another NH1. Perhaps, if I had chose the repair option instead, I'd get one back? I alredy have an RH10, but really liked the NH1 for the remote and timestamp feature, but anyway... What warrany experiences have people had? Good? Bad? Other? Should I have kept the remote when I sent it back?
  4. I'm not sure what you're talking about with thin paper-like materials and whatnot, but if your deck is still in the warranty period (one year from date of purchase as a new item) then you can send it back to Sony for a replacement, but keep in mind that you may not get the same model back. Sony may send you a different model if they cannot exchange for the same one.
  5. I dare venture to say, yes. There will be a third generation of Hi-MD.
  6. ::sigh:: Let's see here... MZ-NH1: -won't directly play MP3s (only Atrac + atrac3plus files) -has EQ adjustments, and VPT acoustic engine (surround sound modes) -small screen, limited controls on the deck (w/o remote attached) -comes with the best damn remote Sony makes -timestamp feature for Mic/Line In recordings :^) MZ-RH10: -will directly play MP3s (still must use SonicStage to transfer) -EQ, but no surround sound modes -beautiful OLED screen and full controls on the deck -will cost less than the NH1 -NO timestamp feature for Mic/Line In recordings >:^( Eh. Get 'em both if you can. Let us know once you make a decision.

  8. Oy. First off, welcome to the forums. As for high quality Atrac3plus recording, you should always use the PCM or Hi-SP recording modes unless you are recording things like speech or dictations. Hi-LP prettymuch just doesn't cut it for high-quality music recordings. As for what model to get, well, that's for you to decide. do some research with the 'Equipment Browser' at minidisc.org and check out the Hi-MD models. Some have been discontinued, but you may be able to find a few of those on eBay or other online retailers. I'd go with an MZ-NH1, MZ-NH900, or (the model I just bought) MZ-RH10. Have fun.
  9. The 'bad news' would have much more of an impact on the company if they came right out and said it.
  10. Hi Bern, Sorry to hear about your problems. I've lost important recordings to Hi-MD too. Some good news though...if you use the newest version of SonicStage you can upload multiple times! Hopefully upgrading your software will help prevent this problem for you in the future. Good luck. -Nate
  11. Noooooooo! Damnit. Doclloyd is right, Sony should have advertised! How many more people would have gone Hi-MD vs. iPod if people knew that they could record with it. I guess if we get a new product with similar functionality it'll be OK if minidisc is dropped, right? Regardless, I won't be unloading my Hi-MD stuff right away.
  12. There is a #minidisc on EFnet. S'allrite. There's more talking here at the forums than there is there.
  13. I too, am glad to have the forums back. My thanks to Chris and all the forum admins. Keep up the good work.
  14. Hey Kpayson, I'm about to do the same thing with my defective MZ-NH1, but I'm hoping to get another NH1 back. Did Sony actually tell you that they would let you upgrade (for more $)? Apparently the MZ-NH1 is discontinued now. Did they offer a replacement NH1 to you at all?
  15. <s>We may make out better with software specifically designed for MiniDisc units. Wouldn't that be nice instead of one all encompassing online music store, uploading tool and music file player all thrown in together. Take like a Linux approach and make a small program that does only what is needed, instead of everything. Maybe I'm just a foolish optimist. The connect player looks alright, but...I'm hoping Sony's got, or is putting together, a software tool designed specifically for MiniDisc units.</s>
  16. I would also like to wish good luck to everyone down south near the hurricane. Keep fighting the good fight.
  17. Beware! The tiny little screen on the unit can easily get scratched. And of course the remote can easily get scratched up too.
  18. Not a single vote for the MZ-DH10P yet. Ha ha! (does Simpsons comic book guy voice) Worst, model, ever!
  19. Oops. I forgot the MZ-M100 and MZ-M10 Macintosh models. But are these even available yet? I'd heard mid August for their release.
  20. It's a duel to the death for all these decks! Vote for your favorite before Sony discontinues Hi-MD all together. Have fun.
  21. Yes. Someone may say I'm wrong since, if you don't have the headphones plugged in then the circuit is not complete, but turn it all the way down if you're not using it. You'll save a negligible amount of battery power.
  22. Hi rbonnefoi. Welcome to the forums. A friend of mine has the same problem with his minidisc recorder (it's a MZ-R37). He can playback discs just fine, but when he tries to record, the process seems to go alright (it records, says 'data save', etc) but then he ends up with a blank disc. Additionally, each time he tries to add something onto a disc that already has something recorded on it, it says 'blank disc'! So, you may want to try getting a MD head cleaner for your unit. Check out www.minidiscaccess.com . I've had good experiences with them to get things quick and cheap. If that doesn't solve your problems then you should get a new recorder and maybe use the one you have now as a player only. There's my 2¢. Hope it helps. Cheers.
  23. Whaaaaa??!? Hi-Md Video? Is there an announcement about Hi-MD video somewhere that I missed? :-)
  24. You're defenitly not the only one who has had problems like this. Some people think the gaps of silence are the fault of the discs. Others think it could be the players/recorders. Either way you look at it, Hi-MD is just a little bit buggy. I've know of a couple people who sent their units back to Sony under warranty and that took care of the problem. Other than that, I'd suggest storing your discs away from heat, dust, etc. and keep your recorder as still as possible while recording. Moving it around too much while recording can cause this problem too.
